5. Objetivos de aprendizagem (conhecimentos, aptidões e competências a desenvolver pelos estudantes)

Pretende-se que os alunos:  desenvolvam um espírito reflexivo e crítico sobre e a partir de temas e autores fundamentais nos estudos de comunicação;  compreendam a centralidade dos media na produção cultural;  adquiram uma compreensão extensiva da multiplicidade de perspetivas existentes no que se refere à interação entre os media, a sociedade e a cultura. sejam capazes de desenvolver uma revisão crítica de literatura sobre um tema situado na interseção dos media, da sociedade e da cultura.

Learning outcomes of the curricular unit

It is intended that students:  develop skills of critical thinking on topics central to communication studies;

 understand the centrality of the media in cultural production;  acquire an extensive understanding of multiple perspectives regarding the interaction between media, society and culture; develop skills that will enable them to person a critical literature review on a topic dealing with the intersection between media, society and culture.

7. Metodologia de ensino (avaliação incluída)

As aulas serão teórico-práticas. Os alunos serão incentivados a discutir textos cujas leituras serão recomendadas ao longo do semestre e deverão produzir uma recensão crítica de uma obra que aborde a relação dos media com a cultura, a democracia ou a tecnologia. A avaliação terá por base os seguintes elementos:  Recensão crítica de um artigo científico (3 pages, 1500 palavras) – 45%  Take home – 45%  Participação nas aulas – 10% Qualquer evidência de plágio será punida com a atribuição de zero ao elemento de avaliação que tenha utilizado indevidamente textos de terceiros.

Teaching methodologies (including evaluation)

Classes will be theoretical/practical. During the seminar students will be encouraged to discuss texts that shall be recommended throughout the semester and shall produce a critical review of a text that addresses the relationships between the media and culture, democracy or technology. Evaluation will be based on the following elements:  Critical review of an article (3 pages, 1500 words) - 45%  Take home - 45%  In-class particip\ation – 20% Any evidence of plagiarism is a disciplinary offense and will result in a penalty. A mark of zero (0) will be awarded for the assignment.
