IV LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Brothers and Sisters, First of all, many thanks for the prayers and thoughtful emails and supportive messages sent to me following my recent bulletin letter regarding an update on my medical condition. It was good hearing from so many of you! These challenges in life are carried easier when they are not carried alone. As shared in my recent bulletin letter, I have been at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Mn. from Monday, November 29th returning Friday, December 3rd. The weather was a bracing 20 degrees and colder! However, the whole city is very user friendly for folks from all over the world visiting the world renown Clinic. There were two days of testing and consultations with neurologists and other specialists. It was greatly reassuring to have a confirmation of the assessment of my own doctor here at the UCI medical center. While a specific diagnosis still alludes them, it is a neuromuscular condition that has indeed compromised my ability to walk normally yet is not life threatening. That is good news! Will it get better or worse? The doctor couldn't say. These conditions have very mysterious components. With medication, physical therapy and maintaining as regular a life style as possible accommodating to my obvious disability, life goes on. Much has to do with one's positive attitude in life. So, you may be seeing me moving around the Mission Campus in one of those small scooters helping me get from point A to B a heck of a lot quicker! Such is life in the age of technology. Now, I'm not letting you off the hook in praying for a miraculous healing! Blessed Serra and Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman and Blessed John XXIII , all need one more miracle to put them over the top! This would be a perfect one! In the meantime, we bask in the simple miracle of life itself and the love that makes all life worth living. Beginning our new week in the Lord, we commend to His mercy and love all those who have gone before us in faith recently, especially (names). May they be at peace. A blessed Advent to you all! Msgr. Baptismal liturgy team is looking for two people who are willing to be trained to help at baptismal
liturgies. Duties include assisting the celebrant by filling font with water, lighting candles, reading from the lectionary, greeting & ushering families, preparing the baptismal area and cleanup after the baptisms. Liturgy of Baptism takes place on the third Sunday of the month. Time requirement is from 2:15 PM to 4 PM. Commitment is for one year, 3 times during the year. Parish Sponsors for RCIA candidates
Men and women are needed to accompany candidates who wish to become Catholic. Meetings are held on Sunday morning for one hour.
Pre-baptismal Preparation for Parents and Godparents.
Couples are needed to help with the pre-baptismal training of parents and godparents for the Sacrament of Baptism for their infants. Skills needed are the ability to be welcoming in a friendly manner, ability to facilitate a program, and willingness to share faith. Training is provided. SECOND COLLECTION DECEMBER 11/12 There will be a second collection next weekend, the Annual Retirement Fund for Religious and Priests. Retirement Fund for Religious benefits those women and men who, as vowed members of Catholic religious communities, have dedicated their lives to prayer and ministry. The Fund benefits both contemplative and active religious communities. Today, nearly 35,000 religious, mostly women, are past age 70. More than 5,600 need skilled nursing care.

PREGUNTA DE REFLEXION DE LA SEMANA Semana del 12 de Diciembre del 2010 Tercer domingo de Adviento Isaías 35, 1-6ª Santiago 5, 7-10 Mateo 3, 2-11 Tema: “El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí; me ha enviado para anunciar el Evangelio a los pobres” Adultos: ¿Qué puedo hacer esta semana para dar testimonio viviente de mi fe en Cristo? Adolescentes y Niños: ¿Qué puedo hacer esa semana para demostrarle a mis amigos que Jesús es importante en mi vida y que él es verdaderamente el Mesías?
MENSAJE DE LA SEMANA
Seguimos avanzando en el camino del Adviento. El canto, “Vamos a preparar el camino del Señor”, nos puede marcar el ritmo de la marcha. Y en este caminar, surge la esperanza de encontrarnos de nuevo, con nueva fuerza, con el Señor que nos salva. La imagen más adecuada es la de la madre, en espera tensa, dulce y entrañable del hijo que lleva dentro de sí misma. Y la madre espera a su hijo y lo hace activamente: ella misma -en todo su ser- se está preparando, con todo detalle, al momento culminante del nacimiento. Ella no está ociosa: sus manos, su mente, su corazón, todo su ser, está actuando y preparándose con vistas a ese momento. Bella imagen ésta de la madre. Así es también el Adviento cristiano. Así nos invita la liturgia de hoy, domingo tercero de Adviento. “alegría desbordante” (1ª lectura): así describe el profeta a su pueblo la liberación por parte de Dios; todo está cambiando radicalmente. “la venida del Señor está cerca” (2ª lectura): es la propuesta del apóstol Santiago a su comunidad que se siente cansada. “las obras de Cristo” (evangelio): los ciegos ven, los inválidos andan… a los pobres se les anuncia la Buena Noticia: éstas son las obras de salvación que Jesús realiza. La salvación es una realidad. Es necesario seguir caminando. ¡El Señor está ya cerca!

Carta del Pastor Queridos hermanos y hermanas, Primero, quiero darles las gracias por sus oraciones, mensajes electrónicos y su apoyo después de haber leído mi carta en el boletín referente a mi condición médica. Fue un alivio el escuchar de tantos de ustedes. Estos retos en la vida son más llevaderos cuando no se llevan solo. Como les compartí en el reciente boletín, estuve en la Clínica Mayo en Rochester, Mn., del lunes, noviembre 29 al viernes, diciembre 3. El clima fue tremendamente frío 20 grados y menos de temperatura. Sin embargo, la ciudad en sí es una ciudad amigable para las muchas personas que vienen de todo el mundo a visitar esta reconocida clínica. Tuve dos días de exámenes y consultas con neurólogos y otros especialistas. Fue reconfortante el confirmar que los resultados que mi doctor de UCI había llevado acabo con anterioridad coincidieron con los del centro médico. Aunque aun no se tiene un diagnóstico especifico, es una condición neuromuscular la cual ha dañado mi habilidad de caminar normalmente, sin embargo no es algo que arriesga mi vida. ¡Eso es buena noticia! ¿Mejorará o empeorará? El doctor no pudo dar respuesta. Estas condiciones tienden a tener componentes misteriosos. Bajo medicamento, terapia física y un mantenimiento al llevar un estilo de vida regular considerando mi discapacidad, la vida continúa. Mucho tiene que ver con la actitud positiva que se tenga en la vida. Entonces, ustedes tal vez me vean moverme alrededor de la Misión en uno de esas patinetas motorizadas que me ayudaran moverme de un punto a otro con más rapidez. ¡Así es la vida en estos tiempos de tecnología! Ahora, no pienso permitirles que dejen de orar por una de esas sanaciones milagrosas. Bendito Serra, Bendito Cardenal John Henry Newman y Bendito Juan XXIII, todos ellos necesitan un milagro más para subir a los altares. ¡Este sería el milagro perfecto! Mientras tanto, confiamos en el simple milagro de la vida y el amor que hace que valga la pena vivir. Comenzando esta nueva semana en el Señor, encomendamos a su misericordia y amor a todos aquellos que nos han precedido por la fe, especialmente (nombre/s). Que encuentren la paz. TERCER DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO: MOTIVO DE REGOCIJO
El color morado se usa durante el Adviento para expresar el carácter de este tiempo de preparación espiritual para la Navidad y la “venida del Señor”. Pero en el Tercer Domingo de Adviento, anteriormente conocido como Domingo Gaudete (“regocijo”, en latín), se puede agregar el color rosa al ambiente litúrgico. Toda la liturgia está impregnada de regocijo. La primera lectura de hoy y el Evangelio proclaman la realidad de la obra salvadora de Dios entre nosotros. Isaías describe con exuberancia la idílica transformación de toda la creación como resultado de la presencia de Dios en medio de su pueblo. En el Evangelio, Jesús vincula la profecía de Isaías con lo que está ocurriendo en su propio ministerio. Además de lista de curaciones de Isaías (los ciegos, los cojos, los leprosos y los sordos), la presencia de Jesús ofrece otras dos razones para regocijarnos: “Los muertos resucitan y a los pobres se les anuncia el Evangelio” (Mateo 11:5). © Copyright, J. LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE: MADRE DE TODOS LOS HOMBRES
D
entro de la experiencia religiosa del pueblo mexicano, la Virgen de Guadalupe es, sin lugar a dudas, el mayor acontecimiento de todos, tanto social como religioso. Este hecho religioso necesita "ser purificado" para que no nos quedemos en un mero movimiento masivo o en un evento religioso histórico o espiritualista, sino que, como creyentes, sepamos descubrir en él toda su riqueza cristiana. La visita de la Virgen a tierra mexicana no fue un hecho casual, sino que ella viene a nosotros con un objetivo muy específico: traernos un mensaje para que ahora y aquí nosotros seamos sus continuadores. Ella es el punto de integración de ese rico mosaico de diversas etnias, cultural, y pueblos que darán origen a lo que hoy se conoce como Nación mexicana: " una nación mestiza" que sabe integrar los valores de dos culturas y cosmovisiones, y nacerá " una nueva manera de comprometerse y relacionarse desde la fe en Jesucristo" ( Del encuentro con Jesucristo...) La presencia de la Virgen Morena, en medio del pueblo indígena en la figura del indio Juan Diego. Ella se acerca a él; le habla; le quiere con amor de madre; le llama " Hijito mío". La Virgen de Guadalupe rompe el muro que separa a los hombres por causa del color de la piel, su situación social y económica, la cultura de la que cada uno de nosotros provenimos.... Ella no tiene prejuicios, causados por las diferencias sociales ni culturales, porque para ella, todos son su hijos y nos ama por igual por encima de nuestras diferencias, y lo único que quiere es enseñarnos el camino que lleva ala casa del Padre, donde todos los seres humanos esperamos un día reunirnos con Él en torno a esa gran mesa que ha preparado para todos sus hijos. Ella se presenta como la madre de todos los hombres. Este gesto maternal hace que nosotros nos pongamos en camino, sin importar la distancia, hasta su casa del Tepeyac. Nuestro caminar hacia la casa de la madre es con la seguridad de que ahí vamos a encontrar calor, comprensión, amor, consuelo... Una vez que hemos repuesto nuestras fuerzas, ella nos envía en busca de muchos hermanos nuestros que andan desorientados y no encuentran la casa materna. Nuestra misión será enseñarles el camino de regreso a ella.. Es una mujer defensora de los derechos de las personas, de manera muy especial de los más pobres, de los explotados y marginados. Nuestra tarea de creyentes será ayudar a que esas personas recuperen su dignidad pisoteada, de la misma manera que ella lo hizo con Juan Diego; tratándolo como persona igual a otras de mayor rango que él y lo nombra su mensajero ante el obispo Zumárraga. Esta acción maternal hace que Juan Diego pierda el miedo y se dé cuenta de su dignidad como persona e hijo de Dios, a pesar de sus grandes diferencias sociales y culturales Es una mujer en quien se puede confiar porque ella siempre cumple lo que promete y sale en auxilio de sus hijos necesitados. Cuando todo parece ponérsele difícil a Juan Diego, ella viene en su ayuda con el milagro de las rosas y de su imagen grabada en la tilma, que será la prueba que el obispo Zumárraga necesitaba para entender los planes de Dios y cómo Él quería que su acción pastoral fuera en medio del pueblo naciente. Con ella es posible cualquier cambio. A lo largo de la historia del pueblo mexicano, la Virgen de Guadalupe ha sido la que ha reunido al pueblo en sus luchas por una mayor justicia. El estandarte de la guadalupana siempre ha ido al frente de los reclamos, sociales y espirituales, del pueblo. Si ella se ha quedado en esta tierra es porque, como nos dice el NÍCAN MOPÓHUA, quiere: "oír y remediar todos los lamentos, angustias, penas y dolores... Mostrar y dar toda mi comprensión, auxilio y defensa a ti y a todos los moradores de esta tierra, y a todos los que me invoquen y en mí confíen". Por todo ello, el pueblo la tiene como abogada y defensora, siendo sabedor de que con ella todo se puede obtener por difícil que parezca y que algunas personas digan que nada puede cambiar. Con ella a nuestro lado, aún los caminos más difíciles, se hacen posibles. Nuestro quehacer, como parroquia, tendrá que ser el vivir y poner en práctica este legado guadalupano y no descansar hasta que todos los hombres recuperen su dignidad de hijos de Dios. Ante nosotros tenemos un camino largo y difícil..., pero no estamos solos, María de Guadalupe camina junto a nosotros.

Tercer domingo de Adviento

Como todos saben, Jesús no nació en su casa. Cuenta el Evangelio que, poco antes del nacimiento de Jesús, José y María dejaron su hogar de Nazaret para ir a empadronarse a Belén, según obligaba un decreto del emperador romano. No sabemos cuanto duró el viaje, pero sí dice el relato que, mientras estaban allí le llegó el momento del parto a María. Se supondría que María y José tardaron nueve días en llegar a Belén e hicieron, por lo tanto nueve jornadas. Durante siglos, el pueblo de México ha venido recordando ese viaje de María y José durante los nueve días anteriores a la Navidad, en la celebración de las posadas. Aunque en algún momento se convirtió en fiesta y catequesis para los niños, con piñatas, estos últimos nueve días son un buen momento para la reflexión de todos, adultos y niños, mexicanos o de cualquier otro país. Esto ocurrió hace muchísimos años, siglos, pero muchos de los detalles del relato nos pueden resultar muy familiares. Nosotros como pueblo peregrino y emigrante todavía recordamos que quizás en nuestros pueblos y ciudades la hospitalidad era muy común. Pero en sociedades como en la que escogimos vivir resulta más difícil, porque a veces encontramos más peligros y dificultades, y no conocemos bien el ambiente. De esa manera nosotros, como emigrantes, nos identificamos con la jornada de José y María. Siguiendo esa tradición y para prepararnos para el nacimiento del niñito Dios en nuestros corazones, la comunidad de San Juan Capistrano acompañamos a José y María durante nueve días en búsqueda de posada. Iniciamos las Posadas el miércoles 15 de Diciembre. Puede ver el volante en este mismo boletín. Es una invitación abierta para toda la comunidad. COLECTA ESPECIAL PARA EL FONDO PARA LA JUBILACION DE RELIGIOSOS EL FIN DE SEMANA DEL 11 Y 12 DE DICIEMBRE, 2010.
La familia católica promedio gasta cada año más de $12 en galletas, más de $21 en papitas fritas, más de $29 en café para llevar. Los donativos para el Fondo para la Jubilación de Religiosos promedian anualmente un poco más de $1 por adulto católico. El Fondo para la Jubilación de Religiosos beneficia a más de 35,000 religiosas y religiosos ancianos que recibieron estipendios muy bajos durante sus largos años de servicio los cuales fueron reinvertidos en el ministerio. En ese entonces, no había planes 401(k) ni pensiones.¡Su donativo marcará la diferencia!
Sacramento de la Confesión durante Aviento
En el sacramento de la Confesión nuestros pecados son perdonados por Dios y renovamos la pureza de nuestro bautismo. Les invitamos a que experimenten el amor de Cristo a través del Sacramento de la Confesión el cual es un signo muy apropiado para expresar el arrepentimiento y la conversión desde el corazón mismo. Por ello y debido a que estamos en el tiempo de Adviento, Sábado 18 de Diciembre, habrá varios sacerdotes de las 8:00 AM a 9:30 AM y el Lunes 20 de Diciembre de las 11:00 AM a las 12 del medio día. No habrá confesiones el Viernes 24 de Diciembre. Asimismo el horario de Confesiones en las parroquias vecinas son las siguientes: Iglesia San Eduardo – Miércoles 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM y Sábados de 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM Nuestra Señora de Fátima – Sábados de 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM Saint Timothy - Sábado 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM Saint Catherine – Sábado 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM y 1:00 PM antes de la misa en Español.
