Research Challenge The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual, global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Students work in teams to research and analyze a publicly traded company and then write a research report on their assigned company with a buy, sell, or hold recommendation. Each Research Challenge season leverages the efforts of over 140 CFA member societies, 3,500 member volunteers, and more than 5,000 students from over 1,000 universities. How the Research Challenge Works Local level competitions are organized and judged by CFA Institute society members and volunteers who function as local hosts. Local Hosts are responsible for: Securing subject companies Recruiting volunteers (such as team mentors) Inviting universities in their geographic region to participate The winning university team from each local competition advances to one of the three regional competitions. The regional and global competitions are hosted by CFA Institute in the Americas; the Asia Pacific; and the Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions. The winning teams from each regional competition advance to the Global Final, where one team emerges as the global champion of the CFA Institute Research Challenge. Get the fact card (PDF)
Competition Schedule and Locations University teams begin their activities in the fall, with local competitions occurring throughout the world at various times early in the calendar year. Regional competitions and the global final are held in March and April. Event Details
