Advisory Board Management education is not a standalone activity. With changing workplace culture and business innovations, management education needs constant update based on feedback from corporate leaders so that what is taught in the campus is in sync with what is demanded by the industry. KSOM therefore has an advisory board consisting of eminent corporate leaders including Managing Directors, Group Presidents, CEOs and Vice Presidents of leading Indian and overseas MNCs, and academicians that meets regularly to strategize on the institution’s thrust areas and fine tune its pedagogical endeavours.

Assessment and Mentoring In order to ensure that students have someone to turn to for expert advice, KSOM has implemented a mentoring programme across all its courses. Every student is assigned a faculty mentor who is primarily responsible for the academic well-being of the student. The mentor-mentee interactions are tracked every month by the University to ensure that the programme is rigorously implemented. The topic of discussion can range from mentee’s attendance status to specific areas of difficulty in a particular subject. However, as the nature of interaction is mostly informal, away from the classrooms and any other formal academic set up, in most cases mentors also don the role of an advisor taking particular interest in the overall wellbeing of the student in the campus.

Innovation seminar aims to bring new ways of reaching out to consumers by turning conventional business wisdom on its head. It celebrates the spirit of entrepreneurship. Knowledge seminar brings holistic learning and discuss topics ranging from emotional intelligence to work-life balance.

KSOM conducts regular MDPs for both young and middle level executives for various private and public sector organizations. While such programmes disseminate management education among a far wider and diverse audience, they also enrich KSOM through the rich experience and exposure such an audience brings on board. These programmes are designed carefully in discussion with the senior management of companies to cater to the specific needs of their respective organizations. They are a combination of classroom and activity based learning, including experiential learning conducted through various outdoor games. KSOM’s MDPs cover a wide range of topics such as Financial Management, Strategic and General Management, Business Communication, Corporate Ethics, Team Building and Competency Development, including niche areas such as Real Estate Marketing.

Seminars

In the last year alone, more than 40 illustratious speakers from various fields delivered talks in the campus.

Dr. Aditya Puri MD, HDFC Bank

Corporate seminar provides budding managers a unique experience to interact closely with senior corporate leaders and learn the nuances of management first hand.

Assessement center helps students identify their weak areas and work on strengthening them. Each student is carefully tested on various areas – it includes both soft and academic skills – and then scored. Each scorecard is shared with the respective mentor so that the student can get focused attention of the mentor.

To foster multi-dimensional learning that goes beyond the traditional classroom based pedagogy, KSOM regularly organizes various seminar talks for the students and faculty members.

Management Development Programme (MDP)

Mr. Rajeev Dubey, National President, NHRDN and Group HR & Executive Board Member, Mahindra & Mahindra

Faculty Development Programme (FDP) The FDP programme leverages KSOM’s years of experience in using case studies while teaching and carrying out research in the various areas of management. Writing research papers is another focus area of our FDPs.

Doctoral Programme The Doctoral Programme aims to pursue contemporary problems in management that requires critical and out-of-the-box thinking. The programme awards Ph.D. in Management from the KIIT University. Since 2005, the institute has been enrolling scholars from India and abroad for their doctoral research in management. Participants undergo a rigorous selection process including multi-disciplinary interviews before being selected for the programme.

Management Research To find itself a place among the institutes that go beyond existing management knowledge and instead produce new knowledge through cutting-edge research, the school is honoured to have Prof. Rajen K. Gupta, a distinguished professor from the MDI, Gurgaon, as its "Research Advisor". Prof. Gupta is a B.Tech from IIT, Kanpur and a Fellow from IIM Ahmedabad. The school has a robust Research infrastructure, including publishing a bi-annual research journal and organizing several research workshops and conventions. A CoE in Management Research under the aegis of Prof. Gupta is also envisaged. Faculty members regularly publish research articles in reputed national and international journals. Several books have also been written by KSOM faculty members.

Parikalpana – the in-house Journal KSOM’s in-house journal encourages faculty members and students to go beyond the traditional focus areas of management and explore innovative and creative ways of carrying out business. The journal is a peer-reviewed biannual publication that has recently been re-launched with a contemporary look. Contents of the journal include case studies, articles (research or otherwise) and high-quality project work by students or faculty members.

Corporate Tie-ups Dassault Systemes - worldwide PLM leader and software innovator has established an one-of-its-kind PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) Lab and Centre of Excellence at the institute. KSOM also has tie-ups with some of the leaders in the corporate world, such as Mahindra Satyam, SAP, SHRM India, NHRD Network, Axis Bank & Siemens for carrying out cutting-edge research work and skill development.

Student Engagement In addition to the various academic activities directly conducted by the institute, KSOM actively encourages and promotes student interest groups so that they get a first-hand experience of what management is all about. Like academic activities, student activities too are spread out throughout the year and include welcome parties, cultural shows, quizzes and other business competitions, voluntary work, self-assignments and projects, and workshops.

Kolosseum Kolosseum, KSOM’s annual mega inter B-school festival, is the high point of all student activities. The three-day extravaganza witnesses a bevy of competitions including B-plans, Advertising, Best Manager, Gaming, Choreography, Fashion and many more assorted management games along with Rock shows, Fashion Parade and Star Night. However, in addition to being a platform for students to unwind, Kolosseum provides an opportunity to the students to run an event from start to finish, picking up several aspects of management along the way.

Student Clubs Student Clubs hone the management skills of the students. It brings together several aspects of management such as team work, time and event management, inter-group coordination, external and internal marketing, financial management and many more. KSOM students have formed several clubs, including Finance, Marketing, HR, Systems, Entrepreneurship Alumni and Cultural clubs. The MBA Curriculum consists of three different components - Core courses, Elective courses and Field experience in the form of study tour and On-Job training (OJT). The core and elective courses are delivered over 4 semesters. There are 18 core courses equivalent to 54 credits as well as 16 elective courses equivalent to 32 credits covering six functional areas. The core courses in the first year establish a strong foundation in major functions of business viz. business environment, marketing, finance, human resources, communication, IT, operations and strategy. This input helps students acquire basic analytical, quantitative and communication skills and build confidence to undertake advanced courses during the second year. On-Job Training (OJT) of 8 credits, scheduled at the end of the first year not only help students apply their learning from the core courses, but also exposes them to the real-life challenges of doing business. The OJT experience significantly supplements the classroom pedagogy.

Each of the clubs are overseen by a faculty-in-charge and headed by a student coordinator. Members include both first year and second year students. Each club prepares its annual event plan and gets it approved from the faculty-in-charge. Events/activities conducted by the clubs include quizzes, discussions and debates, wall magazines and e-magazines, shows and workshops, management games and guest talks. The Cultural club publishes KSOM’s quarterly e-magazine “Pravah” containing contributions from faculty and student members. Similarly the Alumni club is instrumental in organizing annual Alumni meet in the campus. The sports club is busy throughout the year organizing several inter and intra-institute matches of cricket, table tennis, football.

Other Student Activities and Interest Groups In addition to clubs that are primarily related to academics, students at KSOM have also formed several Special Interest Groups(SIGs) for creative pursuits and activities such as social and community work. Blood 24x7 is one such initiative founded by KSOM students in the year 2010. The group has been instrumental in not just creating awareness about blood donation through meeting and street plays but also has organized blood donation camps. The students’ NSS (National Service Scheme) wing at KSOM has taken part in several social works such as planting trees and conducting PDS and hygiene surveys in the rural areas nearby. It was started at KSOM during the Youth Week (January 12-19, 2011) to usher the students on the path of social service and community development.

The faculty and staff at KSOM are committed to nurture the young business leaders of tomorrow, inculcating in them greater sensitivity to workplace and ability to compete in the emerging era of knowledge economy. However, while enhancing the competencies of our students, we keep reminding them their societal responsibilities and the importance of balancing social and economic interests. This, we believe, is going to be important in improving the relevance of management education in the society. To make this happen, we try to address all critical issues related to people, process, and technology in our school. At another level, we are also continuously working to strengthen our linkages with the industry and expand academic cooperation with various national and international institutions. To sum it up, KSOM has been relentlessly pursuing the cause of Academic Excellence and has set lofty goals for itself, which, looking at our legacy, we are sure to achieve. The quest for excellence continues.
