What is the ACT? ACT stands for American College Test. It is a 3.5 hour, four section
exam that is held seven times throughout the year. The sections include English, Math, Reading and Science. It is always on a Saturday morning and students must register at least one month prior to their test date. Ideally, students should take this test during the fall of their junior year and again in the spring or summer before they become seniors. Many students also take it in the fall of senior year. The ACT costs $46. However, if you are on the free or reduced lunch list, and/or in a TRIO, AVID, or GEAR UP Program, you are eligible to receive two (in your lifetime) ACT fee waivers. Visit the CCC to pick up a fee waiver. :)
There are three excellent reasons to take the ACT: 1. College Entrance Requirements: A student’s ACT score plays a key role in being accepted
to many colleges including the six state universities in Kansas: Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University, the University of Kansas, and Wichita State University. 2. Course Placement: Colleges often use ACT scores to place students in the appropriate courses once in college. 3. Scholarship Eligibility: Many scholarships require an ACT score. The higher the ACT score, the more free money you may be offered. ACT Test Date
