POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATES AND DIPLOMAS

MASTER’S BY RESEARCH (MRes)

You can build on your existing knowledge of a subject with a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma. Most courses last from five to nine months full-time, and many are also available part-time. Taught like a Master’s degree, these courses offer an exit early approach leading to a valued professional qualification.

If you have plans to continue your studies to doctoral level (PhD), or embark on a research career, a Master’s by Research (MRes) degree could be for you. With fewer taught elements, these courses place greater emphasis on project work and will equip you with and develop the skills necessary for a research career.

MASTER’S DEGREES

PROFESSIONAL ENTRY COURSES

You can extend your expertise further with a Master’s degree. As well as the taught elements, you will also have to complete a dissertation or project on a related topic of your choice. Full-time Master’s degrees usually involve one year of study, while part-time programmes can last between two and four years.

These courses are specifically designed to prepare you to enter a regulated profession such as law, accounting or teaching. Some of these areas can also be studied at an undergraduate level, but a professional-entry Master’s course is ideal if you want to enter a different field to that of your first degree.

Studying at Leicester really opened doors for me. I decided to study a Master’s degree to help me get to where I wanted to go: a career in space science.

The MSc offered a very good combination of space science and engineering. The course was delivered by leading experts in their field, and the lecturers shared their personal work and research experiences with us, which I found particularly inspiring. Thanks to this course, I am now exactly where I want to be. Cristina MSc Space Exploration Systems, Physics and Astronomy

On occasion it may be necessary to make some alterations to particular aspects of a course or module, and where these are minor, for example altering the lecture timetable or location, then we will ensure that you have as much notice as possible of the change to ensure that the disruption to your studies is minimised. However, in exceptional circumstances it may be necessary for the University to cancel or change a programme or part of the specification more substantially. For example, due to the unavailability of key teaching staff, changes or developments in knowledge or teaching methods, the way in which assessment is carried out, or where a course or part of it is over-subscribed to the extent that the quality of teaching would be affected to the detriment of students. In these circumstances, we will contact you as soon as possible and in any event will give you 25 days written notice before the relevant change is due to take place. 100 years Our history is everyone’s story Born out of a desire to avoid future conflict the University of Leicester has played a vital role in our extended community, and more recently our global community since it officially opened its doors in 1921. But our story began in 1918 when with so many lives having been touched by conflict a decision was made to build a University. Since then our community has entrusted us with educating their sons and daughters and sharing knowledge. A century on we have hundreds of stories to tell.
