This proseminar in English will introduce phenomena and methods of solid state physics. Each student is expecte to deliver a 30 min talk with subsequent discussion.

Possible topics:  crystal lattices and their determination by X-rays  lattice vibration and phonons  thermal properties (thermal expansion, thermal conductivity)  electronic properties (metals)  electronic properties (semiconductors)  semiconductor devices (diode, transistor)  magnetism and magnetic properties  superconductivity
