Principal’s News Students and staff have settled well into term 4, and students are making the most of their time and opportunities in the run up to the end of the year. There is a real sense of purpose as many of our students are now in their final years of secondary schooling and are looking forward eagerly to the next phase of their lives as independent young adults. We look forward to celebrating achievements of all students on 9th December. This is a great opportunity for all families to catch up, meet the other students in the school and speak to all the staff. Please ensure your bookings are in next week. Full details on page 3. Congratulations to Ella on

Lee and I attended the Victorian Curriculum Digital Technologies workshop during November. This workshop was aimed for the introduction of digital technology as part of the Victorian Curriculum. World Teacher’s Day was celebrated on Friday 28th October in Victoria. We took this opportunity to thank all of our teachers on their exceptional efforts to make Montague a very special place for all of our students and families.

Lee, Sotiria and Ella all completed their Anaphylaxis training during October. There have been a number of updates to child safety standards. These are reflected in all of our policies which are available on the website. As part of the DET four year cycle our school is being reviewed in first term 2017. We are currently in preparation for this, and shortly you will be invited to participate in an online survey.

our Urban Food Garden project and around the school. Every day we see people with their take away coffee, walking past our school to enter the skyscrapers. Sustaining the planet is a key learning area at Montague. Disposable coffee cups are becoming a major pollutant
with approximately 1 billion cups being used in Australia alone each year. Many coffee cups contain a thin layer of plastic, making them less attractive than you may be lead to believe. Drawing on this the students used recycled coffee cups in a different way; filling them with soil and plants as a main feature of the sculpture. The exhibition ran from 22nd— 30th October at Gasworks, Port Melbourne.

Jonathon has written an epic adventure for all of us to enjoy. He has broken it up into instalments, and Montague CEC proudly presents episode 1:
This term I have enjoyed many things. My favourite thing this term would probably be either sport or work experience. For sport this term I played netball along with 6 other kids. We won all games except one. We couldn’t make it into the finals because our whole team was boys except for two. I have done two types of work experience this term. I did one at Zuccala homes. I stickered books and cleaned. For the rest of the term I did my other work experience at MSAC where I done work placement in . lots of different areas. I did Lifesaving, Reception, Speedo shop, venue operations and the gym. I have really enjoyed cooking on Monday this term. I have been making lots of cupcakes and decorating them because we had to enter the cakes into Melbourne show. On Monday afternoons I was in Lee’s class doing a Human Rights project. We had to pick what we wanted to do, plan it and then make a poster. Another one of my favourite things this term was Seda with Peter. Every Thursday after recess the Seda students come and we walk down to a park and do lots of little games. I have made friendships by doing this. By Mack
The legend of the Montague Company The story so far, our hero’s, Ja-mus, Riva, SirShortling, Vanless and Phillipus started the quest on the road to Phandalin. However, on the road to Phandalin the Montague company encountered some goblins. The party quickly dispatched the goblins and continued on the path to Phandalin, upon arrival the dwarf Thurderin, who had hired the Montague Company to deliver supplies told them of a cave of goblins and that the trade road had been having trouble with them. The Montague company then proceeded to go to the cave were the found a horde of goblins and their leader Klarg. During the raid on the cave the company found a man called Slidar. He had been brought to the brink of death from starvation and thirst. After the party rescued Slidar from the goblins that were guarding him he told them that Klarg would be in the big room at the other end of the cave. After defeating Klarg and finding three crates belonging to the Blue Lion Shield guild the Montague Company returned to Phandalin with the battered but not dead Slidar. After a night at the stone loge inn the party went out for a few quests as well as returning the Blue Lion Shield guild’s crates. After scouting around the Montague Company accepted three quests, the Red Brand Ruffians, a question for Agatha and Cragmaw Castle, Ja-mus insisted on going on the red beards quest during which he was defeated in the end they ended up going on a quest for Agatha. After that they returned to Phandalin to tell the Shrine Maiden at the Shrine of Luck Agatha’s answer. She was delighted by the answer and rewarded the hero’s. Then they went on to do Cragmaw castle after interrogating two small goblins in Cragmaw cave the Montague Company found the castle and then split in to two groups. Vanless and Phillipus decided to watch the castle for any changes while Ja-mus, Riva and SirShortling went back to Phandalin to tell Slidar where the castle is. After that he asked Ja-mus, Riva and sir-Shortling if they could raid the castle them self’s and bring back the item he needed in there. After they agreed Ja-mus, Riva and sir-Shortling returned to Cragmaw castle….To be continued!
Upcoming Camp By Jonathon 21/10/16 This week room 20 has been preparing for camp. Next week is camp I am so excited, for all those who don’t know, duke bronze camp is on Tuesday next week. We are going to Maldon like last time but unlike last time we are going on a train and in a deeper mine we will also have to hike up and down Tarrangower Tower. I am really looking forward to this camp because this time I won’t be the only one in a tent, lee will be sleeping in the set out tent. I feel sorry for anyone who gets in trouble and has to sleep in the set out tent because I hear he snores loudly
Work Experience Interview with Kailup Kailup has been working hard at his work experience placement at National Tiles in Port Melbourne. He has been working every Thursday from 8am-3pm wrapping pallets with plastic rolls. The tiles are packed in boxes and the forklift picks up the pallet and takes it to Kailup where he prepares it for despatch. Safety is very important and Kailup needs to wear his high-vis top and steel cap boots to keep him safe while working. He has to remain alert at all times, as there are other forklifts in the warehouse area. Kailup has used the trolley jack, and his learning in his Warehousing Certificate to make sure he is being careful when he is lifting. Kaillup says he is really enjoying the work experience. He started last term and will complete 20 weeks by the end of the year. We are glad to hear your feedback on your work experience Kailup, and congratulate you on such a positive time at your placement!
Ash loves skating At Montague we love to hear about our students interests outside of school—particularly when they involve fitness and exercise. Ash has been skating up a storm lately on his Envy Scooter—kept safely stored in his room at home! At his favourite skate parks Ash is often seen in his Remacy clothing, he sends out videos and posts on Instagram with many people following his
skating. Ash always wears his helmet when he’s skating, “safety is important. Knee and elbow pads are helpful, but not as widely used once you’ve learnt your tricks.” He has made a lot of friends while skating on weekends, and now that the weather is getting better he can go out after school as well.
His friend, Gender, taught him all of the tricks he knows. Ash says, “it takes a lot of practice. Some tricks can be learnt in a day, but that depends on how much time you’ve got.” His favourite trick is a bri flip. A bri flip is when you flip the scooter in front of you in a complete rotation while you are up in the air. Keep up the great work Ash!
