Download announcement (New window) (pdf/investigacion/583.pdf) Date of Publication: 04/05/2016 Deadline for applications: 30/06/2016 Minimun qualification: PhD in Physics or Astrophysics / Doctor en Física o Astrofísica Contact: jalberto at iac.es The IAC (http://www.iac.es/) (Tenerife) invites applications for ONE postdoctoral contract to work on topics within the “Precision cosmology with PLANCK, QUIJOTE and SDSS” (AYA2014-60438-P) project, led by Dr. José Alberto Rubiño Martín. Research topics at the IAC include most areas of astrophysics: solar physics, planetary systems, stellar and interstellar physics, galactic formation and evolution, and cosmology and astroparticles. These research lines are supported by an ambitious instrumentation program. The IAC has been selected as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence (http://www.idi.mineco.gob.es/portal/site/MICINN/menuitem.7eeac5cd345b4f34f09dfd1001432ea0/? vgnextoid=cba733a6368c2310VgnVCM1000001d04140aRCRD) by the Spanish Government in 2015, a prestigious recognition awarded for the second time to the IAC as a leading research institute in Spain. Duties: The selected candidate will pursue research related to one or several of the following fields: Ø To conduct the observations, the data processing and data analysis of optical/IR images and spectroscopy for the study of the new galaxy clusters detected by the Planck satellite. The associated observing program is 128-MULTIPLE-16/15B. Ø To develop specific tools for the identification of new galaxy clusters in optical/IR images: over-densities, color-magnitude, spatial distributions, redshift determinations. Ø To apply these tools to the optical/infrared images from our follow-up program, and also to archival data. Ø To participate in the Science working groups for the preparation of the WEAVE surveys. Ø To participate in the Science working groups of the space mission Euclid. Expertise in the following topics will be highly valued: Ø Observational experience with optical/IR telescopes. Ø Experience in the processing of optical/IR images and spectroscopy. Ø Observational experience in the study of galaxy clusters and/or luminous red galaxies. Ø Experience in the use of photometric redshift estimation methods. Ø Experience with specific techniques for the detection of galaxy clusters at intermediate/high redshift. Position Requirements: The successful applicant must have a solid background on observational astronomy, data processing of optical/IR images, and the observational study of galaxies clusters. Qualification Requirements: To be eligible for admission, applicants must have completed a Ph.D. degree in Astrophysics or Physics, within the application deadline (June 30th, 2016). A copy of your degree or corresponding stamped certificate (issued on behalf of the University where you have obtained the degree), must be included. If the applicant has not completed the Ph.D. degree within the application deadline, will not be considered. Training: Those candidates who have done their PhD research at the IAC must have undertaken a period of training at other research centres. This period must consist of either one continuous year or 18 accumulated months (including periods of training during their doctoral period). Duration: The appointment will be for a period of 1 year. The starting date is expected to be during 2016. Remuneration: The gross annual salary is 32,886 Euros, subject to up to 20% tax and Social Security deductions (depending on the personal situation of the candidate). Medical insurance under the Spanish National Health Service will be provided for the candidate and will also cover spouse or registered partner (de facto partner) and children (if relevant). Relocation allowance: This call includes a relocation allowance only for the selected candidate comprising: the cost of your flight ticket (booked and issued by the IAC), your stay for up to two weeks (organised by the IAC) and per diem rate up to two weeks. The maximum IAC will reimburse is 2,000 Euros. Non-UE citizens: If you are citizen of a country not belonging to the European Union, you can apply for this position, but if selected, you will not be allowed to sign the contract with the IAC until you obtain the compulsory documentation required to live and work in Spain (NIE card). The CV, publication list, statements of research and suitability for the Job and copy of your Ph.D. degree, must be converted into a single PDF file. Late applications or those which do not include the mandatory application form (Annex I), will not be considered for admission. Incomplete applications will have a period of five (5) days, starting from the day after publication of the provisional list of accepted and excluded candidates, to provide missing documentation. Reference letters must be sent directly by the referees through the on-line application system (the system will automatically contact these scientists you named, asking them to submit their letters of reference), before June 30th, 2016. Those submitted by e-mail will not be considered nor those sent directly by the applicant. Tareas: La persona seleccionada llevará a cabo su investigación en uno o varios de los siguientes campos: Ø Llevar a cabo el programa de observaciones, el procesado y análisis de las imágenes ópticas y de la espectroscopía para el estudio de los nuevos cúmulos de galaxias detectados por el satélite Planck. El programa observacional asociados es 128MULTIPLE-16/15B. Ø Desarrollar herramientas específicas para la identificación de los nuevos cúmulos de galaxias en imágenes ópticas: sobredensidades, cortes en color-magnitud, distribuciones espaciales, determinaciones de redshifts; Ø Aplicar estas herramientas a las imágenes ópticas e infrarrojas para el seguimiento de nuevos cúmulos Planck; aplicar también estas herramientas a imágenes de archivo de cúmulos de galaxias. Ø Participar en los grupos de trabajo científicos de preparación para los surveys de WEAVE. Ø Participar en los grupos de trabajo científicos de la misión espacial Euclid. Se valorará especialmente la experiencia en: Ø Experiencia observacional con telescopios ópticos e infrarrojos; Ø Experiencia en el procesado de imágenes ópticas e infrarrojas y espectroscopía; Ø Experiencia observacional en el estudio de los cúmulos de galaxias y/o galaxias rojas luminosas; Ø Experiencia en el uso de los métodos de estimación del redshift fotométrico; Ø Experiencia con técnicas específicas para la detección de cúmulos de galaxias a redshift intermedio/alto. Cualificaciones: El candidato seleccionado deberá tener una base sólida en Astronomía Observacional, procesado de imágenes en óptico/infrarrojo, y estudio observacional de cúmulos de galaxias. Requisitos: Para ser admitidos en el proceso selectivo, se deberá estar en posesión del Grado de Doctor en Astrofísica o Física en la fecha de cierre del plazo de presentación (30 de Junio de 2016). Se incluirá copia del título de Doctor o certificado (expedido por la Universidad donde se ha obtenido dicho título) junto a la solicitud. No haber finalizado el doctorado en plazo, será un motivo de exclusión en el proceso de selección. Formación: Si el doctorado se ha realizado en el IAC, se deberá acreditar un periodo de formación complementaria en otros Centros de Investigación. Dicho periodo se cifra en un año continuado o en 18 meses acumulados (incluyendo periodos de formación durante el doctorado). Duración: El contrato tendrá una duración de 1 año. La fecha de incorporación tendrá lugar durante el 2016. Remuneración: El salario íntegro anual será de 32.886 €, con retenciones en nómina de hasta un 20 % en concepto de IRPF y Seguridad Social (dependiendo de la situación personal del candidato). Asimismo, el contrato incluye el alta en la Seguridad Social del cónyuge o pareja de hecho e hijos. Ayuda de Incorporación: Se incluye en la presente convocatoria una ayuda de incorporación que sólo la persona seleccionada podrá disfrutar y que comprende los siguientes conceptos: billete de avión (tramitado desde el IAC), estancia en hotel por un máximo de dos semanas y reservado desde el IAC, y manutención por un total de dos semanas, no pudiendo superar esta ayuda la cantidad de 2.000 Euros. Solicitantes no pertenecientes a la UE: Solicitantes no pertenecientes a un país de la Unión Europea deben tener en cuenta que aunque pueden presentarse, en caso de obtener la plaza, no podrán suscribir el contrato con el IAC hasta la concesión de la documentación reglamentaria para residir y trabajar en España (tarjeta del NIE). El CV, lista de publicaciones, memoria de la actividad investigadora, justificación de su adecuación al puesto y certificación de estar en posesión del Grado de Doctor deberán enviarse en un único fichero en formato PDF. No se admitirán solicitudes presentadas fuera de plazo o que no incluyan el modelo de formulario Anexo I (único documento preceptivo NO subsanable) quedando definitivamente excluido de este proceso de selección. Las solicitudes que estén incompletas dispondrán de 5 días hábiles, desde la publicación de la lista provisional de solicitudes Admitidas y Excluida, para subsanar. Las cartas de recomendación serán enviadas directamente por las personas elegidas como Referees a través de esta aplicación (el sistema enviará automáticamente un mensaje a las personas designadas como Referees en cada candidatura, solicitándoles que envíen su carta), antes del 30 de Junio de 2016. No se aceptarán las referencias enviadas por correo electrónico ni tampoco las enviadas directamente por la persona solicitante. Dado que es obligatorio el envío de dos cartas de recomendación, sugerimos que incluya el nombre de tres Referees por si acaso alguno de ellos no pudiese enviar su carta, y en este caso su solicitud quedaría excluida del proceso de selección.
