Breakout Session C: Telestroke General Tele-Neurology as a Solution for Limited Neurology Access in South Carolina
Given the overall shortage and difficulty of recruiting neurologists to smaller towns and getting existing neurologists to provide full coverage, an alternative solution is needed. The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) already has a robust tele-stroke program that has been in place since 2008. Using this as a template, we have created a general tele-neurology service to serve the needs of the hospitals with limited or non-existent neurology coverage. This program will allow more patients to stay at rural hospitals and avoid disruptive transfers.
