Wired Magazine Monthly magazine Critic: 360 Rating:

Offering clever insight on technology, innovations… happenings around the world, business, etc. Wired magazine is an excellent magazine for snippets of news and current stories.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy By Douglas Adams

Critic: Many Faces of Space Rating:

The Hitchhiker’s Guide

is a funny book about 2 aliens, 2 humans, and a gloomy robot. It’s a great book for the funny book lovers. So read and KEEP CALM!!

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn By Mark Twain Critic: Professor Mystery Rating:

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is

about a normal boy with a thirst for adventure. After his adventures with Tom Sawyer, Huck inherits a large fortune. He is adopted by a widow who lives with her sister who

teaches him. Huck’s mom is dead and his dad is always poor and drunk. In my opinion Huckleberry Finn is a great book for anyone, especially if you love long adventurous books. Don’t worry, you don’t need to read Tom Sawyer first, I know I didn’t.

Eleanor & Park

By Rainbow Rowell Critic: Elephantsandpeanuts Rating:

Eleanor and Park is the

kind of book that makes you want to listen to 80s music and hug people. You may never read a book like this. You really should. Eleanor and Park is an incredibly honest, realistic, love story. It follows two teenagers in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1986, as they meet, become friends, and eventually fall in love and stuff. But it’s not all mushy-happy-love– Eleanor is putting up with a ton of bullying, both from students at her school, and her abusive stepfather. I love this book for lots of reasons. The romance is believable—it’s not a “love at first sight” thing. It takes time. There’s also a lot of good music references in it. And if you still aren’t convinced, THE AUTHOR’S NAME IS RAINBOW! You’ll love this book—especially if you like John Green’s books.

The Son of Neptune By Rick Riordan Critic: 42MO Rating:

This book was another masterpiece. If you read The Lost Hero this is for you. Percy’s on a quest and lost his memory. Hazel has come back from the dead. Frank’s life depends on a half-burned stick. All three of them are on a quest to get back death. This book has a perfect balance of action and Roman mythology.

The Edge of Normal Webseries

Critic: Elephantsandpeanuts Rating:

Do you like angst? How about teenage girls with superpowers? What about GLBT representation? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you should watch “Edge of Normal”! It’s a web series about a bunch of girls with superpowers. It’s on youtube, and there’s only one season (you can watch it in under an hour) but there can be a 2nd if they get enough support. It’s a great web series — try watching it!

The House of Hades By Rick Riordan Critic: Thoth Rating:

The latest installation in Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus series, this book did not exactly meet the success it hoped for. The book was pretty good, lacking its predecessor’s barftastic lovey-dovey [shudders] parts. Now, I can’t say anything about the plot without spoiling the first 8 books. I can say that it picked up right where the last book left off: on a cliffhanger– LITERALLY. Anyway, read Riordan’s Percy Jackson books or feel the curse of Thoth. Peace out.

A Very Potter Musical Starkid (on youtube) Critic: FLE Rating

HILARIOUS!!! Harry Potter + Musical = AWESOME!!! It is a must-watch play. So WATCH IT!!!

The House of Hades By Rick Riordan

Critic: Totally Not Erica Rating:

As Percy and Annabeth trek through Tartarus, the rest of the heroes continue to battle a vast array of monsters in the Overworld. IF you liked the rest of the Riordan books, you will be sure to enjoy this new one. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys mythology and fantasy stories.

Ashes of Rose

By Mary Jane Auch Critic: Yoshi Rating:

All of the 8th grade has to read this book, but I feel as if it’s too...okay. I guess it’s a good book, but then again it’s supposed to be a historical fiction book about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. It’s supposed to be about the Fire, but it’s weird because the fire only happens after the first 26 chapters of the 30 chapter book. There are too many feelings and not enough stuff happening. There are a few good things though, like when the main character Rose doesn’t just sit around crying or throwing up — which is actually what she is doing the majority of the book. Read it if you want, but you’re going to be forced to read it in 8th grade anyway.

The Emperor’s New Groove movie

Critic: I am Zim Rating:

The Emperor’s New Groove is a Disney movie made in 2000. It is about a selfish emperor named Kuzco who is turned into a llama by his advisor Yzma. He must learn to be trustworthy when his only hope is a peasant named Pacha. This is a really great movie, one of Disney’s best. It is funny beyond belief. (“Tell us where the talking llama is and we’ll burn your house to the ground. Don’t you mean OR? Tell us where the talking llama is or we’ll burn your house to the ground?”) This is a must see Disney film.

The Thief Lord By Cornelia Funke Critic: A Price Rating:

This takes place in Venice, where two orphans are hiding from the world so that they won’t be split up and taken to their aunt. There, they meet a rag-tag bunch of children being supported by a high-heel wearing boy named Scipios. What they don’t know is that there is a detective on their trail. If you like Dragon Rider or the Inkheart trilogy then read The Thief Lord.

Hall of Fame Players COOPERSTOWN By Bruce Herman

Critic: Cooper (I Can Walk) Rating:

This book is about baseball and famous players of the game. It mentions at least every Hall of Fame player, something about them (Whether it is ten pages of quotes, stats and facts, or the percentage of people who voted them into the Hall), and it is very entertaining to read, whether you didn’t know that the pitcher’s mound was a real thing, or you can quote players that most people have never heard of...and, since I love baseball, I for one love this book.

Michael Vey series By Richard Paul Evans

Critic: Totally Not Erica Rating: Picture a normal 10th grade boy. Well, he isn’t so normal. Michael can be electric. And...well, I can’t say anything more without this becoming a spoiler. Just read it or be cursed forever!

Sherlock

British TV series Critic: A price Rating:

Okay. No spoilers starting now. Sherlock is a British tv series as a modern twist on Sir Arthur Connan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. It is written by the person who wrote Doctor Who (Mo faaaat!) Steven Moffat. While there were only 6 episodes, they are long and very well written. It’s entertaining because there are mysteries you can solve yourself and everything can be a clue. If you liked Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes the book, or just want to solve mysteries, then you should watch this series. P.S. If you are emotional, bring tissues to season finales. Spoiler block over.

Eleanor and Park By Rainbow Rowell Critic: FLE Rating: Eleanor and Park is a fabulous story of two very awkward, relatable teens and their very very awkward relationship. From totally awesome 80s body moving stuff to super epic comics, Eleanor and Park is extremely crucial to read or a llama will DIE!!! DON’T MAKE A LLAMA DIE!!!

The Railway Series, Volume 1 By Christopher Awry Critic: I am Zim Rating:

I am reviewing the first couple of books for the railway series.

The Three Railway Engines. In the first

story we meet Edward. In the second story Edward helps Gordon up a hill. In the third and fourth story it tells the story of Henry who thinks the rain will spoil his paint and stays in a tunnel which he is boarded up in. He is let out when Gordon breaks down pulling the express.

Thomas the Tank Engine. This book

introduces the number 1 engine, Thomas. Unfortunately, Thomas gets into trouble when he plays a trick on Gordon and Gordon gets back at him, accidentally leaves his coaches behind and gets pushed by trucks. In the last story, Thomas helps the new engine James when trucks push him off the rails. Sir Tophan Hatt rewards Thomas by giving him his own branch line.

James the Red Engine. The next book gives

us more about James. He accidentally blows off Sir Tophan Hatt’s hat. Later one of his coach’s pipes breaks and is fixed by a passenger bootlace. He redeems himself when he handles trucks and takes the express when Gordon takes the wrong line and ends up back at the station. In my opinion the railway series may be for younger kids but it is very enjoyable.
