The adhcsion of biological panicles (bacteria. red blood ceUs. and liposomes) on glass surfaces has been studied under well-defined hydrodynamic conditions with ar.

apparatus. ,::ombined v.'ith either microscopic image analyzing or evancscent wave light scattering. Many kinetic aspects of cell adhesion were examined. with this technique. including initial adhesion rates of the ceIIs; characteristic time for the adhering ceUs

escape; surface

area blocked per adhering cell; average lifetime of a cell rcmaining on a surface ullder different shear rates; strengthening of adhesion with time. Sorne key parameters affccting adhesion kinetics such as intensity of the flow. salt concentration. pH of the medium, cell shape, size and flexibility were evaiuated.
