Call to Artists in the DMV Area People Are Not Products benefit exhibition. By Central Virginia Justice Initiative @ Verizon Gallery, The Ernst Community Cultural Center, Annandale Campus, NOVA. Central Virginia Justice Initiative (CVJI), an all volunteer, faith based, 501(c)[3] is accepting entries for the People Are Not Products benefit exhibition. The purpose of this exhibition is to depict public perceptions vs. the reality of human trafficking, its exploitation of vulnerabilities in the US and beyond. Subject matter may include anything from entry—lures, lies, force or coercion, to daily survival—coping, hoping and/or giving up, to exit—freedom, ruin and/or restoration. Since 2012, Virginia, Maryland and D.C have ranked in the top 25 for human trafficking cases reported, more often in the top 10. See statistics at www.humantraffickinghotline.org. Artists are encouraged to click on the link to Human Trafficking Resources for Artists, on the front page. Requirements Artists must be residents of the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia. Artwork relating directly or indirectly to human trafficking (slavery in the form of labor or sex trafficking) is encouraged. Please do not submit work that is sexually graphic in nature. All work must be for sale. All work must be dry, ready to hang or be displayed. All work will be shown for 1 month or longer. When sending submission, please include: -Bio and/or artist statement -List of Works (title, medium, size dimensions, date, price). Descriptions are optional. -Maximum 10 images per artist. JPEG file with minimum 240 dpi. -Please try to organize file names so that they correspond with your list of works. Example: 1_lastname_firstname_title 2_lastname_firstname_title Details If a piece sells on Opening Night: The artist will receive 50 percent of the total sale of their work. CVJI will receive 50 percent commission of sale on Opening Night. If a piece sells after Opening Night: The artist will receive 50 percent commission of sale. CVJI will receive 30 percent commission of sale. NOVA will receive 20 percent commission of sale. EXHIBITION TIMELINE: Submission Deadline: Aug.15, 2017 Artists’ Notification of Acceptance: Sept. 5, 2017 Artwork must be received by: Oct.15, 2017 Opening Reception: Nov. 3, 2017 Exhibition Closes: Dec. 29, 2017 Begin Artwork Pickup: Jan. 2, 2017 Drop-off and pick-up dates in Baltimore, D.C.
