Johnson Flight Academy Equipment List 2017 Updated 5 March 2017
All Cadets
CAP Membership Card Athletic\gym shoes Swimming attire Civilian clothes for free time activities EIU will provide 2 sheets, towels, pillow and a blanket. You may want to bring a washcloth. Bring your own soap, shampoo and toiletries Alarm Clock. Cadets are expected to get up time without the assistance of staff (phone is ok) Notebook and pen/pencil Canteen (Required) Sunglasses (Highly recommended). These must be of conservative nature, per regulations. Pilot/Student logbook (for power) Some spending money (no more than $35, small bills/coins for vending machine, snacks at movie) SUN BLOCK SPF 15 or higher (Required) Please use common sense when packing. Weather can range from the low 50’s to the high 90’s. Academy T-Shirts, shorts, and hat will be issued to each cadet and will be the uniform of the week (academy uniform) for power and glider cadets. Cadets will not wear flight suits or jump suits at the Johnson Flight Academy. Balloon cadets will wear BDU’s. The academy uniform will be worn with gym shoes. All other grooming standards will be adhered to, per CAPM 39-1.
Power Encampment Cadets will wear the academy uniform IF YOU PLAN TO SOLO YOU MUST BRING A CURRENT FAA THIRD CLASS MEDICAL/STUDENT PILOT CERTIFICATE. It is highly recommended to get a FAA their Class Medical/Student Pilot Certificate if you plan on continuing flight training once you return home or have already received flight training prior to JFA. If you not plan to solo then this item is not necessary. An FAA medical certificate may only be obtained by a FAA Aviation Medical Examiner. Make sure you receive the yellow Student Pilot Certificate. If you do not know where to find the nearest FAA medical examiner, ask your local flight school at the local airport. The FAA FSDO will issue a student pilot certificate at no cost (you will need an appointment a head of time so be sure and call ahead). There is NO opportunity to obtain a medical while at JFA. Glider Encampment Cadets will wear the academy uniform IF YOU PLAN TO SOLO YOU MUST BRING A STUDENT PILOT CERTIFICATE. This can be obtained at the FAA FSDO, any designated pilot examiner and some medical examiners. This applies to Advanced Glider. Balloon Encampment BDU Uniform with long sleeves (Mandatory!) One pair of leather work gloves
Note: All CAP Grooming Standards will be enforced. Cadets and Senior Members who do not conform to CAP Grooming Standards at check-in, will not be allowed to join JFA.
Cadets (except balloon) do NOT need BDUs or Blues uniforms this year!
