Letter to the Editor –The Millerton News, The Lakeville Journal With profound appreciation the Board of Directors of the North East Community Center has accepted the resignation of Jenny Hansell, NECC’s long serving Executive Director. In early February she will become the President of the Berkshire Natural Resources Council located in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The NECC Board is grateful for Jenny’s leadership and vision that have engendered private and public support for expanding NECC’s programs over the last 17 years. She leaves the NECC in a very strong position to continue to offer and grow needed services to our community. As Executive Director Jenny has shaped the growth of NECC from a small agency with one employee to a significant social services resource for northeastern Dutchess County. NECC’s programs, supported by over a million dollars in government and foundation grants and generous individual contributions, have expanded to include an acclaimed after school program for the Webutuck School District; a Teen Jobs effort which offers work experience to area teens; a summer lunch program for all children; senior exercise and toddler mornings at the center; income tax preparation assistance; a new transportation program equipped with a handicapped access van; and the Millerton Farmer’s Market. Jenny’s approach has always been, “How can NECC help the community?” As Jenny moves with her family to Massachusetts the Board of Directors will appoint an experienced Interim Executive Director to provide transition leadership to the staff whose hard work makes the NECC programs a success. A search for a permanent Executive Director has also been initiated. The Board of Directors wishes Jenny and her family great success in the new adventures ahead and looks forward as well to exciting new initiatives at NECC. A celebratory event honoring Jenny and her many accomplishments will be held early in 2018. Christine Bates Chairman of the Board of Directors
