Shaping Research in Educational Psychology: Implications of World Views, Perceptual Filters and Multiple Perspectives for Theory and Method

The 6th Biennial Conference of the Southwest Consortium for Innovative Psychology in Education

SCIPIE

ΨΠ Albuquerque, NM November 5-6, 2015

WELCOME TO SCIPIE! Dear Colleagues, We are so pleased that you have chosen to join us for the 6th Biennial Conference of the Southwest Consortium of Innovative Psychology in Education (SCIPIE). This year’s conference theme is Shaping Research in Educational Psychology: Implications of World Views, Perceptual Filters, and Multiple Perspectives for Theory and Method. In honor of its 10th anniversary, SCIPIE 2015 takes a “back to the basics” approach with a focus on how established theories, methods, constructs, and units of analysis have shaped research in areas such as cognition, motivation, self-regulated learning, transfer, memory, emotion, teacher beliefs, and epistemology. The conference is driven by two questions: 1) How does what we know about education and the psychology of human learning reflect different perspectives? and 2) Are there aspects of our knowledge that are narrowed by too heavily relying on an established approach or perspective? To gain a more thorough understanding of human learning and the factors that influence it, we invite you to come together to acknowledge assumptions and discuss integration of findings from a range of perspectives. As you enjoy the working sessions, poster reception, keynote presentation, and banquet of SCIPIE 2015, we wish to remind you that at SCIPIE, participation is highly valued. Please make every effort to invite your colleagues, both new and established, to be part of the conversation. Thank you for making SCIPIE a part of your learning tradition!

The Southwest Consortium for Innovative Psychology in Education (SCIPIE) is a professional organization devoted to the study of psychology in education. At the core of SCIPIE are devoted consortium members who maintain leadership roles in educational research around the country. SCIPIE hosts a biennial conference where researchers develop innovative approaches to research. SCIPIE was created to bring together education scholars to advance the study of learning and to provide graduate students with opportunities for participation in authentic problem solving and dialogue. Our emphasis is on research currently in progress and difficult problems that researchers face in our areas of focus. The organization capitalizes on the vibrancy of the Southwest and resources of founding institutions to maintain a center for innovation in the psychological study of learning. We have a strong presence in the American Psychological Association, American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Society, and many other domain specific organizations with emphasis in psychology in education.
