ABSTRACT
The adhcsion of biological panicles (bacteria. red blood ceUs. and liposomes) on glass surfaces has been studied under well-defined hydrodynamic conditions with ar.

apparatus. ,::ombined v.'ith either microscopic image analyzing or evancscent wave light scattering. Many kinetic aspects of cell adhesion were examined. with this technique. including initial adhesion rates of the ceIIs; characteristic time for the adhering ceUs

escape; surface
area blocked per adhering cell; average lifetime of a cell rcmaining on a surface ullder different shear rates; strengthening of adhesion with time. Sorne key parameters affccting adhesion kinetics such as intensity of the flow. salt concentration. pH of the medium, cell shape, size and flexibility were evaiuated. Kinetics of specific adhesion of red blood cells through antigen-antibody bonds wcre also investigated. Experimental results were compare
