The clergy, staff, and lay faithful of St. Francis de Sales Oratory are always pleased when new visitors come to this beautiful church to join us in the celebration of Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form. We have a coffee hour after each of our Sunday Masses. Please join us! The coffee and donut are on us - just let the cashier know you are a first-time visitor. This is also a reminder to all our Oratory faithful that the Sunday coffee hour is a good time to renew old friendships and make new ones, or to welcome people who are attending Mass here for the first time.
FROM THE VICAR’S DESK “Our country is at a crossroads, and the Church is facing unprecedented challenges,” Archbishop Carlson wrote in a letter earlier this year. “We find ourselves in a position in which prayer and prayerful action are absolutely necessary to combat the rapid social movements and policy changes currently underway in our country and in our cultures.” Indeed the battle between the culture of life and death is going on in a dramatic way, and surely the direction which the U.S. takes will have a great impact on the whole world. I have learnt that in the U.S. many people of faith enrich public life as private employers who organize their businesses according to Christian principles and strive to live up to those principles in how they conduct their companies. To echo Pope Francis, they seek to be full time, not part time Christian. Their faith too enriches public life. Cardinal George says, “We should be concerned as well about the State overreaching its proper authority which is limited in the civil order. Neither the church nor the state “own” the institution of marriage. The state has a right to supervise but not to redefine an institution it did not crate. This tendency for the government to claim for itself authority over all areas of human experience flows from the secularization of our culture. If God cannot be part of public life, then the state itself plays God. There are many paths to total state control of life— fascism, totalitarianism, communism. It the U.S. the path is labeled “protection of individual rights.” We cannot predict the future, but it is certain that our prayers and our concrete commitment to society could change the future for the better. May God watch over and protect us so that we will not lose courage to carry the Cross. -Canon Raphael Ueda

TO ALL OUR GUESTS... Canon Wiener and the faithful of St. Francis de Sales Oratory welcome you, and hope that your time in the “Cathedral of South St. Louis” may be an opportunity to share in the tradition of the Roman Catholic Faith. Please enjoy the beauty of this building dedicated to St. Francis de Sales, co-patron of the INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST. According to the liturgical tradition, and the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, Holy Communion is received kneeling and on the tongue. All visitors who are not of the Catholic faith are welcome to join us in prayer, but are requested not to receive Holy Communion. Because the reception of Holy Communion is the sign of Divine and Ecclesial unity, only practicing Catholics who are free of mortal sin, and in full communion with the Catholic Church should present themselves for Holy Communion. We pray for the full visible unity among all Christians. To receive more information about the Oratory please fill out a contact card available at the entrance of the church. If you desire to become a member of the Catholic Church, contact the rectory. St. Francis de Sales Oratory is an Oratory of the INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
