Michael A Foy qualified in 1977 Southampton University and went on to do Orthopaedic Training with the Royal Air Force in Nottingham. He has been a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon since 1989 initially at PA(H) RAF Wroughton and since August 1993 at Princess Margaret (now Great Western) Hospital. He left the Great Western Hospital in December 2012 but still holds an honorary Consultant contract there and will continue to carry out sessional work (including spinal surgery) on an ad hoc basis. He runs a private patient practice and sees his patients at the Ridgeway Hospital in Wroughton. He also sees NHS patients (via the Free Choice Network (FCN) scheme) at the Ridgeway Hospital. Michael also runs a medico-legal practice and sees his medico-legal clients at both his Marlborough and 10 Harley Street rooms. His main area of specialisation is in spinal surgery with general orthopaedics (hip and knee). Please visit the procedures and practices page for more details. Michael is the author of various papers and presentations on back pain and trauma. Extensive medico-legal practice (negligence and personal injury). Author/Co-Editor of standard text in medicolegal practice “Medicolegal Reporting in Orthopaedic Trauma” now in its fourth edition published in October 2010. Member of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons (BASS) and the European Society of Spinal Surgeons (EuroSpine.) Chairman of the Medico-Legal Committee of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA). Member of the Professional Practice Committee of the BOA. Member of editorial boards of the Journal of Trauma and Orthopaedics (JTO) and Bone and Joint 360.

His interests outside orthopaedics include sport, travel and theatre. Michael is also a keen, but very average, golfer. From an early age he has had an interest in horse racing/breeding. As a consequence of this, many of the racing fraternity (jockeys, trainers etc) are patients.
