Abstract A half-day workshop on ‘Institutional Capacity for Knowledge Management (KM) of Transport Research Centres in Africa and Asia’ was held on 17 November 2016 jointly with a twodays knowledge exchange event on Road Asset Management. The objectives of the KM workshop were: 1. To raise awareness about knowledge management as a discipline in the core process of knowledge generation by the research centres; 2. To address issues related to the institutional capacity to manage knowledge effectively and efficiently, with a view of long-term sustainable research management; 3. To inform participants of the current on-going local KM netork projects supported by ReCAP and have participants discuss and exchange experiences in implementing KM initiatives within their institutions. A combination of presentations, group work and plenary discussions was used during the KM workshop. This report is part of the Applied Research on Rural Roads and Transport Services through Community Access Programmes in Africa and Asia programme (AFCAP2 and AsCAP)
