receive credit toward your college program. Students not in one of the listed college programs may do an independent internship, but not for credit. There are many resources for doing such an internship. Can I do an internship with my current employer? With permission of the Internship Coordinator and Program Manager, you might use a job you currently hold as the internship work assignment. You must be able to prove that additional, enhanced duties and/or knowledge will be gained during the internship experience. Credit will NOT be awarded for continuing to perform work tasks you have done in the past. Can I be a paid as an intern? The primary purpose of an Internship is to learn and gain new experience. Most internships are unpaid. If an employer offers pay, that arrangement is between the employer and you. Can I do an internship outside Frederick? You may do internships in Frederick City or County, Maryland, U.S., or foreign countries. I can't find an internship work site. Help! While the student is responsible for identifying a worksite, here are a few resources which may be helpful. FCC's Career and Transfer Center developed a Job Search site in which you may search for internship possibilities, choose to be included in employer searches, and where companies can also search for students to fill their internship positions and jobs. Got to www.frederick.edu and choose: Student Services, and Career and Transfer Center. Here you will find the link to register for the Job Search. Other resources: Frederick County Chamber of Commerce website has job listings and a business directory Volunteer Frederick has volunteer opportunities. To get in touch directly, call 301663-5214, ext. 6. Your FCC Program Manager may be able to advise you. Networking can be very helpful. Talk to friends and family and make new acquaintances in researching job opportunities. What if I'm late for work? Internships, even unpaid, are jobs. Don't be late! Employers value people who are reliable. Be responsible and call your work site supervisor if you are unavoidably late. The time you miss must be made up, in order to complete the total hours of the internship. What if I don't feel well? If you are contagious or cannot safely perform your job, call your supervisor. The time you miss must be made up, in order to complete the total hours of the internship. Is missing work like missing a class? Unlike some courses, you are NOT allowed a certain number of absences during your internship. The time you miss must be made up, in order to complete the total hours of the internship. What if I don't like the work I'm assigned? Consider all your work tasks together; don't dwell on a few undesirable tasks. If you are concerned that you are not gaining new experience, skills, and knowledge, discuss your concern with your work site supervisor or FCC Internship Advisor. Such discussion usually can get your internship on course. Download the Internship Brochure Ask your own question (e-mail the FCC Internship Program Coordinator)
