[email protected] Reception Hours: Sunday, Tuesday 12:00-16:00, Thursday 09:00-13:00 Mail Address: The Israeli Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts The Yolanda and David Kats Faculty of the Arts Tel-Aviv University P.O.B 39040 Ramat Aviv, Tel Aviv 69978 About the Israeli Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts: In the Israeli Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts you can find documentary material of the genealogy of the Israeli theatre as well as the genealogy of the theatre of the world Jewry. The documentary material refers to a variety of performing arts such as theatre, opera, dance, pantomime and entertainment performances. Most of the documentary material is in Hebrew. The Israeli Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts maintains a continuous relationship with all of the theatres in the country and receives from them material which reflects their artistic and administrative activity. The center encourages stage performers, collectors, art and culture institutions and stage performers' family members to deposit their collections and estates within the center. The goal of the center is to store the documentary material and catalogue it for purposes of study and research. Genealogy of the Israeli Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts: Mr. Shimon Lev-Ari founded the Israeli Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts (previously named The Israeli Archive of Theatre) in 1970 by the Department of Theatre arts in TelAviv University and serves as its manager until his retirement in 2009. In 1982 the archive was recognized by the state curator as a public archive. In 1988 the municipality of Tel-Aviv granted the Israeli Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts and its manager, Shimon Lev-Ari, the Moshe Levi Prize for the Performing Arts for an exceptional contribution to the field of Israeli theatre. The Israeli Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts Catalogue: In 2010 the Israeli Center for the Documentation of the Performing Arts began a computerized cataloguing project for the documents found in the center. Today the catalogue includes over 1000 items. We open the catalogue for public service. The link to the Israeli center catalogue can be found at the bottom of the page. It's important to emphasize that the construction of the catalogue is in working stages. The records which appear in the computerized catalogue constitute only a small fraction of all documents that exist in the archive. If the material you searched for does not appear in the catalogue, you are welcome to arrive at the center in order to continue your search. The Fred Simmons Trustee Project in the Arts This project began in 2009 with Mr. Simmons' generous gift for the digitizing of the Art Slide Collection of the Art History Department (see home page of the Faculty of Arts). With the event of Mr. Simmons' next gift, The Fred Simmons Trustee Project in the Arts enlarges its scope and aims to launch the digitizing of the archive materials of "The Israeli Center for Documentation of Performing Arts". Over 2011-2012 the Center's staff will proceed with this project, and information regarding access to digitized materials will be published here as we proceed. The Israeli Center for Documentation of Performing Arts is grateful to Mr. Simmons' for his long term and generous Trustee Project in the Arts, which intensifies our research potential for the benefit of all. The Israeli Center for Documentation of Performing Arts' pamphlet. The pamphlet summarizes the diverse activity of the center in this past year. We would be pleased to keep in contact with you in order to assist in papers and researches as well as in order to think about creative and interesting initiatives.
