Honrar a memória A Seleção Nacional sub-19 participa no Campeonato da Europa Alemanha-2016 com um conjunto de jogadores que já deu provas de inequívoca qualidade, força, caráter e dedicação em prol do país. O otimismo em relação à participação desta equipa no importante torneio que vai decorrer em solo alemão não é um ato de fé, mas sim uma expectativa realista e sustentada no rendimento que os sub-19 apresentaram até aqui. Afinal, estes são os mesmos jogadores que perderam apenas um jogo oficial, marcando 36 golos e sofrendo apenas 5 entre fases de qualificação e fases finais de grandes competições (sub-17 e sub-19). No apuramento para a Alemanha, os números falam igualmente por si: cinco vitórias e apenas um empate consentido, deixando pelo caminho seleções como a Rússia, Suécia ou Grécia. Sei que a comitiva nacional saberá honrar a memória de todos os que defenderam as cores da Equipa das Quinas em Europeus sub-18 e sub-19. Somos uma nação prestigiada, que já conquistou três títulos de juniores e que ambiciona chegar sempre mais além. Enfrentamos este desafio como outros antes o enfrentaram. Os bravos Campeões da Europa de 1961, os primeiros a conquistar um título internacional para Portugal, antecederam talentos da craveira de Simão Sabrosa, Dani, Nuno Gomes, Ricardo Costa ou Duda, que também souberam chegar ao topo da Europa no escalão sub-18. São estes campeões, entre outros, que transmitiram o testemunho com que a equipa liderada por Emílio Peixe, ele próprio Campeão do Mundo de sub-20 em 1991, vai tentar cruzar a meta. To honour the memory Portugal é, de novo, uma marca registada a nível internacional como ficou bem patente na recente conquista do título de Campeão Europeu de sub-17 do Azerbaijão, nas excelentes participações da Seleção Nacional sub-19 nos Campeonatos da Europa de 2013 e 2014 ou no escalão de sub-20, onde temos três participações consecutivas na Fase Final do Mundial (2011, 2013 e 2015). Com a qualificação para o Campeonato do Mundo sub-20 Coreia do Sul-2017 em vista e, principalmente, com a certeza que os sub-19 tudo farão para honrar Portugal, constatamos o sucesso da aposta da Federação em repensar estruturalmente a formação do jovem jogador português. Atletas, treinadores, clubes e associações são credores do agradecimento da FPF pelo trabalho conjunto realizado em prol do futebol português. Se o ano de 2016 já nos deu grandes alegrias, queremos ir ainda mais além. The National Under-19 Team participates in the 2016 European Championship in Germany with a set of players that have already undeniably proven their quality, strength, character and commitment in favour of the country. The optimism about the participation of this team in the important tournament which will be taking place in the German territory is not an act of faith, but a realistic expectation based on the performance of the Under-19 team so far. After all, these are the same players who lost only one official match, having scored 36 goals and conceded only 5 in qualifying stages and final rounds of great competitions (Under-17 and Under-19). In the qualification for Germany, the figures also speak for themselves: five victories and only one draw, having knocked out teams as Russia, Sweden and Greece. I know the national delegation will know how to honour the memory of all those who defended the national colours in European Under-18 and Under-19 championships. We are a prestigious nation, which already conquered three titles in youth football and which always aspires to reach further. We face this challenge as others before did. The brave 1961 European Champions, the first ones to conquer an international title for Portugal, preceded talents such as Simão Sabrosa, Dani, Nuno Gomes, Ricardo Costa or Duda, who also knew how to reach the top of Europe in the Under-18 category. These are, among others, the champions who passed the baton to the team which, led by Emílio Peixe, also World Under-20 Champion himself in 1991, will try to cross the finishing line. Identity is again a trademark at the international level as it was manifest in the recent conquest of the European Under-17 Champion in Azerbaijan, in the excellent participations of the National Under-19 Team in the 2013 and 2014 European Championships or in the Under-20 category, with consecutive participations in the Final Round of the World Cup (2011, 2013 e 2015). With the qualification for the 2017 World Under-20 Cup in South Korea and, above all, with the certainty that the Under-19 will do their utmost to honour Portugal, we confirm the success of the Federation’s investment in the structural renovation of the training of Portuguese young player. Players, coaches, clubs and associations deserve the gratefulness from the FPF for the joint work made in favour of Portuguese football. It’s true that the year 2016 has already brought us great joy, but we want to go further. The Under-19 team’s campaign in the 2016 European Championship in Germany will be followed with the usual patriotic fervour by the people of our country and I have no doubt that the Portuguese community in Germany will cherish, as they always do, our young international players. The mission won’t be easy, but I am sure that the commitment, quality and joy at work that charecterises this team will have in the German pitches a privileged stage to show their merit. Fernando Gomes tem uma história de mais de 40 anos de ligação ao desporto e mais de 20 como dirigente de topo. Depois de uma curta experiência no basquetebol, assumiu a vice-presidência do FC Porto, onde desempenhou funções ligadas ao futebol, ao marketing e à gestão financeira. A experiência de dirigente foi reforçada pela sua participação intensiva em organismos internacionais como o Comité de Competições da UEFA e da FIFA, o Comité de Gestão do Fórum Europeu de Clubes e a Associação Europeia de Clubes (ECA), onde ocupou diferentes cargos ao longo dos últimos dez anos. Em Portugal, foi Presidente da Liga de Clubes de Futebol Profissional e Vice-Presidente da FPF. Em maio de 2013, Fernando Gomes integrou, na UEFA, a Comissão de Acompanhamento do Campeonato da Europa de Futebol de 2016 e foi nomeado membro do Comité Executivo da UEFA, na qualidade de “conselheiro especial” do presidente Michel Platini. Em 2015, depois de ser o membro mais votado nas eleições, Fernando Gomes tornou-se membro do Comité Executivo da UEFA. Em 2016 será candidato único à reeleição para o cargo de Presidente da FPF.

Fernando Gomes has been involved in sport for over four decades and has been a senior director for the last 20 years. After a brief incursion into the world of basketball, he became Vice President of FC Porto where he performed roles linked to football, marketing and financial management. He deepened his experience as a director through intensive participation in international bodies such as the UEFA and FIFA Club Competitions Committees, the Management Committee of the European Club Forum and the European Club Association (ECA), where he occupied different positions during the last ten years. In Portugal he has been President of the Professional Football League of Clubs and Vice President of the FPF. In May 2013, Fernando Gomes became part of the Monitoring Committee of the 2016 UEFA European Championship and was appointed a member of the UEFA Executive Committee, in the capacity of a “special adviser” to President Michel Platini. In March 2015, Fernando Gomes became officially a member of UEFA Executive Committee after being the most voted member in the elections. In 2016 he will be the sole candidate for reelection as President of the FPF.

A origem do atual Campeonato da Europa sub-19 data de 1948, ano em que foi criado o Torneio de Juniores da FIFA para o escalão sub-18. Sete anos mais tarde (1955) a competição passa para a alçada da UEFA, que a incorpora na lógica de impulsionar uma das suas prioridades: proporcionar aos jovens futebolistas as melhores condições de poderem desenvolver o seu talento. Em 1980, o torneio passa a ter o nome de Campeonato da Europa de sub-18 da UEFA mas é na viragem para o século XXI (2001/2002) que se dá a principal mudança estrutural: o Europeu passou a ser dedicado ao escalão sub-19 devido a alterações nas datas de elegibilidade dos jogadores. A Seleção Nacional sub-19 comandada pelo Treinador Nacional Emílio Peixe defenderá as cores nacionais num Europeu de juniores pela 31.ª vez, na Alemanha, entre os dias 11 e 24 de julho de 2016, numa competição que a Equipa das Quinas já venceu por três vezes (ambas ainda no escalão sub-18). A primeira aconteceu na época 1960/61 e representou a primeira vitória internacional do futebol português. David Sequerra (Selecionador Nacional) e José Maria Pedroto (treinador de campo) lideraram Portugal até à vitória no torneio organizado em solo nacional. Ao empate inicial (0-0) com a Itália, seguiram-se vitórias frente a Inglaterra (4-0) e Espanha (4-1), que deixaram perspetivas otimistas para a final com a Polónia. No Estádio da Luz, os internacionais portugueses fizeram questão de confirmar as melhores expectativas e venceram por 4-0, numa tarde épica de Serafim (marcou todos os golos do jogo, concretizando um “póker”). O segundo triunfo português neste escalão ocorreu na época 1993/94, em Espanha, quando a equipa orientada por Agostinho Oliveira fez um percurso imaculado até à final, vencendo consecutivamente as seleções de França (3-1), Suécia (2-0) e

Abraçou a carreira de treinador, na temporada 2007/08, ao serviço da Federação Portuguesa de Futebol. Comanda neste Europeu sub-19, pela terceira vez, uma Seleção Nacional na fase final de uma grande competição. Em 2013, no Campeonato da Europa sub-19 da Lituânia, Emílio Peixe comandou uma Equipa das Quinas que mostrou o perfume do seu futebol rendilhado e tecnicista, sendo apenas eliminada nas meias-finais, frente à Sérvia (2-2 no final do prolongamento), no desempate através da marca de grande penalidade. Logo no ano seguinte, em 2014, o Treinador Nacional levou os sub-17 à fase final do Europeu de Malta, onde Portugal deixou a impressão de uma equipa cheia de garra e talento. A eliminação das meias-finais, perante a Inglaterra (0-2), teve sabor a injustiça. Agora, a geração de 1997 vai tentar honrar novamente o futebol jovem português.

He took up a career as coach in the 2007/08 season, at the service of Portuguese Football Federation. He directs in this European Under-19 Championship, for the third time, a national Team in the final round of a great competition. In 2013, in the European U-19 Championship in Lithuania, Emílio Peixe led a National Team that showed the perfume of its football, both dribbling and trimmed with lace, having been knocked out only in the semi-finals by Serbia (2-2 in the end of extra time), in the penalty shoot-out. Right in the following year, in 2014, the National Head Coach took the Under-17 Team to the final round of the European Championship in Malta, where Portugal left the impression of a team full of talent and that went all out. Knock-out in the semi-finals, against England (0-2), tasted unfair. Now, the generation of 1997 will try to honour once again the Portuguese youth football.

Futebolista respeitado ao longo de toda a carreira ao mais alto nível, cedo começou a revelar as características de médio recuperador, destacando-se não só pela solidariedade com a defesa mas também pela capacidade técnica que lhe permitia muitas vezes iniciar a construção de jogo ofensivo a partir da posição “6”. Fez parte da chamada “Geração de Ouro” do futebol português, sagrando-se Campeão Mundial sub-20 em Lisboa (1991), torneio em que foi considerado pela FIFA como o melhor jogador. Ao serviço das seleções nacionais, Emílio Peixe cumpriu 12 internacionalizações A (entre 12 de outubro de 1991 e 13 de outubro de 1993) e 84 em todos os escalões – estreou-se nos sub-16 em fevereiro de 1988. Em 1989, capitaneou a Equipa das Quinas no Europeu sub-17 da Dinamarca, que Portugal acabou por vencer, batendo a RDA por 4-1. O antigo internacional marcou presença nos Jogos Olímpicos de Atlanta, em 1996, onde a Seleção Nacional se classificou na quarta posição, além de ter estado cinco fases finais de grandes competições (dois Europeus de sub-16, Mundial sub-17, Europeu sub-18 e Mundial sub-20). Emílio Peixe iniciou a sua carreira de futebolista no clube da terra, o GD “Os Nazarenos”, mas depressa revelou o talento que o levou a ir para Lisboa para representar o Sporting CP, em 1986, onde jogou nos vários escalões até chegar a sénior. Com a camisola dos “leões” venceu uma Taça de Portugal e uma Supertaça, em 1995, e no final dessa época rumou a Sevilha, regressando a Alvalade na abertura da época de transferências. Em 1997 assinou pelo FC Porto, onde até 2002 venceu duas Ligas, uma Taça de Portugal e três Supertaças. Seguiram-se as passagens pelo Alverca FC, SL Benfica e UD Leiria, onde deu por concluída a sua carreira de futebolista em 2004.

The former international player participated in the Olympic Games of Atlanta, in 1996, where the National Team qualified in the fourth position, besides he was in five final rounds of great competitions (two European Under-16 championships, World Under-17 Cup, European Under-18 Championship and World Under-20 Cup). Emílio Peixe started his career as a football player in the local club, o GD “Os Nazarenos”, but he soon showed the talent that took him to Lisbon to represent Sporting CP, in 1986, where he played in the various categories until he reached the senior team. With the Sporting CP shirt he won a Portugal Cup and Super Cup, in 1995, and in the end of that season he went to Seville, having returned to Alvalade (Sporting) in the opening of the transfer window. In 1997 he signed for FC Porto, where until 2002 he won two Leagues, one Portugal Cup and three Super Cups. Then came the spells at Alverca FC, SL Benfica and UD Leiria, where he ended his career as a football player in 2004.

FILIPE RAMOS

Joaquim Alberto da Costa Milheiro e Silva nasceu em Santa Maria da Feira, a 8 de fevereiro de 1979. A sua preparação teórica inclui uma Licenciatura em Futebol de Alto Rendimento e um Mestrado em Educação Física e Desporto, para além dos cursos de I, II e III nível de treinadores em Portugal e do Curso Nacional de Treinadores no Estado de S. Paulo. Antes de chegar à Federação Portuguesa de Futebol (2011), acumulou vasta experiência em território nacional (escalões de formação de Feirense e FC Porto) e no estrangeiro, nomeada-mente em Angola (Inter Clube de Luanda), Marrocos (Raja Casablanca) e Roménia (Vaslui), sempre na condição de treinador adjunto ou metodólogo de treino colaborando com os treinadores Augusto Inácio e Carlos Mozer. Depois de conquistas importantes como os títulos de campeão nacional pelos sub-15 e sub-19 do FC Porto, continuou a enriquecer o currículo ao serviço das diversas Equipas das Quinas. Destacam-se as presenças como treinador-adjunto no Campeonato do Mundo de sub-20, em 2011 (vicecampeão) na Colombia, 2013 (oitavos de final) na Turquia e 2015 (quartos de final) na Nova Zelândia e nas fases finais dos Campeonatos da Europa sub-19 (meias-finais em 2013 e final em 2014, e Fase Final na Alemanha ainda por realizar, em 2016) e sub-17 (meias finais em 2014, e Fase Final no Azerbaijão, ainda por disputar, em 2016). Treinador experiente e académico reputado, foi recentemente nomeado Coordenador Metodológico de todas as Seleções Nacionais de Formação da FPF, de S15 a S20.

Filipe Manuel Esteves Ramos nasceu em Luanda (Angola) a 21 de abril de 1970. A carreira como jogador começou no GDU Ericeirense (1984/85), mas foi no Torreense (1985/86 a 1988/89) que cumpriu uma das etapas mais importantes do seu percurso, começando a destacar-se pelas qualidades que o levaram a ser unanimemente considerado como um dos médios mais fiáveis da chamada “Geração de Ouro” do futebol português. O Sporting estava atento e contratou-o em 1989/90, contando durante sete temporadas (1996/96) com a raça de um centrocampista que tinha no seu pé esquerdo um aliado de luxo para competir por um lugar ao sol (tanto no clube como na seleção) com nomes como Oceano, Paulo Sousa, Carlos Manuel, Carlos Xavier e Emílio Peixe. Pelos leões conquistou a Taça de Portugal 1994/95, tendo somado posteriormente passagens por emblemas como Marítimo (1996/87), Vitória SC (1997/98), Desp. Chaves (1998/99), Naval 1.º de Maio (1999/2000) e Atlético (2000/2001), realizando as últimas três épocas no Mafra (entre as épocas 2002/2003 e 2004/2005). Ao serviço das seleções jovens portuguesas somou 26 internacionalizações, tendo-se sagrado Campeão do Mundo de sub-20 em Riade (1989) e vice-campeão da Europa sub-18 em 1988 (Checoslováquia). Começou a acumular experiência como treinador no Mafra (entre 2005/2006 e 2008/2009) e no Real Massamá (2009/2010) antes de iniciar a sua ligação à Federação Portuguesa de Futebol (2010/2011), onde se tornou Treinador Nacional nas seleções de formação. Filipe Ramos é detentor do curso de treinador de nível V.

His theoretical preparation includes a degree in High Performance Football and a Master in Physical Education and Sport, besides he completed the level I, II and III courses in Portugal and the Coaching National Course in the State of S. Paulo, Brazil. Before arriving at the Portuguese Football Federation (2011), he accumulated a wide experience in the national territory (youth categories at Feirense and FC Porto) and abroad, in particular in Angola (Inter Clube de Luanda), Morocco (Raja Casablanca) and Romania (Vaslui), always as assistant coach or training methodologist, cooperating with coaches Augusto Inácio and Carlos Mozer. After important conquests, such as the titles of national Under-15 and Under-19 champion with FC Porto, he continued to enrich his curriculum at the service of various National Teams. In May this year, he became European Under-17 Champion in Azerbaijan, having actively taken part as a member of the national coaching team in the conquest of the first international tournament of national youth teams conquered by Portugal since 2003. Also remarkable is his participation as assistant coach in the World Under-20 Cup, in 2011 (vice-champion) in Colombia, 2013 (round of sixteen) in Turkey and 2015 (quarter finals) in New Zealand and in the final rounds of European Under-19 Championships (semi-finals in 2013 and final in 2014) and European Under-17 Championship (semi-finals in 2014). An experienced coach and a renowned academic, he was recently appointed Methodological Coordinator of all Development National Teams of the FPF, from Under-15 to Under-20.

PEDRO ROMA Pedro Miguel da Mota Roma nasceu a 13 de agosto de 1970, em Pombal (Portugal). Licenciado em Ciências do Desporto pela FCDEF-Coimbra, pós-graduado em Treino Funcional pela Universidade Lusófona e detentor dos cursos UEFA A e UEFA PRO, iniciou a sua ligação à Federação Portuguesa de Futebol em 2010 para abraçar as funções de treinador de guarda-redes da Seleção Nacional A feminina. A partir de 2011 passou a treinador de guarda-redes dos escalões de formação das seleções nacionais de futebol masculino (entre os sub-15 e os sub-21), que mantém até ao presente. Enquanto futebolista, a elasticidade e a sagacidade de Pedro Roma entre os postes fizeram-no figurar sempre entre o lote dos guardiões mais seguros da sua geração. A ligação de década e meia (entre 1985 e 1991, em 1995-96 e entre 1996 e 2009) à Académica de Coimbra, em que defendeu as cores dos estudantes enquanto concluía a sua licenciatura, será sempre uma imagem de marca do seu percurso. Para além de simbolizar um “modus vivendi” (conciliar futebol com estudos) que os adeptos da Briosa aprenderam a valorizar desde a fundação do clube, fazia parte da equipa que conseguiu subir à Primeira Divisão depois de uma interrupção de 10 anos (1996/97) e era um dos esteios da equipa de Coimbra numa época de consolidação no primeiro escalão do futebol nacional (entre o final do séc. XX e o início do séc.XXI). Pedro Roma teve também passagens relevantes por SC Pombal, onde “nasceu” para o futebol (dos iniciados aos juvenis, entre 1982 e 1985), Benfica (entre 1992/93 e 1995/96) e Gil Vicente (1993/1994). A passagem pelos encarnados acrescentou-lhe ao palmarés a Taça de Portugal 1995/96. O Treinador Nacional somou ainda duas internacionalizações no escalão sub-21.

Pedro Miguel da Mota Roma was born on 13th August 1970, in Pombal (Portugal). He has a degree in Sciences of Sport by FCDEF-Coimbra, a post-graduation in Functional Training by Universidade Lusófona and has completed UEFA A and UEFA PRO courses. He started his connection with the Portuguese Football Federation in 2010 assuming the function as goalkeeper’s coach of the A Women’s National Team. In 2011 he became goalkeeper’s coach of the youth categories of the men’s football national teams (from Under-15 to Under-21), what he still does. As a football player, elasticity and sagacity of Pedro Roma between the posts made him always figure among the set of most secure goalkeepers of his generation. The connection lasting one decade and a half (between 1985 and 1991, in 1995-96 and between 1996 and 2009) to Académica de Coimbra, where he defended the colours of the students while he concluded his degree, will always be a brand image of his path. Not only did he symbolize a “modus vivendi” (conciliating football with university) that the supporters of the club learnt to value since its foundation, but also was he part of the team that managed to reach the First Division after an interruption of 10 years (1996/97) and was one of the supports of the team from Coimbra in a time the consolidation of the first category of national football (between the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century). Pedro Roma also had significant spells at SC Pombal, where he “was born” for football (from Under-15 to Under-17, between 1982 and 1985), Benfica (between 1992/93 and 1995/96) and Gil Vicente (1993/1994). The spell at Benfica added to his list of achievements a Portugal Cup in 1995/96. The National Coach has also two caps in the Under-21 category.

O caminho que os sub-19 tiveram de percorrer até chegarem ao Campeonato da Europa Alemanha-2016 foi bem mais árduo do que o balanço factual dos resultados deixa transparecer. No I Torneio de Apuramento, disputado em Novembro na zona de Viseu, Portugal começou por vencer a Moldávia pela margem mínima (1-0) com um golo de Francisco Ferreira. No segundo jogo, frente à Lituânia, os comandados de Emílio Peixe expressaram a sua superioridade de uma forma mais acentuada com uma vitória concludente, por 5-0, construída através dos golos de João Carvalho, Gonçalo Rodrigues, Buta (2) e Renato Sanches. Mesmo com dois resultados positivos, as decisões ficaram para a terceira e última jornada, com a Equipa das Quinas a não deixar créditos por mãos alheias: no 4-0 frente aos gregos, os marcadores de serviço foram Gonçalo Rodrigues, Rúben Dias, Renato Sanches e Alexandre Silva. Nove golos marcados, zero sofridos e o primeiro lugar do grupo 7 assegurado. O primeiro passo rumo à Alemanha estava dado. No grupo 6 da Ronda de Elite, cujos encontros tiveram lugar na zona de Barcelos, Portugal entrou novamente a ganhar, frente à Suécia (4-0), com golos de Alexandre Silva, Buta (2) e Gonçalo Rodrigues. No jogo que decidia a presença dos sub-19 no Europeu, a Equipa das Quinas bateu a Eslovénia por 3-1 (Rúben Dias, Bruno Costa e Pedro Delgado marcaram para Portugal, Tijanic marcou o golo de honra para os eslovenos) e fez a festa no relvado no Estádio do Rio Ave FC. Estava cumprido um caminho em que as características principais desta geração de jogadores portugueses tinham ficado bem vincadas: esforço, abnegação, caráter e classe totalmente postas em campo ao serviço de Portugal. Nos registos históricos ficam os 17 golos marcados e dois sofridos, com Aurélio Buta a assumir papel especialmente prolífico na frente de ataque, colmo atestam os seus quatro golos em seis partidas (430 minutos).

Five victories and a draw. The path that the Under-19 Team had to make until they arrive at the 2016 European Championship was much harder than the factual balance of results suggests. In the 1st Qualification Tournament, played in November in the region of Viseu, Portugal started by winning against Moldavia by one goal scored by Francisco Ferreira. In the second game, against Lithuania, the players led by Emílio Peixe showed their superiority in a clearer way with a conclusive victory, by 5-0, built with goals by João Carvalho, Gonçalo Rodrigues, Buta (2) and Renato Sanches. Even with two positive results, the decisions were left for the third and last round, the National Team not having good credentials there: in the 4-0 against the Greeks, the scorers on duty were Gonçalo Rodrigues, Rúben Dias, Renato Sanches and Alexandre Silva. Nine goals scored, none conceded and the first place of group 7 guaranteed.

The first step towards Germany was taken. In group 6 of the Elite Round, whose encounters took place in the region of Barcelos, Portugal started winning once again, against Sweden (4-0), with goals by Alexandre Silva, Buta (2) and Gonçalo Rodrigues. Then came the sole draw of the generation from 1997 in matches of qualifications stages for official competitions: the 1-1 draw against Russia (Pedro Delgado at the 41st minute and Obolski at the 90th minute) was a drawback to which the Portuguese players promised to react and they did not dash the expectations. In the match that decided the presence of the Under-19 Team in the Euro, they beat Slovenia by 3-1 (Rúben Dias, Bruno Costa and Pedro Delgado scored for Portugal, Tijanic scored the consolation goal for the Slovene) and they celebrated in the stadium of Rio Ave FC. A path was made where the main features of this generation of Portuguese players had clearly left their marks: effort, abnegation, character and class fully put in place at the service of Portugal. In the historical records the presence of the 17 goals scored and two conceded, with Aurélio Buta assuming a specially a prolific role in the front line, as confirmed by the four goals in six games (430 minutes).

A Áustria conta no seu palmarés com duas vitórias em Campeonatos da Europa de Juniores. A primeira aconteceu quando organizou o torneio em 1950 e bateu a França por 3-2 e a segunda concretizou-se em 1957, ano em que os austríacos conseguiram bater na final a seleção do país-anfitrião, Espanha, também por 3-2. Destaque, ainda, para a participação da Áustria na edição de 1951, em França, onde chegou à final mas foi derrotada pela Jugoslávia por 2-3.

Austria has in its records two victories in European youth championships. The first one happened when they organised the tournament in 1950 and beat France by 3-2 and the second one took place in 1957, when the Austrians managed to beat the host team, Spain, in the final also by 3-2. A special remark also to the participation of Austria in the 1951 edition, in France, where they reached the final but was defeated by Yugoslavia by 2-3.
