Well the way I did it was; I ripped off the metal grill and then unscrewed the screws around the subwoofer. This method works for me every time, but I think people have gotten in from the back by taking the amp off. If you don't mind losing the grill I'd suggest going from the front.

It's not hard to take out from the back where the AMP is and this allows you to keep the case looking good. First you need to unscrew all of the screws on the back inside the heat sink and around it. Then push in slightly on the speaker outputs and the power switch, they will fall into the case. Next get two screwdrivers- a small one and a medium sized one. Start to pry the heat sink with the small one then slide the medium one in after you get it to budge a little. Next you apply pressure with the medium one and the whol back should come loose. You're not actually taking the heat sink off, only using it to get the back to loosen up. Now you can get inside...

We just had to open a Z560 sub after a piece of candy found its way though the air port. The above directions helped very much, but note: You don't need to remove the screws from the heat sink backing. It's unnecessary and HELL to get back on. Just remove the perimeter screws, and the screws adjacent the speaker terminals. Press the speaker terminal into the case. Then, no screwdriver prying is necessary; just put your fingers though the hole that the speaker terminals were in, an pull. Hard. There ARE wires with little slack connecting from the backing so don't break em. Good luck, David

Anyone know if you can remove the front grill, errr... non-destructively?? I have a loose wire on the driver itself that i can't reach without taking it out, or possibly removing the plastic port thing. Somebody at logitech must've had fun with a hot glue gun! These things seem to be built with no thought given to being repairable.

Ok, well after about two hours, I figured it out. What you have to do is get a small flat blade screwdriver and stick it between the metal grill and the silver plastic trim ring. Use it to kinda pry the bottom of the metal grill away from the plastic ring. Don't use too much force; you're just trying to break it loose from a bit of glue and bend the metal grill inward a bit. I think there is only glue at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, but you should do this about every inch, all the way around it. Once you've got it loose, you should be able to pull the metal grill out. It helps if you can get a large paperclip or small nail and bend that at about a 90 degree angle or so to stick through the grill and be able to pull it out. After that, you can unscrew the eight screws holding the speaker and trim ring down. If all you're doing is trying to get something out of the box, I recommend following the directions posted above and just take the back panel off. But DON'T take the heat sink off! Just undo the perimeter screws and the speaker connector ones, if necessary, because it will be fairly hard to pull the panel off. Well, I hope this info helps someone else. :-)

Wohoo!! Took me 2 hours but i did it. The advice here i found very helpful.
I thought this was going to be impossible, but it worked great once i figured it out. I found my sub was particularily stubourn, and just wanking on the hole left by the speaker terminals was not enough. I kinda use the screwdriver technique, except with a bunch of knives. I used a really thin knife to open up a gap between the panel and the heat sink, then put in pregressivley larger knives ( like 2 more knives) to make sure i had a good grip, then I used the last knife as a lever to pop the panel off. tanks everyone for the advice!

thank god i found this thread the other week. This is what I did, undo the surround screws, including the ones for the connectors. And left the HS ones alone. I pushed the connectors in, which left a slot. Then I put in a combination wrench into the slot and then rotated the wrench 90 degrees and PULLED. The sucker came out painlessly. Do watch out for the short wires though. Luckily I did not destroy anything. I had to do it cuz the speaker wire terminals were falling apart. I plan on redoing this with banana jacks.
