I can’t say enough of the wealth of knowledge that I have gained through the show and colocated conferences. For our business, the event is an excellent shop window for both China and the wider Asia-Pacific markets because we have good products and great distributors. We greatly appreciated the hospitality – not having to wait in a long line for badges and access to the lounge made our trip more efficient. In China, the hardest thing is identifying good factories. Trading companies often represent that they are factories and it’s frustrating when you find that they are in fact not. It was easy to identify real suppliers at the show, and we hope to find more of them in 2016. We recently set up our sourcing office in Hong-Kong and will quickly ramp up direct purchases in China. China is already a large supplier of our product but this product is not under our direct control or coordination. We will keep an eye on lower labor cost countries such as Vietnam, but we expect the bulk of our import to be from China for the next 3 years.

The most interesting for us to meet local manufacturers directly, and not only brokers and trade agents. Just before the show, the IPIS conference was a great way to get to know key people in a more friendly/controlled environment. For the Spanish market, the demand for cat products is very high and it is one of our points of focus. We were pleased to find a dedicated section for cat products at the show, along with other dedicated sections for small pets, private labels, etc. China is a big, big part of our international purchasing plans. This was our first show and our first buying experience. We have already bought a container and are looking to buy soon from one of 2-3 manufacturers.
