This movie is about how life used to be in Mexico. It is a love story between Pedro and Tita, and why they coudn't get married because Tita's mother wanted her oldest daughter to get married first, and have Tita to stay and take care of her. It shows how marriage was imposed on those times, and how a love between two people can change everything.

Is a French film an Economics graduate student studying for a year in Barcelona, Spain as part of the Erasmus program, where he encounters and learns from a group of students who hail from all over Western Europe. Some of the dialogue is in English however, and a significant amount is in Spanish, as well as small amounts in Catalan, Danish, German and Italian. After her death, a mother returns to her home town in order to fix the situations she couldn't resolve during her life.
