SOME BASIC INFORMATION ON K – 12 AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 1. What is K – 12 Curriculum according to Department of Education? - This means primarily that Kinder plus 12 years of basic education is provided for all Filipinos and that the Enhanced curricula are geared toward college ready /job prepared graduates who are at par with the ASEAN and Global standards. 2. What is the Vision of Department of Education in implementing these new curricula? - After going through Kindergarten, the enhanced Elementary and Junior High curriculum, and a specialized Senior High program, every K to 12 who graduates, would be ready to go into different paths: may it be further education in college, employment, or entrepreneurship. 3. What are the Special Features of K -12? - Every Filipino child now has access to early childhood education (universal kindergarten) which was taken for granted in the old curricula. - There would be an in-depth knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to be developed in students using continuity and consistency approaches across all levels and subjects through contextualization and enhancements provided in the curricula - The spiral progression paradigm in learning where the most basic to the more complex concepts according to the developmental stage of students would be utilized. - Ensuring College Readiness: alignment of Core and Applied Subjects to the College Readiness Standards (CRS) and new General Education (GE) Curriculum of CHED. - Strengthening TVET Integration in SHS: This will ensure that any Grade 10 finisher and all Grade 12 TVL graduates are eligible for TESDA competency/qualifications assessments (i.e. COC, NC I or NC II)

When would the K to 12 curricula be implemented? - The Universal Kindergarten started in SY 2011-2012. - The new curriculum for Grade 1 and Grade 7 (1st Year Junior High School) was rolled out in SY 2012-2013, the new curriculum for Grade 2 and Grade 8 (2nd Year Junior High School) was rolled out in SY 2013-2014, and the rest of the curriculum is being progressively introduced in the other grade levels in succeeding school years. - Grade 11 will be introduced in SY 2016-2017 and Grade 12 in SY 2017-2018 - The first batch of students to go through Senior High School (SHS) will graduate in March 2018 - Non-Dep. Ed. schools can begin to offer the SHS Program prior to SY 2016-17 provided that they secure a provisional SHS permit from Dep. Ed. - St. Scholastica’s College - Senior High School (Leadership Academy) will start operating in SY 2015-2016. Permit to operate has already been given to the school by Dep. Ed.

What is Senior High School? This is comprised of two years of specialized upper secondary education Students may choose a specialization based on aptitude, interests, and school capacity The choice of career track will define the content of the subjects a student will take in Grades 11 and 12. There are core, contextualized, and specialized subjects to be taken up depending on the chosen track of the students

How does St. Scholastica’s College respond to K to 12 mandate of the Department of Education? - We have done benchmarking of all the curricula from kinder to junior high school and we are setting up of a Senior High School with a slant on developing the leader in every Scholastican, thus, a “Leadership Academy.” Besides the Dep. Ed. Mandated Curricula, we are providing our students in Senior High School, a formation of their Christian values and leadership skills to be at par with the challenges of globalization.

What are the Vision, Mission and Goals of our Senior High School? - Our Vision: A leading senior high school forming young women leaders who are Christcentered, imbued with Benedictine values and equipped with necessary skills to take on responsibilities in society in and through their chosen fields of specialization. - Our Mission: We are committed at forming young women leaders who are both prepared for college and employment, conversant with the changing times, life-long learners, academically competent, critically aware and socially responsible agents of change. - Our Objectives: The holistic formation of every Scholastican through the Leadership Academy aims to develop in our students a. Leadership abilities that are anchored on Benedictine values especially Christcenteredness and social responsibility b. Creative and critical thinking, the art of effective communication, problem solving skills and research aptitudes that meet higher learning standards in college level c. Technical and academic competencies pertinent to their chosen career d. Appreciation of the need to establish interconnection among various academic disciplines, knowledge and skills, linkages and networks that sustain growth and social transformation.

What makes the Senior High School – Leadership Academy of St. Scholastica’s College distinct from other schools? - We take pride in our value formation (theology courses) and leadership skills development. These are imbedded in all the tracks, thus envisioning “women leaders” in the different fields and sectors of society. There is a leader in every Scholastican! Please click on our website to view “Our Notable Alumnae” who have made a difference in their career; another proof of our commitment to provide quality education and relevant programs toward holistic formation of our students! 10. When is the application for Senior High School – Leadership Academy? - Application is now on-going. Priority is given to those who reserve early. Slots which will not be availed of by our Grade 10 students will be made available on a first come first serve basis only. Limited number of students may be accepted.
