Oklahoma Society of Physiologists  30th Annual Meeting  June 3, 2011  Oral Roberts University                      The thirtieth annual meeting of the Oklahoma Society of Physiologists took place on Friday, June 3, 2011  at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  The title of the meeting was “Physiology: Gateway to  Health Professions” and featured various health professionals speaking on the importance of their  profession to society and how physiology plays a significant role in their profession.  The meeting was  extremely informative and very enjoyable.    Dr. Suzanne Vincent, President of OSP 2010‐1011, came up with the idea and organized the meeting  which got started on time and proceeded exactly on schedule.  This was truly an enjoyable time for all  who attended.  The meeting began with greetings from Dr. Dominic Halsmer, Dean of Science &  Engineering, followed by Dr. Hal Reed, Health Professions Advisor.    The speakers and their professions included:    Vince Lepak, Physical Therapist from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, OU in Tulsa  Margy Cox, Family nurse practitioner from Guymon, OK  Theresa Foster, M.P.H. Program Director of the Medical Technology Program at Saint Francis Hospital in  Tulsa, OK. 

Mary Williams, M.S., and Ph.D. Candidate in epidemiology at the College of Public Health, OU in  Oklahoma City  Stacey Knapp, D.O. Rural physician in Clinton, OK – Keynote Speaker  Michael Behrmann, D.D.S. OU Orthodontics Residency, Oklahoma City  Sarah Gallagher, O.D., Optometrist in Tahlequah, OK                            Bettyjo Westerfield accepts registration forms from Kirby Jarolim and Sally Ruskoskie

                      Stacey Knapp, D.O. rural physician from Clinton, OK, gives keynote address at the luncheon.  Title of her talk – “Physiology and Rural Medicine”.  Great talk Dr. Knapp!!                    Michael Behrmann, D.D.S, gives presentation on the role of physiology in the field of dentristy.       

                  Sarah Gallagher, O.D., gives excellent presentation on the field of optometry.      Our business meeting proceeded immediately after the final presentation by Dr. Gallagher.  The  members expressed high praise toward Dr. Vincent for organizing such a unique and successful meeting.    Joyti Abraham of Bacone College in Muskogee, OK accepted the nomination from the OSP members as  OSP President Elect and the vote was unanimous.  Members felt that the meeting at Bacone College, to  be held in the spring of 2013, will be a great opportunity for OSP to reach out to an underserved area.    Items  for discussion at next meeting include:   updated chapter bylaws  writing grant proposal for 2013 meeting  web page development   updating tax‐exempt status
