ACustodyBattle in EMinor lfyonmissed the quirky Chinese import The Piano in a Factory when it premiered at fast year's Miami International Film Festival, you'll have another chance at 7 p.m. Tuesday when it screens at the Aventura Arts & Cul tural Center (3385 NE 188th St., Aventura). With a divorce looming from his estranged wife, a street musician tries to construct a piano from sc ratch so that his mu sically in clined daughter will stay with him instead of her mother. It's a cockeyed scheme, at tempted alongside a ragtag cabal of factory worker &;iends who's e diversionary subplots are just as interesting as the main story line. Director Zhang Meng is a restless aesthete. creating gorgeous, painterly compositions only to track away from them in unpredict Rble directions. The Piano in a Factory is an ex plosion of color, movement, and sound whose infectious soundtrac k combines clas sical and rock music, Russian folk ballads, children's tunes, and old Nintendo music. "The vilrious issuE'S that Meng explores divorce, the challenges presented to the working class during the indnstr;. ::l1ization of China in the '90s, the influence of Western culture - are all relevant issues that w ill reso nate with Western audiences," says local film scholar Shelly Isaacs, who w il! p resent the film. POI' Por GISEL-\ SALOMON I Associs ted Press - Hace 16 horas
