St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish 440 Kendall Street, Burlington, WI | 262.763.2260 | July 24, 2016 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Very Rev. Jim Volkert, Pastor | Rev. Yamid Blanco, Associate Pastor

A Message from Father Jim . . . “Lord, teach us to pray” We might find ourselves resonating with these words today as we listen to the Gospel from St. Luke in which Jesus teaches His followers, and us, how to pray. What happens when we ask for things in prayer? Why do we have to pray when God already knows our needs? Though God always answers prayers, He will not always do so in the way, or at the time, that we think He should. Jesus’ own experience shows us that prayer does not change God. Prayer changes us. When we place our needs before God in prayer, we are opening ourselves to the action of God in our lives. This helps explain why Jesus teaches us to pray for our needs, even though God knows them all in advance. Each time we pray we are acknowledging our dependence on God. God does not need the reminder. We do! Even when we have done our best to explain and understand prayer, however, it still remains a mystery. Although, one thing we can be sure of is that when we pray, our hearts can truly experience deep joy and peace, a peace and joy that can only be found with God. God bless you always! Father Jim Volkert Prayer Garden Social This year's social is scheduled for July 30 after 5:15 mass. Back by popular request are 'The Holy Spirits Wines' of Fr. Domenic Roscioli. Reds, whites and selections in between will be available for sampling and for sale. Light refreshments will also be served. Relax in the Gardens' atmosphere, abundant with reminders of the Catholic faith.

Fall Festival News Once again, we are gearing up for our 56th Annual Fall Festival being held on Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25. In order to keep the festival successful, we have many slots to fill. First of all, we are in need of someone to run the silent auction. There will be helpers there to organize items on Saturday so please don't think you'll be in it alone. Secondly, we need people to run the games. Games are a very large part of our festival. Melissa Weis will guide whomever wishes to take it over. We are also seeking people to run the concessions inside and outside. Start to finish - purchase, set up, schedule help and clean up the areas. With the incorporation of Saturday evening, our "Blues" night will need additional help as well. We have the food tent, bar, raffles and more. Please consider what area is a good fit for you and let Mary know at (262) 206-5569. We will also be hosting another meeting on Tuesday, July 26 at 6:00 in the Activity Center Lobby. Please feel free to attend. GET YOUR CAR RAFFLE TICKETS NOW!! 2.- MEDITATIO ( Meditación ) Que me dice?
