Department of Nursing Job Description: Nursing Faculty - Full Time Qualifications: a.
Required: License to practice as a registered nurse in Ohio and other states; terminal degree in nursing, masters degree in nursing, expertise in the areas of nursing appropriate to the assigned courses; willing to teach evening and possibly weekend classes, as well as daytime classes.
b.
Desired: Teaching experience in graduate and undergraduate nursing program; experience in curriculum development and evaluation; physical assessment skills, primary care or medical-surgical experience; national certification as advanced practice nurse or clinical nurse leader; and DNP or PhD preferred.
c.
Desired personal characteristics/beliefs: The candidates should be able to work within the philosophy of the nursing program; be dedicated to excellence in teaching and nursing practice; have given careful thought to his/her philosophy of teaching/learning; recognize relationship between the liberal arts college and the vocational and professional world; believe in the college and a general agreement with the ideals, aims, and purposes of the college.
Responsibilities Faculty are responsible for actively participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing programs and for participating in activities of the college in ways that benefit the college and the nursing department. Faculty are expected to be involved in professional and community activities for purposes of self-development and service. Functions of faculty members include: a.
Plans, provides and evaluates student learning experiences in assigned nursing courses, scholarly projects and comprehensive examination and thesis activities. 1)
Participates in the development and maintenance of course syllabi, objectives, learning opportunities and evaluation materials.

Participates with other faculty in course planning and evaluation meetings.
3)
Teaches classes and facilitate group discussions.
4)
Makes specific arrangements with appropriate personnel in clinical agencies for learning experiences of assigned students.
5)
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with personnel in clinical facilities.
6)
Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned students in the clinical laboratory.
7)
Participates with campus laboratory coordinator in planning, supervising and evaluating students' on-campus laboratory experience.
8)
Documents student performance in nursing courses and maintaining accurate student records.
9)
Maintains office hours adequate to meet the needs of students.
10)
Participates in making revisions of assigned nursing courses based on faculty and student evaluation, current trends and available research.
11)
Faculty are expected to meet the requirements of the Otterbein College Faculty Manual.
Develops, implements and evaluates the nursing programs. 1)
Contributes to the ongoing evaluation of the program philosophy, framework, objectives, and curriculum.
2)
Assists in the formulation of curricular changes within the program.
3)
Participates in determination of standards for admission, progression and graduation of students.
4)
Attends nursing department meetings.
5)
Serves on program committees as elected or appointed.
6)
Provides input to the Chairperson and directors regarding proposed nursing class and clinical laboratory schedules.

Provides input to the Chairperson and directors regarding needed resources, supplies, equipment, library materials, textbooks, etc.
8)
Works with other faculty toward appropriate approval and accreditation of the nursing program.
Participates in activities to recruit and retain students in the program. 1)
Participates in organized nursing student recruitment activities, e.g., meeting with prospective students, attending college or department open houses, telephoning prospective students.
2)
Assists with student registration and orientation activities.
3)
Assumes responsibility for academic advising and counseling of assigned students.
4)
Participates in activities to recognize and honor nursing students, e.g., academic honors convocation, commencement, nursing graduation recognition ceremony.
d.
Participates in recruiting and interviewing prospective faculty.

Contributes to overall functioning of the College. 1)
Attends School and Senate Meetings.
2)
Serves on College Committees as elected or appointed.
3)
Participates in campus-wide activities or meetings such as interterm workshops.
4)
Establishes and maintaining effective relationships with faculty colleagues in other departments.
f.
Participates in professional and community activities to enhance functioning as a faculty member, to provide community service, or expand the body of nursing knowledge.
g.
Demonstrates self responsibility for personal and professional growth through such activities as:

Active membership in professional organizations.
2)
Keeps current with literature and research applicable to areas of teaching.
3)
Attendance at continuing education workshops and meetings.
4)
Keeps needed clinical skills up to date.
