Magnolia ice cream house Marino-7 Manila, Philippines

Magnolia Ice Cream House was THE ice cream parlor in the 70s. Today, it is but a shadow of its old self. On my first visit, I was excited by the exterior's subtle references to an ice cream cone. But was disappointed that the ice cream flavours are fewer than the old Magnolia, and its concoctions are quite few and uninspired. Serves meals, pizza, sandwiches as well. OK for after dinner ice cream with the family. Lots of room to innovate with the menu. Wake up, Magnolia !! Value Atmosphere

Big change from the old-style Magnolia Mark H Potton, United Kingdom

We were excited to learn that the Magnolia ice-cream parlour was going to rise phoenix-like from the the ashes of the old factory and parlour site. My wife spoke affectionately of her time as a girl when a trip to Magnolia to sample their menu of sundaes and dishes such as 'Rocky Road' and 'Bert and Ernie' would fill her with excitement. Of course, time has gone by and now the parlour is part of a large Robinsons Mall and Condo site.

The new parlour is stylish, equal part retro-design and modern, clean and funky seating and images. The menu is a mix of salads, sandwiches, snacks and main meals and on the flip-side is the selection of ice-cream based dishes. Right from the start we and our waiter agreed that this new Magnolia wasn't like the old one, gone are 'rocky road' and the other classics, peach-melba and banana split are still there. Our choice was a mango surprise with mango/vanilla/ube ice cream. The mango wasn't sweet but sour and the mango ice-cream tasted of nothing! The ube ice cream was better. All-in-all it was just OK. We sloe ordered a chocolate sundae, which is a single scoop with cream and a cherry on top! Again the ice-cream was just OK. The menus are very basic, a picture and a name per dish, if the waiter/tress doesn't explain the options then you're left to decide on your own. A better design with more information would make choosing much easier and waste less time. On further investigation we learned that the new parlour is a franchise. Such as shame they have lost some of the great things that made the Magnolia parlour such an iconic Manila destination, the changes and modernizations haven't worked. They could have ensured there were more memories brought back when visiting this new version. It was busy, lots of customers, however we wondered if any of them felt as we did - overall we left feeling disappointed. Will we be back - to the Robinson's Mall - yes, to Magnolia ice cream parlour - no. Value Atmosphere

Nostalgic Ice Cream Taste, Crappy Service Manilamunch Makati, Philippines

We ordered the Banana Split and Butternut. Thirty minutes later, our orders left unserved. I followed up only to be told -- SARCASTICALLY -by the waiter/manager that they FORGOT to relay our orders to the counter. They didn't even give us water to pass the time. Their service totally sucks. It's a shame because Magnolia was my childhood ice cream of choice. Value Atmosphere

Delicious Ice Cream Phara0h Manila, Philippines

Have you had a banana split lately? I shared one with my wife in Magnolia Flavors in Robinson's and it was delicious! My young daughters ordered crepe parfait and strawberry parfaits. It was fun dipping into each others ice cream. They were all delicious! It brings back memories of the old Magnolia House along Aurora Blvd. We did not have to wait long for our orders to come although the restaurant is overflowing with customers. My daughter says we should go back and try other items on the menu. We definitely will. I was so excited to find out that the Magnolia house was opening it's doors again. Brings back my childhood days. When I first same the restaurant I was happy and excited to have my favorite Lover's Delight or Black and White. It was also interesting that they were also selling none ice cream food items such as pasta and sandwiches. Upon looking at the menu we noticed that nothing was below Php200 including the ice cream sundaes. The menu was very limited. Conclusion: If you want to go down memory lane while enjoying your ice cream this is the place to be. But if you want to have lunch or dinner the go somewhere and come back for dessert.
