17. Statement of how the programme has been informed by the relevant subject benchmark statement(s)/professional, statutory and regulatory body guidelines The subject has been informed by analogy of the subject benchmark statement, by the Framework for Qualifications in Higher Education. Even though the subject benchmark statement for law only applies to undergraduate programmes, it has been taken as a point of departure for M-Level work, as it attempts to capture ‘graduateness’ at the end of an undergraduate programme. The abilities and skills prescribed in the subject benchmark statement for Law have been adapted to suit postgraduate studies. Insofar as it was possible, the benchmark statement was used to supplement the M-Level descriptors. In the absence of a benchmark statement for Law, the programme has been informed to a large extent by the M-Level descriptors of the Framework for Qualifications in higher Education. At M-Level the analytical skills of graduates should be developed in relation to judging and evaluating research, assessing the merits of competing theories and explanations, as in synthesising and applying theoretical and empirical arguments in the resolution of contemporary problems. Their ability to reflect upon their own accumulation of knowledge and apply it to complex legal situations is a critical feature of study at this level. 18. In cases of joint honours programmes please provide a rationale for the particular subject combination, either educational or academic N/A

Are students permitted to take a substitute module, as per regulation A3? No Are there are any exceptions to the regulations regarding credits, progression or award requirements? (where relevant the information should also differentiate the particular requirements of pathways within a programme or nested/exit awards) N/A Other relevant information to explain the programme structure Please note that new students enrolling on the information provided on this section of the PAF will have these regulations stipulated throughout their programme of study. The only exception to this will be if there are changes made by Professional, Regulatory or Statutory Bodies that are noted to this programme. *. For each Pathway, students need to choose to take 40 credits from either the dissertation or the Research Modules or Practice modules specified in the above table except for the Intellectual Property and Information Law pathway which only has the dissertation option. To complete a pathway and gain that award students must complete 120 credits from modules specific to that pathway. Any remaining credits that may be required can be taken from modules on the general list or from other pathway modules if available. The basic requirement for admission to the LLM programme is a recognised first degree in law (or a degree with at least 70% law content) of at least high upper second class honours standard or an equivalent overseas qualification. Exceptionally we may consider candidates who are able to demonstrate comparable academic level through other graduate studies or who are able to demonstrate that they are suitable candidates for the LLM programme through work or experience. In the case of applicants who wish to enrol for the LLM in International Tax, we will also consider candidates who (i) hold a recognised first degree in ANY discipline of at least high upper second class honours standard or an equivalent overseas qualification (with a preference for degrees in accounting or other tax-related fields) and (ii) have at least 12 months’ work experience in the Tax sector. Candidates fulfilling these two requirements will not be required to hold a first degree in law (or a degree with at least 70% law content) as would otherwise be required. Candidates admitted to the LLM programme on this basis must enrol for the specialist LLM in International Tax and will be obliged to select modules offered under this specialist LLM only.
