Local News Village Clean Up Day Unlike last year the 1st April dawned with beautiful sunshine. The Parish Council gathered with their tools, children and spouses to greet the spring with vigour. Eamon washed all the road signs, Greg supplied us with more tools and bags, Bob, Kirstan & Jeremy went to the gutters hacking at the weeds and sweeping dirt into piles. Stuart had three small helpers in the form of his children to gather all the ground elder in the Business Hub flower bed. Stuart went on to gather ivy from the walls and weed the path vigorously. Melvyn made it possible for us to clear much of the vegetative debris whilst Sue cleaned all the dog bins. Drinks were supplied by Ashley from the Hub. Melanie cleaned the grit bin and the telephone kiosk whist Gill from the village cleaned all the Hall gates. The tree squares had already been dug and planted. The ‘Piece de Resistance’ was Paul who had the Citygoworking with the Gutter Crew. No, it didn’t sweep very well but it did pick up grit! The following week saw the Guides joining us even though it was the hottest weekend this year and most were away with their parents. Still, they managed to gather a very hard working group of two leaders, one gardener father with power tools and four guides. Paul, Eamon & Jeremy went to work on the jungle that is the Almshouse land with Dave bringing up the rear on the hedges and trees. Branches were cut, bushes were trimmed and the land behind the Hall was exposed to its full area. I am not sure where the debris went this time but it went. The Guides removed a great deal of ivy from the hedges and building. One went home afterwards to remove it from their fence! The women weeded further to clear age old cobbles and pathway. A great deal of work was done during these two Saturdays and I am extremely grateful to all who participated. To the two volunteers who came at lunchtime to help - I am sorry no one was there but sustenance was required by all. Perhaps next time and thank you for offering. Cllr Jane Reade 4

Local News Majorie Faulkner My mother, Marjorie Faulkner sadly passed away on Tuesday 11th April in Stone House Nursing Home aged 91. She had only been a resident there since February 10th. Up until then, she had lived with me in her Annexe on my house in Waddesdon since 2010. Mum had made a few acquaintances in the village and had also been a member of the village WI until she could no longer attend. I just thought they should know. Mum had loved living here very much. Thank you Linda Mead (daughter)

May 2017 Update We are working to incorporate the extremely useful feedback that we received during the Statutory (Reg 14) Consultation into the Submission draft of the Waddesdon Neighbourhood Plan, hopefully to be completed very soon! Next Steps:

AVDC will review the Plan, and will hold another consultation (lasting at least six weeks), allowing for comments on the final draft.

An independent Examiner will then be appointed to evaluate the Plan, focusing on whether it meets the basic conditions set out by law.

Upon satisfactory completion of this examination (with any required amendments), AVDC will organise a referendum of Waddesdon villagers on the electoral register.

If more than 50% of those voting in the referendum vote 'yes', then AVDC will bring the Plan into legal force.

Decisions on whether or not to grant planning permission in Waddesdon must then be made in accordance with the Neighbourhood Plan. The Waddesdon Neighbourhood Plan is almost complete - the Finish Line is now in sight! Many thanks again for all the support that Waddesdon villagers have shown - this Neighbourhood Plan belongs to us ALL!

Local News

We all enjoyed honing our bakery skills at our April meeting: our President and talented baker, Jenny Conner led us in a workshop in dough making; 2 savoury doughs resulted in a delicious foacaccia and some bread rolls and we also learned how to make an enriched sweet dough. Our May meeting will be at the Bowls Club and our hosts have invited us to a roll-up – so do come and join us all for a taster of Bowls. June sees the first of our summer outings; back by popular demand, we will be visiting a local garden in the National Garden Scheme. We'll arrange lift shares nearer the time. Thanks to everyone who attended our fantastic Murder Mystery and made it such a success - we had a record turn out and our entertaining cast kept us guessing up until the last minute about who the guilty culprit might be. We look forward to welcoming you all back on Saturday 19 November for our ever popular family bingo evening. We have a varied programme to suit all ages and tastes. We generally meet on the 2nd Monday of each month at Waddesdon Bowls Club from 7.45pm. Now the evenings are later, shake off those cobwebs and take a stroll through the village to our inviting venue to meet new friends! Meetings are free to members and we ask for a recommended donation of around £5 plus materials, where applicable, for non-members. For further details contact the Secretary, Kathryn Aldersea on 07739 300229. email: [email protected] or find us on our Facebook page – Waddesdon WI.

Local News Being a Good Neighbour It is really easy to be a good neighbour, and it can make all the difference to people’s lives. Here is a short list of basic DOs and DON’Ts to help everyone get along! I am sure you can think of more ways to be a good neighbour which could be added to this list. Mostly, it is just about being considerate, and, well, neighbourly! DOs Keep a regular look-out for the elderly or those who live alone, and let them know they can count on you for help. Keep your front garden tidy and trim back garden hedges or trees and overhanging greenery that border pathways, cut back high hedges which may cut off light from your neighbour's garden. Park your cars tidily and efficiently; don’t park on paths or across neighbours’ access, and park away from corners of road junctions. Warn neighbours if you are planning a party or doing anything that may affect them; building work, for example. Be considerate when lighting fires in your garden if you have close neighbours. Think about when others may be out enjoying their gardens or if their washing is hanging out, or if their windows are open. If in doubt, why not pop round and ask? Think before going to the end of your garden to smoke. You may be well away from your house but much closer to someone else's. DON’Ts Don't leave dogs in your garden if they are likely to bark, which can disturb several neighbours for long lengths of time. Don't be a noisy neighbour by talking/shouting/playing loud music, especially at unsocial hours. Don't leave cars running or rev cars up or toot horns unnecessarily. Don't use noisy garden machinery like mowers/strimmers before 9am or after 6pm any day of the week. Don’t site your children’s trampoline where they can see straight into your neighbour’s windows. Well away from you can be very close to them! If everyone sticks to this list, then hopefully we can all live harmoniously… and that’s when good neighbours become good friends…! A local Resident 36

From the Minister Time to reflect…. I write this during Lent when I have done a good deal of reflection, and looking forward to Easter; these words from Adelaide Anne Proctor came to me as I wonder at God’s forgiveness and the hope as I look forward to whatever he has in store for me. One by one the sands are flowing, one by one the moments fall, Some are coming, some are going; do not strive to grasp them all. One by one thy duties wait thee, let thy whole strength go to each, Let no future dreams elate thee, learn thou first what these can teach. One by one (bright gifts from Heaven) joys are sent thee here below; Take them readily when given, ready too to let them go. One by one griefs shall meet thee, do not fear an armed band; One will fade as others greet thee, shadows passing through the land. Do not look at life’s long sorrow, see how small each moment’s pain; God will help thee for tomorrow, so each day begin again. Every hour that fleets so slowly has its task to do or bear; Luminous the crown, and holy, when each gem is set with care. Do not linger with regretting, or for passing hours despond; Nor, the daily toil forgetting, look too eagerly beyond. Hours are golden links, God’s token reaching Heaven, but one by one Take them, lest the chain be broken ere the pilgrimage be done. At the start of June we celebrate Pentecost – the gift of God’s power we call the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised when he left this world. I often wonder if there are things I could have done better and are there things I will regret? Undoubtedly there are, but there are also many memories of things done well and I do know that when I trust in God I am more successful! Blessings Rev Irena 38
