1 spelling test - apology, stomach, appearance, deceptive, outrage, discipline.
2. Each pupil to give two examples of Archie's power and dominance up to this point in the novel.
3. Skim the relevant chapters. Pick out as many words or phrases as you can that suggest the author is American. E.g 'crazy' (p.146), 'blocks' (p.147), 'I figure' (p.147),'wise guy' (p.150) etc.

Development
1. As a group, discuss chapter six. Pupils to find descriptions of Brother Leon, and how Jerry responds to the incident. Specific quotes needed. 2. Answer questions relating to ch 25 and 26 orally. Written response for ch 27.
1. After collecting appropriate notes and quotes, pupils write up a paragraph.
1. Pupils offer adjectives to describe Brother Leon.
1 Using shared adjectives, pupils complete and improve upon paragraph.
2 Discuss answers to questions. Make notes on incidents that suggest Archie is losing his grip. Pick relevant quotes to support notes.
2 Quickfire quiz. Split class down middle. When you say the words 'dominance' or 'humiliation,' the pupil must give an e.g relating to Archie. Team scores 10 points for each correct answer.
2 To run for two homework tasks.
3. Each pupil should have a copy of the question sheet. Teacher led discussion. Focus on ch. Thirty one.
3. Pupils to use the answers given in the oral work and the novel to help them to begin to write a character analysis of Jerry in these chapters. Use quotes.
3. Each pupil to offer a sentence to describe Jerry, supported by a quote. Group make notes from suggestions made.

Archie is a scheming and a manipulative character who 'controls the school in the palm of his hand' (p.169). Discuss the extent to which you agree with this statement.
'The world is made up of two kinds of people those who were victims and those who victimized' (p.79). How far do you agree with Archie that he is the one who 'victimized' and that Jerry is the 'victim?'
Using prepared notes and quotations, answer the essay question.
Pupils to complete character analysis of Jerry based on these three chapters.
Everyone has their own principles, and should stand up for what they believe in. Sometimes the only option left is to fight it out to settle the argument. Is fighting the answer?
