Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

FOR THE GLORY OF GOD The entire history of the Jewish people is directed toward one goal: that God might be glorified through the chosen people. Christians, too, are called to “do everything for the glory of God.” In today’s scriptures Paul reminds us that the best way for us to glorify God is to seek to benefit “the many,” as Christ did when he shed his blood for all of humankind. The reading from Leviticus explains one way the Jews sought to benefit the many, by keeping lepers and leprosy away from the chosen people. Jesus finds a better way. He cures the leper, who immediately re‑enters the community to spread the good news about Jesus to everyone who will listen. In this way both Jesus and the leper fulfill their calling to glorify the God who fills us “with the joy of salvation.” Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

This is not a holy day of obligation, however, it is a day of fast and abstinence. We have only two days of fasting and abstinence each year — Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting means one full meal and two small snacks together not totaling a meal. Abstinence means abstaining from meat ( that includes beef, chicken ( o r any other fowl ) and pork. You may eat fish …… and speaking of fish

It’s beginning to look a lot like fish fry…everywhere you turn

If you are new to St. Clare Parish—welcome. Every Friday of Lent we have our “world famous” or at least Santa Clarita famous - Fish Fry. Dinners are served between 4pm and 8pm. $10 buys you a 3 generous pieces beer battered fish served with coleslaw, french fries (or rice pilaf) and a roll. ***(and lemon wedges if you like)*** If you prefer a smaller meal—you can purchase a 2 piece meal for $9. Please bring lemons to St. Clare beginning this week so that we can use them for fish fry! You can take them to the kitchen or bring them by the Parish Office. Mark 1:40-45

Family Reflection: How much of our own self-worth comes from our appearances? Do we think about what is physically “wrong” with us? Do our children seem overly concerned with their appearance and keeping up with the fashion trends of the day? Today’s Gospel challenges us

to

reflect on the inner part of ourselves that need healing. Do you come before the Eucharist prepared to receive Christ’s transformative healing power in your life? Reflect on the words, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” Let yourself be open to

Christ’s transformation of you during the Lenten season.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

The Sower has joined us at St. Clare—check it out! “God’s Time Will Come” Are you suffering because someone dear to you has stopped practicing the faith or has left the Church altogether? If so, St. Clare’s has a prayer group which meets in the Church every Friday at 7:30 pm. We begin with the celebration of the Mass and complete with devotions specifically for the intentions of bringing our loved ones back into the active participation of the faith. Please join us in lifting our voices in prayer.
