John qualified as a solicitor in 1969 and became of a partner of the firm in 1971. Although today, he concentrates on business and property he has a wide experience of most aspects of the law. He has undertaken criminal defence including murder, rape and high value theft. Civil Litigation cases include claims arising from the consequences of high value theft and the freezing of assets, professional negligence, inheritance and wills claims, building and injury claims; probate, Wills and powers of attorney. His current work comprises company and business sales, purchases and start-ups; buying, selling and the leasing (acting for landlords and tenants) of commercial property, shops factories and office for occupation or investment or pensions; development land options and section 106 agreements; employment advice, contracts and termination issues; termination, renewal and enforcement of leases including court action for rent and possession. As a lifelong competitive sailor, John has brought his experience and knowledge to the legal requirements of many clients in the marine sector including marina and boat yard operators, sailmakers, spar makers and equipment manufacturers and sailing clubs. He also deals with the personal requirements of both commercial and private clients including house purchase and sales; tenancy agreements, rent deposits and possession claims of residential lettings; leasehold extension of residential properties and freehold enfranchisement. His experience enables him to advise clients across a wide range of legal issues while working with other members of the firm in specialist areas. His sailing activities have included racing in national (winning and runner up in the ‘70s) and international championships, racing in Cowes and Cork weeks and the Three Peaks Yacht Races (1st in 2010 and 2nd in 2011). He also served in most offices of the Stokes Bay Sailing Club and on the rules committee of the International 505 dinghy. John is assisted by Gill Green.
