Palestina (bahasa Arab: Filasīn , Falasīn , Filisīn ; bahasa Yunani: , Palaistinē; bahasa Latin: Palaestina; bahasa Ibrani: Palestina) adalah sebuah wilayah di Timur Tengah antara Laut Tengah dan Sungai Yordan. Nama "Palestina" digunakan oleh penulis-penulis Yunani Kuno, dan kemudian digunakan untuk provinsi Romawi Syria Palaestina, provinsi Romawi Timur Palaestina Prima dan provinsi Umayyah dan Abbasiyah Jund Filastin. Wilayah ini juga dikenal sebagai Tanah Israel (bahasa Ibrani: Eretz-Yisra'el), Tanah Suci, Levant Selatan , Cisjordan, dan secara historis dikenal dengan namanama lainnya seperti Kanaan, Suriah Selatan dan Kerajaan Yerusalem. Terletak di lokasi yang strategis, di antara Mesir, Suriah dan Jazirah Arab, dan tempar lahirnya Agama Yahudi dan Kekristenan, wilayah ini mempunyai sejarah yang panjang dan riuh sebagai persimpangan untuk agama, budaya, peradagangan dan politik. Wilayah ini telah dikuasai oleh berbagai bangsa, yaitu: Orang Mesir Kuno, Orang Kanaan, Bani Israil, Orang Assyiria, Orang Babilonia, Orang Farsi, Orang Yunani Kuno, Orang Romawi, Orang Romawi Timur, Kekhalifahan Arab Sunni, Kekhalifahan Fatimiyah Syi'ah, Orang Salibi, Ayyubiyyah, Mamluk, Turki Utsmani, Orang Britania, Orang Israel modern dan Bangsa Palestina. Batas-batas dari wilayah ini selalu berubah sepanjang sejarah, dan terakhir kali ditetapkan pada zaman modern oleh Persetujuan batas Perancis-Britania (1920) dan Nota Transyordania (tanggal 16 September 1922), selama periode Mandat Palestina. Sekarang, wilayah ini terdiri dari Negara Israel dan Negara Palestina.

Batas-batas Negara Palestina (Tepi Barat
Istilah Peleset (Transliterasi dari Hieroglif Mesir sebagai P-r-s-t) ditemukan di dan Jalur Gaza) berbagai dokumen Mesir yang merujuk kepada sebuah bangsa atau tanah yang berdekatan, bermula dari sekitar tahun 1150 SM selama Dinasti kedua puluh Mesir. Penyebutan pertama diperkirakan ada di dalam teks-teks dari Kuil Medinet Habu, yang merekam sebuah bangsa yang disebut Peleset ada di antara Bangsa Laut, yang menyerbu Mesir pada masa berkuasanya [[Ramses III], kemudian diikuti oleh sebuah ukiran pada Patung Padiiset. Orang Assyria menyebut wilayah ini sebagai Palashtu atau Pilistu, dimulai Adad-nirari III pada Lempeng Nimrod sekitar tahun 800 SM, sampai kaisar Sargon II, dalam hikayatnya sekitar 1 abad setelah Lempeng Nimrod.

Palestina terletak di bagian barat benua Asia yang membentang antara garis lintang meridian 15-34 dan 40-35 ke arah timur, dan antara garis lintang meridian 30-29 dan 15-33 ke arah utara. Palestina membentuk bagian tenggara dari kesatuan geografis yang besar di belahan timur dunia Arab yang disebut dengan negeri Syam. Selain Palestina, negeri Syam terdiri dari Lebanon, Suriah dan Yordania. Pada awalnya negara-negara ini punya perbatasan yang kolektif di luar perbatasannya dengan Mesir. Perbatasan Palestina dimulai dari Lebanon di Ras El-Nakoura di wilayah Laut Tengah (Laut Mediterania) dan dengan garis lurus mengarah ke timur sampai ke daerah di dekat kota kecil Lebanon yaitu kota Bent Jubayel, di mana garis pemisah antara kedua negara ini miring ke Utara dengan sudut yang hampir lurus. Pada titik ini, perbatasan berada mengitari mata air Sungai Yordan yang menjadi bagian dari Palestina dalam jalan kecil yang membatasinya dari wilayah Timur dengan wilayah Suriah dan danau Al Hola, Lout dan Tabariyya. Perbatasan dengan Yordania dimulai di wilayah selatan danau Tabariyya pada pembuangan sungai Al Yarmouk. Terus sepanjang Sungai Yordan. Dari mata air Sungai Yordan, perbatasan ini ke arah Selatan membelah pertengahan Laut Mati secara geometrikal dan lembah Araba, hingga sampai pada daerah Aqaba. Perbatasan dengan Mesir dapat digambarkan dengan garis yang hampir Turki, yang dimuat oleh New York Tribune pada 17 Juni 1917. membentuk garis lurus yang membelah antara daerah semi-pulau Seena dan padang pasir Al Naqab. Perbatasan ini dimulai di Rafah di Laut Tengah hingga sampai ke daerah Taba di Teluk Aqaba. Di bagian Barat, Palestina terletak di sebelah perairan lepas internasional dari Laut Tengah dengan jarak sekitar 250 km dari Ras ElNakoura di belah selatan hingga Rafah di bagian selatan.

Karena lokasinya terletak di pertengahan negaraTopografi Palestima negara Arab, Palestina membentuk kombinasi geografis yang natural dan humanistik bagi medan terestrial yang luas yang memuat kehidupan orangorang asli Badui di wilayah selatan dan gaya pendudukan yang sudah lama di bagian utara. Tanah Palestina punya keistimewaan dibanding dengan Masjid di Palestina daerah lain karena merupakan bagian dari tempat diturunkannya semua agama samawi, tempat di mana peradaban kuno muncul, menjadi jembatan aktivitas komersial dan tempat penyusupan ekspedisi militer di sepanjang era bersejarah yang berbeda. Lokasi strategis yang dinikmati Palestina memungkinkannya untuk menjadi faktor penghubung antara berbagai benua bagi dunia kuno Asia, Afrika dan Eropa. Palestina juga menjadi tempat yang dijadikan pintu masuk bagi perjalanan ke Koin Tribahasa Palestina negara-negara tetangga. Ia menjadi jembatan penghubung bagi manusia sejak dahulu kala, sebagaimana ia juga menikmati lokasi sentral (Pusat) yang memikat sebagian orang yang mau bermukim dan hidup dalam kemakmuran.
