Hi Animalia, mohon bantuan untuk sebarkan informasi ini kepada yang membutuhkan ya :) Program sterilisasi rutin AFJ bulan Februari 2015 akan diadakan pada hari Kamis, 30 April 2015. Bagaimana cara mendaftar dalam program ini ? Silakan mendaftar dengan cara menelpon nomor berikut (harus dengan telepon) 0274-516664 dan hanya akan dilayani pada saat jam kerja (jam 08.00 – 17.00). Pendaftaran paling lambat adalah tertanggal H-1 dari tanggal yang telah ditetapkan. Important (penting)! Satwa harus dalam keadaan sehat dan dipuasakan dulu 6 jam sebelum tindakan operasi steril. Kami merekomendasikan untuk tidak melakukan vaksin dan steril bersamaan, satwa yang baru saja di vaksin / satwa yang ingin disteril terlebih dahulu kemudian divaksin harap diberi rentang kurang lebih 1 bulan demi kesehatan dan daya tahan tubuh satwa tersebut. Setelah Anda mendaftar, akan diinformasikan jam dan tempat pelaksanaan. Jika kuota sudah terlampaui saat Anda mendaftar, akan diikutkan di jadwal sterilisasi berikutnya (biasanya keesokan harinya) Untuk kucing dan kelinci: Karena keterbatasan kandang untuk pra dan perawatan paska tindakan, harap membawa kandang / box /transport kennel sendiri (jika ada). Jangan lupa tempelkan kertas pada kandang / box Anda dengan keterangan: Nama Anda/Alamat/Nama Satwa/Jenis Satwa/Jenis Kelamin/Usia Satwa./jam mulai puasa untuk menghindari kecelakaan seperti tertukar satwa ataupun peralatannya. Setelah menyelesaikan administrasi, kucing/kelinci bisa dititipkan dulu dan dijemput kembali setelah tindakan. Bagi yang ingin menunggui sterilisasi satwanya, bisa datang mulai jam 2 siang. Untuk anjing: Anjing harap mengenakan harness/leash dan harus didampingi. Waktu datang anjing silakan disesuaikan dan tepat waktu sesuai dengan kesepakatan melalui SMS. Anjing yang kurang bersahabat harap mengenakan muzzle untuk menghindari hal / kecelakaan yang tidak diinginkan Nah… kalau yang ini buat relawan AFJ: Bantuan yg bisa dikerjakan relawan saat hari H: Pra tindakan: membantu membersihkan dan menyiapkan kandang, membersihkan kamar/meja operasi/area tindakan, menyiapkan buku catatan, handling satwa, menjemput satwa (jika diperlukan), dll. Saat tindakan dan paska tindakan: membuat dokumentasi, handling, membuat catatan, monitoring dan menjaga satwa paska tindakan, mengganti alas tidur satwa saat diperlukan, mengantar kembali satwa (jika diperlukan), membersihkan kandang dan meja/kamar operasi/area sekitar kamar operasi paska tindakan, mengantar kembali satwa, dll. Diharapkan kerjasamanya untuk menjaga ketenangan dan kebersihan saat operasi berlangsung ya ! Terima kasih dan sampai jumpa :)

Ulet Bulu masih perlu dibawa kembali ke Klinik Hewan Jogja untuk kontrol dan rontgen ulang tgl 8 April 2015 mendatang, untuk melihat perkembangan kondisinya selepas operasi. Akan butuh waktu bagi Bulu untuk sembuh, untungnya dia punya seseorang seperti Nathalia yang mendampingi dan berusaha membantu saat orang yangs eharusnya merawat Bulu justru tak peduli lagi. Kami juga bahagia masih ada individu-individu seperti KAMU yang peduli; donasi yang diberikan untuk bantuan bagi Ulet Bulu sudah bisa membayar ¼ dari total biaya operasi + pengobatan + rawat inap.

It was like a small party with all the kids who came to welcome Ulet Bulu back! Ulet Bulu will need to be taken back to Klinik Hewan Jogja on April 8, 2015 for evaluation and another x-ray to check on the progress of his surgery. It will take some time for Ulet Bulu to recover completely and we are glad that he has a caring person like Nathalia who stood by him and made effort to help him when the one who supposed to be responsible in taking care of Ulet Bulu walked away. It is also because of YOU who give a helping hand; donation received has covered almost ¼ of the total expenses.

The legendary dancer, Mas Didik Nini Thowok completed the happy adoption day with his presence, Jack Sparrow instantly signed up to be his number one fan since that very day!

It’s also a good way for families spending healthy quality time together. It was great, however we feel a bit concerned seeing so many trashes were left on the street. Oh c’mon people, we can do better than that! What’s the point of enjoying fresh air, loving animals, but causing other pollution on the street by littering? Remember, we live in this ONLY ONE EARTH, Human-animals-environment are interconnected with one another, let’s pledge to respect and care for one another, shall we?

When my children started to ask if we could buy a dog I found it hard to explain to them that owning a dog as a pet is a responsibility that requires some education, training and commitment. It is easy to buy a pet but caring for an animal properly over many years of its life is often overlooked. Of course the kids didn’t fully understand why they couldn’t simply buy a dog off the shelf like a tin of beans.

Scrool for English Version Ulet Bulu, saya namakan begitu karena dia seperti bulu-bulu jalan saking gemuknya,dia puppy kepunyaan tetangga rumah. Sering banget main ke rumah. Sabtu pagi, 1 Maret 2015, Ulet Bulu dilaporkan anak tetangga tertabrak motor, kulihat dua kaki belakangnya tidak bisa menopang,dan beberapa lecet di paha dalam.Kata mereka Ulet Bulu mengalami kecelakaan tanggal 28 Februari 2015. Siangnya saya menelpon dokter hewan terdekat untuk datang mengecek kondisi Ulet Bulu, sementara hanya bisa dikasih obat pereda nyeri dan vitamin karena lokasi kami di pelosok Klaten dan jauh dari klinik. Ulet Bulu diduga mengalami patah tulang. Si pemilik tidak terlihat mau ikut mengobati, sekedar diajari meminumkan obat juga tidak mau. Ternyata dia tidak mau lagi mengurus Ulet Bulu karena sudah cacat, dan malahan mbak yang membantu di rumahku disuruh mengambil Ulet Bulu. Saya sempat kebingungan karena saat ini saya sedang merawat Pakde yang sakit, selain merawat anak saya dan anjing-anjing saya di rumah, lagipula saya tidak memiliki kendaraan untuk membawa Ulet Bulu ke Jogja. Akhinya, atas bantuan AFJ, Ulet Bulu bisa dibawa ke Klinik Hewan Jogja (KHJ) untuk mendapat penanganan lebih baik. Setelah dirontgen, terlihat ada patahan di kaki kanan yang membelah tulang paha,dan retak di kaki kiri dekat persendian lutut. Siang tanggal 8 Maret, operasi sudah dilakukan di KHJ ditangani drh. Agung. Ternyata callus tulang sudah terbentuk dan tidak bisa dipasang pen, tapi dipasang kawat penguat.Saat ini Ulet Bulu masih dirawat inap di KHJ sampai kondisinya stabil dan bisa dirawat jalan di rumah saya. Drh. Agung dan KHJ memberikan kelonggaran dan keringanan pembayaran, namun masih terasa sangat berat bagi saya untuk dapat melunasinya sendiri. The question kept coming from my 3 young kids “Daddy can we buy a dog”. How was I going to teach my kids about animals in general and for them to learn more about caring for animals longer term? In Jogja there are very limited opportunities for children to gain hands on experience and contact with animals. Fortunately a friend who volunteers at AFJ suggested that the kids could learn about animals by visiting the animal sanctuary. Naturally I followed up on the suggestion. The kids keen as mustard to ‘start off’ by learning how to walk and handle some of the rescued dogs at AFJ sanctuary. On our first visit both the kids and dogs were very excited about meeting. However, the kids were a bit scared as were some of the dogs at AFJ on their first encounter. They simply didn’t know how to react to each other. The staff and volunteers at AFJ were relaxed and supportive: showing the children how to walk the dogs in a controlled way and interact with them. It took a bit of time for the three young adventurers to gain confidence and learn how to handle the dogs without panicking and shouting, causing the dogs stress. Many of the dogs weren’t used to being with young children but both the kids and dogs soon got over that hurdle.

Ulet Bulu belonged to my neighbour. Ulet Bulu often comes to our house to play and eat. On Saturday morning, March 1st 2015, some children reported that Ulet Bulu’d been hit by a motorcycle. I saw both of his back leg couldn’t support his body and there’re several blisters in his inner thigh. They said that the accident happened on 28th February 2015. In my neighbourhood, many people have dogs as pets but they just let the dogs roam around the neighbour. They rarely feed their dogs. So it’s almost impossible to see them bringing their dogs to vet when their dogs are ill! The children in my neighbourhood often come to me for help if their dogs are ill. At noon, that Saturday, I called the nearest Vet in my place to come and check Ulet Bulu’s condition. He gave Ulet Bulu analgesic and vitamins because our place is located in a quite remote area in Klaten and far away from animal clinic. He diagnosed that there’s some bone fractures, but there was nothing else he could do because Ulet Bulu would need further treatment. The ‘owner’ didn’t care at all about Ulet Bulu’s condition. Not even willing to be taught how to gave the medicine to this poor puppy. In fact, they don’t want to take care of him anymore because now Ulet Bulu’s handicapped! They ‘gave away’ Ulet Bulu to our housemaid who loves dogs but however she’s not capable of caring for one. I was so confused because right now I’m taking care of my sick uncle who needs intensive care, my daughter, and the dogs at my house, beside the limited time, I also don’t have vehicle to take Ulet Bulu to Jogja for further treatment.

The kids enjoy the experience as much as the dogs do when they set off on their walks. What is clear to me is the children have really benefited from being close to animals and nature during their many walks by the riverside under the shade of tall bamboos and trees. Walking the dogs at AFJ offers many benefits: Healthy outdoors activity, learning to care for animals and about compassion for living creatures we share our world with. We have all seen children and adults react badly to animals. Chasing them with sticks or throwing stones at them. The reason could be that people are scared and lack the experience required to relate to animals if they have had no contact with them.
Finally, AFJ helped us to take Ulet Bulu to Klinik Hewan Jogja (KHJ) to get a better treatment. The x-ray result showed that there were fractures on the right leg that cleave the thigh bone and also at the left leg near to its joint. At noon on 8 of March, a surgery to fix the broken bone was conducted by Vet Agung at KHJ. The plan was to perform internal fixation utilizing plates. However, he found out that the bone callus was already formed, so the option left was to fix the bone with wire. Now, Ulet Bulu is still getting an inpatient care at KHJ until he’s stable and can be taken care at my house. Vet Agung and KHJ gave us a lenience and relief payment, but still it’s hard for me to pay it off by myself. So I’m asking for your generosity to help me out for the surgery and medical expenses for Ulet Bulu. I will take care of Ulet Bulu at my home during his recovery period. When we first walked the dogs it was a bit chaotic as neither the kids nor the dogs knew how to react to each other. Now they are like old friends and simply enjoy the pleasure of river side walks chatting away and laughing playfully. The kids know all the dogs by name and understand much more about how to handle the characters of each of the dogs they take for walks. AFJ now has 3 young volunteer dog walkers which is providing great pleasure to the children and giving much needed exercise and attention to the dogs that have yet to be adopted. It seems that the children were able to help AFJ by socializing the dogs that were not very used to children too so now they can be adopted by families that have children.

We’re still trying to get permission from the grandmas to spay and neuter their cats. There are tens of cats already, and they can multiply very quickly, causing overpopulation at the grandmas’ house.
