You ARE OUR FOUNDATION.

KOURAGE KIDS CAMP

THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO.

Grieving children often feel alone because they may not know anyone their age who has experienced the death of a family member or friend. Grief comes in “waves” for children. Support can help your child whether it has been just weeks, several months, or even years since the loss.

What we accomplished together during 2016 • $1.7 million raised in support of the Foundation and its role in delivering outstanding healthcare

For 17 years, Kourage Kids camp offers children and teens a day of support and fun. Thanks to a grant from the UnityPoint Health – Methodist | Proctor Foundation, Kourage Kids grief camp is provided free of charge by UnityPoint Hospice - Peoria to children who have lost a loved one.

• Granted $2.95 million by the Foundation within the organization • 11 external grants from private foundations and the government were received • Raised $156,765 in new scholarship funds to support Methodist College Students • 191 New donors primarily acquired through the grateful patient program

Stephanie lost her mom to skin cancer at the age of 4. The following year, she and her siblings attended Kourage Kids camp for the first time. She remembers riding horses, signing t-shirts of fellow campers and being able to talk to others who could relate. They went on to attend camp for several more years.

Methodist College Expansion Campaign • Completed having raised $1.2 Million

Assisting Our Employees in times of crisis

When Stephanie was in 8th grade, she needed some volunteer hours for confirmation so she contacted Kourage Kids Camp about becoming a volunteer counselor. “I wanted to volunteer because losing my mom was hard, but channeling it in a way to help others made my experience worth it.”

• 40 approved applications provided $57,065.38

Enhancing Patient Care

Frank Valente, from UnityPoint Health- Peoria Hospice, said “it’s not common for kids to come back and volunteers, but Stephanie was an exception. She was very mature and wanted to give back. We worked with her parents to make sure she was ready for the opportunity and she did an excellent job.” Stephanie volunteered for 4 years, before relocating with her family to Florida.

• Skilled nursing expansion $1,500,000 • Hand-hygiene monitoring systems $231,000 • Direct primary care clinic start up $110,000

“Being a younger counselor, children could relate to me a little more. I remember one super quiet boy grabbed my hand and asked me to sit next to him. When I did he said, my mom died, that was him opening up to me and it was meaningful and rewarding.”

• Vivid boards for family medical clinic exam rooms $14,600 • Emergency Department Mobile Integrated Care Pilot $11,000 • Nursing education $5,000

Stephanie is an adult now, working full time and set to begin college this spring and continuing to make an impact on the community in Florida, but she is thankful for the things that Kourage Kids camp taught her.

• Cell charging kiosks for family and patient waiting areas $2,850

Thank you to the Foundation for providing a grant to support Kourage Kids Camp.
