DHS Considers End to H-1B Extensions DHS department heads are drafting a “Buy American, Hire American” proposal that would prevent H-1B visa extensions beyond the sixyear limit. If implemented, the proposed regulations would likely stop more than 100,000 foreign workers with pending green card applications from keeping their H1B visas beyond the allowed two three-year terms, creating job opportunities for higher-skilled Americans.

Sanctuary Law Forces Sheriff to Terminate ICE Cooperation PUBLISHED: Thu, DEC 28th 2017 @ 4:15 pm EST The Orange County Sheriff’s Department this week terminated its 287(g) agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which allowed deputies to inform immigration agents about criminal aliens in custody. The move came in response to a new state law (SB 54) taking effect on January 1 that prohibits law enforcement agencies from participating in 287(g) and otherwise limits cooperation with ICE. Orange County (OC) Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and the state sheriff’s association opposed the sanctuary law, but now all sheriffs must comply.
CIS Analysis: Chain Migration Pushing Immigration Numbers to Record Levels PUBLISHED: Thu, DEC 28th 2017 @ 1:18 pm EST A new report by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) found that 1.03 million legal immigrants and illegal aliens settled in the United States in the first six months of 2016. Extrapolating based on prior patterns, the total of all of 2016 should be 1.8 million - a number that matches the prior U.S. record in 1999. The levels are driven by chain migration policies, which enable legal immigrants to bring immediate and extended family members into the U.S.

Tourists from both countries can visit the island for up to 45 days without a visa, and any children born on the island automatically receive U.S. citizenship.
DOJ: Colorado Company to Pay U.S. Workers Over $18,000 in ‘Buy American Hire American’ Settlement PUBLISHED: Tue, DEC 19th 2017 @ 2:32 pm EST The Justice Dept. announced yesterday that it settled an agreement with Crop Production Services, Inc., an agricultural company they filed a lawsuit against in September for violating the Immigration and Nationality Act by discriminating against American workers. This is the first settlement to resolve a lawsuit based on Pres. Trump’s ‘Buy American, Hire American’ executive order.

Congress must pass legislation by Dec. 22 to prevent a government shutdown.
