SEDER SUPPER

With Rabbis Michael & Carol. The Rabbis will lead us through the Jewish Passover Feast that our Lord celebrated with his Apostles and how He changed this Passover Feast into His Last Supper and the Eucharist.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul In today’s Gospel, Jesus heals a man blind from birth. Because he did this on a Sabbath, the Pharisees called Jesus a sinner and ridiculed the man. Who was really blind and would not see the miracle that had been performed? Sometimes, like the Pharisees, we too are so set in our ways and beliefs that we cannot see what God in his great love has given us. We are blind to the needs of others, but instead of ridicule, we can open our eyes and do good deeds with love and care toward our family, working professionally, honestly and charitably. Our way of “seeing” is when we live in the truth that our works may be clearly seen as done in God. Christian living is about being touched by Jesus and in bettering the lives of others. St. Vincent often said: “Let us love God, my brothers, let us love God. But let it be with the strength of our arms and the sweat of our brow.” In this way Christ touches others through us. Through your almsgiving, you are performing a good work; far greater than you think. Your gift to the “Society of St. Vincent de Paul will help the poor to celebrate the grace of God's love this Easter.

ATTENTION: ALL LECTORS On the Third Fourth and Fifth Sundays of Lent, because we have THE ELECT who are going to receive their sacraments of Christian Initiation during Easter, WE WILL BE PROCLAIMING THE CYCLE A READINGS. Heavenly Father, Pour forth your Holy Spirit to inspire me with these words from Holy Scripture.

Stir in my soul the desire to renew my faith and deepen my relationship with your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ so that I might truly believe in and live the Good News.

Open my heart to hear the Gospel and grant me the confidence to proclaim the Good News to others.

Pour out your Spirit, so that I might be strengthened to go forth and witness to the Gospel in my everyday life through my words and actions. In moments of hesitation, remind me: If not me, then who will proclaim the Gospel? If not now, then when will the Gospel be proclaimed? If not the truth of the Gospel, then what shall I proclaim?

God, our Father, I pray that through the Holy Spirit I might hear the call of the New Evangelization to deepen my faith, grow in confidence to proclaim the Gospel and boldly witness to the saving grace of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

From Fr. Chris N.:

This is the Fourth Sunday in Lent. Traditionally this day is known as “Laetare Sunday,” from the Latin word for “Rejoice!” the introductory antiphon for today’s Liturgy, (based on the words of Isaiah 66:10). The antiphon and the readings both express the Church's joy in anticipation of the Resurrection. Today’s readings both remind us that it is God who gives us proper vision in body as well as in soul, and instruct us that we should be constantly on our guard against spiritual blindness. The first reading from the book of Samuel illustrates how blind we are in our judgments and how much we need God’s help. The second Reading extends the light-versus-darkness metaphor leading to the blindness-versus-sight theme of today's gospel. The cure of blindness by Jesus reported in the Gospel teaches us of the necessity of opening of the eyes of the mind by faith and warns us that those who pretend to see the truth are often blind, and those who acknowledge their blindness are given clear vision. In this episode, the most unlikely person, namely the blind man, receives the light of faith in Jesus, while the religion-oriented, law-educated Pharisees remain spiritually blind. Today’s gospel reminds us that we are to live as children of the light, seeking what is good and right and true. Our Lenten prayers and sacrifices should serve to heal our blindness so that we can look into the hearts of others and love them as children of God and our own brothers and sisters. God’s Blessings Always, Fr. Chris N.
