Families that applied for help from the Salvation Army this Christmas will receive their gifts this week. The holiday assistance program will benefit nearly 900 families in the metro. More than 1,800 children will get toys thanks to generous donations to the Salvation Army and the Toys for Tots program. Children up to age 14 will get two toys, a game, a stuffed animal, and a stocking stuffer. Children ages 15 to 17 will get a gift card to a local store. Each family will also receive a grocery store gift card for a healthy holiday meal. Distribution of the gifts is being held at the northern portion of Joshua Christian Academy at East 17th Street and Garfield Avenue. Wednesday the distribution hours are 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday the distribution hours are 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
