Christmas (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/christmas/) – The tradition of the Red Kettle started in San Francisco in 1891 and soon became The Salvation Army’s most prominent fund-raiser. All donations remain in the communities where they originate. Angel Tree (http://angeltreeatlanta.org/) – Along with the familiar Red Kettles, the Angel Tree Program is one of The Salvation Army’s highest profile Christmas efforts. Angel Tree was created by The Salvation Army in 1979 by Majors Charles and Shirley White when they worked with a Lynchburg, Virginia shopping mall to provide clothing and toys for children at Christmas
Red Shield Services (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/red-shield-services) – A warm bed, a safe place to stay and two meals a day. For some people, that makes all the difference in turning their lives around. The Salvation Army Red Shield Services is Doing The Most Good by providing shelter for unaccompanied men and women as well as families with children 365 days a year. Home Sweet Home (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/home-sweet-home) – seeks to reach out to newly homeless families or those at risk of imminent homelessness from the Gwinnett county area and lead them not only to stable housing and self-sufficiency, but also fully impact their lives in a positive and caring manner. Senior Citizens Housing (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/william-booth-towers) The Salvation Army William Booth Towers is a residence for the elderly, handicapped and disabled, owned and operated by The Salvation Army. It was constructed in 1988 with financing through a loan from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under Section 202 of the Housing Act of 1959. There are 74 one-bedroom and 25 efficiency apartments. The building is conveniently located near shopping areas, restaurants, churches, the public library and public transportation.
The Salvation Army Financial Emergency Services Centers (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/financial-emergency-services) Each day throughout Metro Atlanta, The Salvation Army Financial Emergency Services Centers provide emergency and life-sustaining assistance with food, clothing, rent/mortgage, utilities, school supplies and furniture to individuals and families facing a financial crisis. Anti-Trafficking Efforts (http://www.havenatl.org/) – Haven ATL is dedicated to serving women who have fallen victim to commercial sexual exploitation in the Metro Atlanta area through prevention, education, case management, and outreach. The community center facilitates outreach and assists with job training and education. It offers group therapy and trauma-focused counseling services as needed. Many other daily activities and resources are available as well. Project Hope (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/project-hope) – is a program offering Hope to individuals and families in Georgia who have been overwhelmed by illness, a house fire, a layoff, or any other verifiable catastrophic event. Each year thousands of hardworking individuals and families find themselves in an unexpected financial crisis. These are people who have never sought help from anyone, but who are thrust into a position of not knowing how they will pay their mortgage, medical expenses or even how to pay for food. Project SHARE (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/project-share) – In partnership with Georgia Power, Project SHARE provides emergency assistance to our neighbors who need help with basic necessities – housing, food, medical care and utility services. The program assists the elderly, the disabled, the unemployed, the sick and others who are experiencing financial hardship.
Emergency Disaster Services (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/emergency-disaster-services/) – In Atlanta and around the world, when flood waters rise, when tornadoes wreak havoc in neighborhoods, when fires destroy homes and dreams – that’s when The Salvation Army demonstrates Christian service at its best, with not only food and supplies, but prayers and counseling
The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Atlanta (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/thesalvation-army-boys-girls-clubs-of-greater-atlanta) – currently has three unit operations, is a member of the Salvation Army Metro Atlanta, and is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the United Way of Metro Atlanta. The purpose of our Boys & Girls Clubs is to provide youth development services and to promote the health, physical, social, educational, vocational and character development of boys and girls. Summer Camping Program (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/summer-camp) – For over 100 years, The Salvation Army has recognized the restorative power of nature. The Salvation Army Summer Camping Program frees youthful imaginations trapped in the concrete, noise, and pollution of our inner-cities. It restores peace of body and mind to weary parents, and creates undistracted time in which families can bond. Camping also gives elderly men and women a unique way to rediscover pride and independence.
Women’s Auxiliary (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/womens-auxiliary) – The purpose of The Women’s Auxiliary is to assist The Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Area Command in all its activities in the community, and to provide volunteer workers for the many projects connected with its religious and humanitarian endeavors.
Worship & Program Services (http://salvationarmyatlanta.org/corps-community-centers) – Today, The Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Area Command’s Corps Community Centers (also known as churches) are a principle vehicle for delivery of its spiritual and social services to the community. Salvation Army Corps offer weekly worship services on Wednesday and Sundays and an array of organized fellowship, worship, education and community service programs for seniors, adults, youth and children of all denominations.
