your (pc mag) score do not take into account product's false positives, anyone can create a program which detects everything and flags it as "malware" whether or not it is actually a malware."will you give it a 10"?, Particularly avast has a "high false positives" in av comparatives, and you give it a "editor choice". wow! that's very nice of you. you are biased! please include "false positive test" in your next test or your malware samples are of no use. By the way, bitdefender free av does includes behaviour detection, i have used it myself, but it's of no use (bitdefender free version). you cannot schedule a scan, regular updates are not available etc. 1

AVG has always been the best AV value, but has now become deceptive nagware advertising. Personally, I like my antivirus to prevent frequent pop-up ads, not be the cause of them. The ads are designed to fool you into upgrading to a pay product when you thought you were only updating the av profiles. I know the difference between an update and an upgrade, but many of my friends, family, and clients get booby-trapped by that distinction being exploited by AVG for marketing purposes. I now recommend Panda, only because their upgrade nag window is much less frequent and is clearly represented as an upgrade offer only. 1

One yr ago I decided to resign from my previous work and I never felt better in my life... I started to work at home, for a company I found over internet, for a few hours every day, and I profit now much more than i did on my office work... My pay-check for last month was for $9k... Superb thing about this is that i have more time for my loved ones... KORTA.NU/MDe • Reply • Share ›

Many sites mention the same AVs: Avast, Avira, AVG etc. In my opinion PC mag should come up with two reviews, 1. Best most popular Antivirus software 2. Best lesser known Antivirus software -like for eg. Baidu 'Free for Ever' Antivirus and Ukraine based Zillya! Free Antivirus. I didn't find Ad Aware interface attractive and most of its features in free AV are disabled. I have tried Bitdefender and Avira in the past. They take too long a time to update virus definitions in my 3G connection-meaning I can't use both of them. I have read somewhere that Panda also needs high speed internet connection. 1

Panda Free Antivirus 2015 is not FREE, only trial version is free(sic) so do not mislead the readers by saying it is free. 1

The Panda I'm using is still free after a year's use. Perhaps your "sic" word doesn't mean what you think it means. 2

Why is not Comodo Mac Antivirus mentioned in the list? There is a common question like why does Mac needs antiviru? But am telling you friends, Mac is also a prey to malware attackers. I experienced it too. Then I installed Comodo Antivirus and it has been providing my Mac complete protection. Undoubtedly one of the best Avs.

Your list seems good, but I believe that there are other efficient antivirus software in the market too. I've been a user of avg for around 1 year, but then i realized that there are better options too. At present, REVE antivirus is my choice as it scans really fast. No more 'slow down' issues. I'm quite satisfied.

If you want a paid antivirus and don't want to spend a lot of money, I recommend WEBROOT. Now you won't see it on these test because they use a whole different approach to keeping you safe. So a different method would have to be used to give this testing a fair shot. Since they don't want to do this, then it is left out. I have found this paid version very reasonable on EBay. You can protect 5 PCs for under 25 dollars for a year. I have used this for the last 8 years and have had no problems. It also alerts you if you are going to an unsafe site. It will let you go there if you really want to but it will make sure that you are made aware of the risk you are taking. You can look up webroot and you will fine it mentions but they do state that it is not within their test methods. But some will give it a good recommendation with knowing that it uses this methods of protection.

I guess nobody ever told you that when you install more than one antivirus product on the same computer, you do not increase protection; you do the exact opposite! They cancel each other out, leaving you with NO protection!!! I have tested BASIC viruses on systems with BASIC antivirus software installed and when installed individually they will either block or detect; in EVERY case, without fail, IF they will even allow you install another AV product while the first one is still present on the system, in EVERY case, they have failed to block and/or detect a contamination when the computer has been infected! • Reply • Share ›

OK; 37 year+ Computer Consultant; THIS statement is critical, and I quote: "Since I use the same samples month after month, the malware-blocking test definitely doesn't measure a product's ability to detect brand-new threats." Considering the frequency of the release of NEW malware threats worldwide (at LEAST hourly) this alone shows why the statement "You get what you pay for" when it comes to anti virus protection is true!!! In reality, you pay nothing, you get nothing! And The number of computers I have encountered severely compromised or damaged by malware attacks that have been "protected" by any of the above products during the last 15 years are WAY too many to be counted, and this trend STILL continues today! Your computer is a hardware investment; can you REALLY risk having to pay between $250 and $2500 for a replacement computer just because you were too stingy to pay $50 for an anti virus program? COME OM PEOPLE!!!! .

OM [sic] Wrong! Price of av is not correlated with effectiveness. Many times I have personally worked on highly infected systems that had expensive av programs, and l used free products to cure them. 1

Price is not ALWAYS an indicator, no, but I stand behind 37 years of experience when I say with FREE internet security software you really do get what you DON'T pay for!!! Ironically, just this last week since my post 5 Clients who thought they could skate by with AVG, Panda & Avira discovered those products did NOT protect their systems from MAJOR system contamination!!! In ALL cases, it was fortunate that user data was backed up because there was no alternative other than to undertake FULL SYSTEM RECOVERIES. Ironically, in one of those locations, two other computers on the same network were NOT hit but were actually WARNED of an attempted infection by the particular PAID for security software therefore saving themselves the time and costs that were incurred on the other systems. SO, sorry, I stand by my statement, which as I said is backed up by a GREAT many years of experience.......A paid anti virus program that updates HOURLY is much more effective than one that only updates twice a week, or even daily for that matter!
