Lauretis, Teresa, de. “Figures of Resistance: Essays in Feminist Theory.” Journal of Film and Video. 61.4 (Winter) 2009. 55. Literature Resources from Gale. Web. 8 May 2010. This article identifies some of the principles of feminist theory and suggests some works that explain how the principles were collected for this article. I may use this as introductory material suggesting the nature or origin of feminist theorizing. Scott, Bonnie, Kime. “Introduction: Defining Transnational Now and Then.” Hecate. 35. 1988: 5-8. Academic Search Complete. Web. 5 May 2010. This article discuss the rise of feminism as a literary device throughout European and Asian cultures over the past thirty years. The work also include a definition of feminism that is claimed to be popularly used. “’Feminism’ was not used until the late nineteenth century, but the ideas it embodies have provoked debate for over half a millennium” (qtd. in Fishkin ix). I will use this in the intro to establish the definition of the primary term upon which the paper will focus. Sellnow, Deanna D. “Feminist Perspectives.” The Rhetorical Power of Popular Culture: Considering Mediated Texts. Los Angeles: Sage, 2009. 89-114. This book focuses on the major literary and film theories of the late 19th and 20th centuries. The author provides many examples of how ordinary text is anything but ordinary if read through a

particular analytical perspective. Sellnow write: “Similar to a Marxist perspective, feminist perspectives suggest that a dominant ideology controls what people believe as common sense” [sic] (89). I will use this as a focal point as I continue to analyze my primary source passages. “Overview: ‘Diving into the Wreck’.” Poetry for Students. Ed. Ira Mark Milne. 29. Detroit: Gale, 2009: n.pag. Literature Resources from Gale. Web. 8 May 2010. This article focuses on an analysis of a poem by Adrienne Rich, “Diving into the Wreck.” I believe the author is suggesting the original work is really a metaphor associating a wrecked vessel with the ruin of femininity in a masculine world. “She wants to examine the extent of the damage the wreck has suffered and also to find what valuables remain.” This summary of the original will be used in one of the body paragraphs to show how the work can be interpreted through a feminist perspective.
