Generous donations from the public as well as from booksellers have once again filled our storage house to the brim, so this sale is projected to be among our largest with over 50,000 books. And because all of our books are in good to excellent condition (some are even brand new), this is a great time to begin your Christmas shopping while refreshing your own bookshelves. Here’s what you need to know: As usual, the sale will be located in the Thomas M. McKee Hall at The Ranch. Members of the Friends of the Loveland Library are welcome to attend our pre-sale on Friday, October 27, 4 - 7 p.m. Not a member yet? No problem! You can purchase a membership at the door. See our website for details. Also, as a courtesy to our shoppers, we ask that no scanners be used during our Friday hours. The sale is open to the public on Saturday, October 28,10 a.m. - 4 p.m., and again on Sunday, October 29, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. As an added bonus, Sunday will be regarded as “bag day” - fill a standard-size plastic grocery bag with books (not including vintage) for only $5. Larger bags will be priced accordingly. And remember: you’re supporting the Loveland Public Library by participating in our sale. We thank you for your patronage and we look forward to seeing you there!

Loveland Lights Ushers in the Holiday Season

Saturday, December 2 (9 a.m.- 5 p.m.) and Sunday, December 3 (1 - 4 p.m.) Loveland Lights, sponsored by the Friends of the Loveland Public Library, will transform the library into a winter wonderland featuring decorated trees, various crafters, local musicians, authors, and activities and entertainment for kids of all ages. The always-popular gingerbread house workshops will be held in the children’s storytime room. Details about the workshops and the “Winter House” Competition can be found on the Friends’ website: https:// friendsofthelovelandlibrary.org/resources/Documents/Winter%20House%20flyer.pdf. The theme for this year is “Holiday Traditions Around the World.” Children will be issued a “passport” and will explore and learn about how different countries celebrate the holidays. There will be country stations around the library to explore. After visiting each station, “passports” will be stamped. A surprise awaits all who complete their travels. The Friends will host a holiday book and bake sale and are encouraging participants to bring non-perishable food items to donate. Children’s book authors Joanna and Eric Johnson, Kelly Shepherd, and Ellen Javernick will display, sell and sign their books - a great opportunity for grandparents to do their holiday shopping. Several area school choirs will appear and Lia Rudeen, a budding young harpist will also perform. A Kwanzaa storyteller will add to the festivities. People of all ages will enjoy this event to begin their holiday celebrations.

Volunteer Opportunities Loveland Lights 2017 is just around the corner! Our theme this year is “Holiday Traditions around the World” and will be celebrated at the library on Saturday, December 2 and Sunday, December 3. We are looking for volunteers to help us make this year’s event our best yet. If you would like to help us out with: *becoming a member of the committee *donating baked goods *helping at the Holiday book sale *working with children on gingerbread houses *front desk greeters *setting up and decorating the Christmas trees throughout the library (This happens the week before our Loveland Lights weekend.) We also will need help taking them all down and packing them up for next year. *volunteering wherever needed Contact Lynn Moriarty, [email protected] 303-941-8114 P. 2

Volunteer of the Year Award For the past two years, Friends have named outstanding volunteers to receive the Annis Askew Volunteer of the Year Award. Now it’s your turn to nominate a Friends member that you recognize as an outstanding volunteer. The person may be someone who has participated in multiple events through the years, or someone who went the extra mile in a 2017 event. Send your nomination by December 1 to any Friends board member, or to https:// friendsofthelovelandlibrary.org/contact. Please identify the nominee and detail the contributions that person has made to the Friends organization.

Loveland Loves to Read – Success & Gratitude A big Thank You! to everyone who helped make our 2017 Loveland Loves to Read week a success. The Rialto Theater was almost sold out for our author event. Anne Hillerman stole the hearts of Loveland readers as she shared the background of Spider Woman’s Daughter and working with her father, Tony. Generous donors exceeded our expectations. Thank You! The book discussion groups at the library were well attended and enthusiastic. Special thanks to the Jessup Family and their staff at the Sylvan Dale for hosting Anne and providing a delicious buffet for our luncheon with the author. Anne warmed our hearts again with stories of her family and future writing plans. Dr. Peter Jacobs shared insights and history of Southwest Art at the library. The 46 attendees gained an appreciation of Navajo weaving, pottery designs and Native American jewelry. The week concluded with the showing of A Thief of Time, drawing an audience of 38 people. This and other movies based on the Tony Hillerman books can be checked out from the Library. Anne’s talk at the Rialto will also be available for check-out at the Library. You can keep up with Anne’s work at www.annehillerman.com. For your fan mail or notes of thanks, email to [email protected]. Heartfelt Thanks to all! The Loveland Loves to Read Committee

Join the world in singing at this fun, uplifting event.
