Hamilton has a variety of entertainments and venues providing a dazzling nightlife for all ages - restaurants, cafés, pubs and the Sky City Casino which is right in the heart of Hamilton City. Play Tenpin Bowling at Riverside Lanes, try Megazone, the ultimate in laser tag games, have a game of pool and a refreshing drink or try a delicious meal overlooking the mighty Waikato river. Not to be missed for those visiting Hamilton. There is great shopping available in Hamilton with most shops open in the weekend and Hamilton is less than 2hrs

from Auckland, Rotorua and Tauranga. Shopping in the city centre includes the Downtown Plaza, CentrePlace with the Sky City cinemas and in the North, the splendid Westfield Chartwell mall. The city has an abundance of beautiful parks including the fabulous Hamilton Gardens, the Waikato River with annual Gallagher Boat Race, Hamilton Lake, the Hamilton Zoo and Te Rapa Racecourse. The scenic walkways along the river and around the lake are very attractive and well maintained. Of interest is the Waikato Museum of

Art & History on the banks of the river at the south end of Victoria Street. Hamilton is well provided with sports facilities including the Mystery Creek Events and Convention Centre which hosts the Motor Show, the Boat Show, the New Zealand Agricultural Fieldays, the fine golf courses and of course, the magnificent Waikato Rugby Stadium which host the Waikato Chiefs. Hamilton now also hosts the fabulous ITM 400 V8 Supercar race. Visitors to Hamilton will find plenty of accommodation available and a bus transport system in place to service all requirements, as well as Hamilton International Airport for direct flights to the city. Visitors at Christmas time can admire the spectacular Christmas light display at the Mormon Temple at Templeview. Famous as a diverse agricultural centre, Hamilton is also close to outlying scenic attractions such as numerous bush areas with walking tracks, for example Maungatautari near Cambridge, Raglan with its beaches, Waingaro Hot Springs, Te Aroha and Matamata hot pools, bush walks, homestays and thoroughbred racing stables to visit. The Aero Club is also NZQA accredited and provides full time flight training in conjunction with the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology. Students complete science or management papers relevant to the aviation industry, to graduate with a Diploma in Aviation Science. Many of our previous students are working as airline pilots but even more are enjoying flying as a sport, transporting friends around the country, competing in club competitions or trying their hand at aerobatics. Whatever your level we can provide the training you require. The club is also a social venue with a members bar that opens Friday and Sunday nights and regular competitions and events to join in. With a fleet of 10 aircraft available there is plenty of opportunity to hire an aircraft for a scenic flight or take a trip anywhere in the country. Ph. 07 843 5655 or visit www.flywaikato.co.nz

Originally a thriving port, the town was first laid out in the 1870’s. Paeroa is “World Famous in New Zealand” and overseas – for its Big Bottle. At 7 metres high, the Lemon and Paeroa Bottle is a permanent reminder of the therapeutic Paeroa Springs Water discovered before 1900, which, with the addition of lemon, became known as New Zealand’s own soft drink. Originally a thriving river port, the town was first laid out in the 1870s and the Historic Maritime Park and Museum houses artifacts from this era. Paeroa is also known for the many antique, second hand and retro shops where you can spend hours fossicking for that something special. The site of the original gold rush in 1875, Karangahake and its “residential suburb” of Mackaytown, have returned to peaceful activities; fishing, outdoor pursuits, gardens,

Lichfield Rd

Putaruru has a great variety of walks long or short - and they all feature the particular beauty of the region. Visitors to Putaruru are invited to wander Te Waihou Walkway to view the Blue Springs. The crystal clear spring water is bottled in town, and sold commercially, nationally and beyond, as "Pump" water. In fact, it is this small town that is the source of 60% of New Zealand's bottled water! Putaruru is based on a history of farming and timber. It is now the commercial centre for some of the most productive dairy farmland in the country and the town's economy is based on this heritage. The Lichfield Dairy Factory - which is one of the newest and largest cheese factories in the world - is only 6km from the town centre. Putaruru is also host to a national woodturning exhibition - known appropriately as TurNZ - at which some of the most beautiful work in woodturning anywhere in the world can be seen. Each October and November, in even years, the District holds its Spring Into Summer Festival which combines a wide range of community activities with sporting and cultural events for the three-week festival. Putaruru Waterpark The blue colours of the Putaruru Waterpark mimic the colours of Te Waihou spring. Around 5000 plants - all natives I are planted on site. The shape of the feature is similar to the curve of a ponga fern shoot. The Waterpark features two large mosaics. These pieces are extraordinary both in design and colou and the paving surrounding the WaterPark was contributed by the people of Putaruru. Information from www.swktodc.govt.nz

Forestry Centre South Waikato

Tokoroa is the hub of New Zealand's massive forestry, timber and pulp and paper industries. Located mid-way between Taupo and Hamilton on State Highway 1, Tokoroa is an ideal place to pause for an hour or two or, even better, for a day or two. The town takes its name after the Maori chief, "Tokoroa" who was killed as he led his people gallantly against the British in the mid 1800s. Tokoroa is the gateway to many of the central North Island's tourist attractions. There is easy access to bush walks, scenic reserves, lakes and rivers, which are all steeped in Maori legend. Visit Pokaiwhenua, and Hatupatu rock, learn of the stories and legends which make these places sacred. The well-stocked lakes and rivers offer excellent trout fishing, boating, water skiing and yachting. Or simply enjoy a walk round Lake

Te Kuiti township is the main service centre of the Waitomo District. As there are a large number of farms in the district, businesses range from rural supplies and construction specialists to cafes and accommodation providers. Local industry includes everything from meat processing, timber mills and lime processing to rural support services. Te Kuiti has long been recognised as New Zealand's sheep shearing capital and celebrates its rich agricultural heritage in style with the annual NZ Shearing Championships together with the increasingly popular festival known as the "Great NZ Muster".
