TASTE TEST: THE NEW KRITSY’S VILLAGE CAFE HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/TASTE-TEST-THE-NEW-KRITSYS-VILLAGE-CAFE/

p://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Screen-Shot-2017-02-23-at-11.13.57-AM.png) you may have heard, local Malibu restaurants Kristy’s and Le Village Cafe have merged to form the brand new Kristy’s Village Cafe (http://allthingsmalibu.com/malib aurants/kristys-village-cafe/). The new restaurant, formed back in January is now located at the old Le Village Cafe location in the Trancas Shopping Center (next to tage Grocers (http://allthingsmalibu.com/malibu-restaurants/vintage-grocers/)).

self, along with two colleagues recently decided to give the new restaurant a taste test to see how it compared to both the old Kristy’s and Le Village Cafe.

sty's Village Cafe!

knew before going in the new menu is a combination of both restaurants as well as some new items that were previously not on either. As said in an article from the ibu Times (http://www.malibutimes.com/news/article_c3369176-ddc9-11e6-8366-e7adbfc96fb9.html), the owners have “made every effort to keep the most popular ms from both menus. From Le Village they have kept the fresh juices, the acai bowls, the quiches and “lighter fare” in general like salad Nicoise, citrus salad and quin ad. From Kristy’s, they have kept the hamburgers, the Hong-Kong style steamed fish and the French-fry pizza, as well as a number of seafood dishes, omelets, banan ter, French toast and flatbread pizzas.”

y still serve breakfast, lunch and dinner however we went in during the lunch hour at approximately 12:30pm. We were greeted kindly and instructed to sit wherever d as it was not a busy afternoon. We took a comfy booth in the far back corner of the restaurant and we were waited on politely and in a timely manner. Despite what ors we had heard about poor service at Le Village Cafe, we cannot attest to any of that. We were quite happy with the service.

ween the three of us we ordered one short rib sandwich, one black bean burger, the Kristy’s prime beef burger, two orders of french fries, and an order of sweet potat s. To say that we were happy with our orders would be an understatement. Each one of us cleared our plates and were completely satisfied.

ttp://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/IMG_2333.JPG.jpeg)

en our lunch experience at Kristy’s Village Cafe I give it a confident 5 out of 5 stars! The only thing we could knock them for is that the food is a tiny bit expensive, ybe a buck or two over priced. Other than that, A+. Definitely will return.

eck out their website (https://kristysvillagecafe.com/) to take a look at their full menu including breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as other restaurant information.

LEGACY PARK LOOKING BETTER THAN EVER AFTER SERIES OF RAINS HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/LEGACY-PARK-LOOKING-BETTER-THAN-EVERAFTER-SERIES-OF-RAINS/)

p://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/IMG_2279.jpg) er the past month and a half or so, Malibu has experienced its largest amount of rain in recent memory. Although it has caused some trouble about the city, the excess er has been nothing but great for its natural beauty. Waterfalls that had dried up many years ago have been revived and many of the empty plots of land previously ered with ugly brown dirt have sprouted bright green vegetation.

e place in particular that has been positively affected by the rains has been Legacy Park. Located right in the heart of Malibu adjacent to the Civic Center, Legacy Par begun to sprout new green growth and is showing off a healthy amount of water in the channel and the vegetation pond. Wildlife such as local birds have been cking in the pond while lizards, squirrels and other wildlife roam on land.

p://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/IMG_2260.jpg) acy Park was officially opened in October of 2010 as part of a 50 million dollar project by the City of Malibu to improve the ocean water quality while also improving t rall public health. The Park, on its own costing 35 million dollars, essentially acts as a natural water filtering mechanism.

rmwater (which we have seen plenty of lately) and natural runoff feed into the Park through the channel and into the vegetation pond. From there, water gets sent to t c Center Water Treatment Facility where it is treated and sent back to the park. From there the water is funneled into irrigation systems. This function of the park is ortant because it aims to decreases the levels of bacteria in the water that runs off into the oceans right here in Malibu (everyone knows how bad it can get at Surfrid

ng with the environmental functionality of the Park it acts as a great place for city events such as the Veterans Day Memorial Service, serves as an education ortunity by providing educational artwork and accompanying informational kiosks, and provides open park space and benches to either walk or sit to enjoy the beaut he park. Not to mention it is a dog friendly!

p://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/IMG_2289-e1486068164165.jpg) t like most city endeavors in Malibu, especially one with so much money invested, it has not come without its own bit of controversy. Some members of the communit k that this 15 acre area of land could be put to better use. Furthermore, some think that this 50 million dollar project should have never have started in the first place a these funds should have been allocated elsewhere.

gardless of the local politics, the park is here and is looking better than ever before. We recommend if you get a chance to stop by and enjoy Legacy Park.

RECENT RAINS BRING BACK WATERFALLS HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/RECENT-RAINS-BRING-BACK-WATERFALLS/)

p://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/IMG_2823.jpg) e of the biggest headlines in 2016 was the tremendous drought that California was (and still is) experiencing. The lack of rainfall in the prior years combined with dry hot weather patterns led to the biggest drought since the early 1900’s. Lucky for us, 2017 was kicked off with a healthy dose of medicine for Malibu and the rest of ifornia in the form of the most rainfall in recent memory, with weather forecasts predicting more to come.

recent rainfall has been great for the aesthetic beauty of Malibu. Almost everywhere you look new plant growth is on the rise and bright green grass is beginning to out up in places you didn’t know grass could grow! Perhaps the best thing about the recent rainfall, however, is the revival of Malibu waterfalls that have been dried ecent years due to the drought.

were so excited that the waterfalls were back running that we decided to head to one of our favorite hikes here in Malibu, Escondido Falls to see it for ourselves. As we igated the muddy trail we were not disappointed when we reached the end of our hike. Sure enough the waterfall was back in action. It may not have been flowing to the ree it once was in the past, however, but hopefully more rains to come will add a little extra energy to the falls.

ou decide to go waterfall chasing in the near future, we highly recommend wearing some hiking boots. The trails are extremely muddy and slippery from all of the rain you will need all of the traction that you can get. Also, only attempt to hike these trails if you body is able. Slipping and falling is a very real possibility. Happy Hiking

VISIT TO THE MALIBU PIER

Malibu Pier is one of the most, if not the most iconic landmark that Malibu has to offer. Built in 1905, the pier has gone through a number of renovations throughout t rs, however it still looks fairly similar to its original construction.

main activities on the pier include sightseeing, grabbing a bite to eat, taking photos, and fishing.

Malibu Pier also features one of Malibu’s most popular places to eat, Malibu Farm (http://allthingsmalibu.com/malibu-restaurants/malibu-farm/). Malibu Farm has two ations on the Pier, one at the end (the cafe) and one at the base of the pier (the restaurant). Both serve delicious food, however feature different menus. Take your pic can’t go wrong with either.

EAT AT ONE OF THE ICONIC MALIBU RESTAURANTS

ibu, just like other small cities, has a few local restaurants that have become part of the fabric of the city. Some of these restaurants have been here for ages, some a incredibly popular, and some are both. Here are just three that we recommend you try out when you visit.

ibu Seafood (http://allthingsmalibu.com/malibu-restaurants/malibu-seafood/) – This seafood joint located across from Dan Blocker Beach has become a Pacific Coast hway landmark for its unmistakable square sign featuring a large red lobster. On any given sunny beach day the line for this place will be so long it often floods onto the sho he highway. Definitely worth the wait if the line is long! BYOB as well :). As seen in 5 Great Lunches! (http://allthingsmalibu.com/5-great-lunches-in-malibu/)

adise Cove Beach Cafe (http://allthingsmalibu.com/malibu-restaurants/paradise-cove-beach-cafe/) – This restaurant sits right on the beach at Paradise Cove Beach b and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This restaurant is popular with locals and tourists alike. The menu boasts a large selection of options to chose from wit ions ranging on the large size. Perhaps the best part about this restaurant is that seating is available outside on their patio overlooking the ocean. There aren’t man er settings to enjoy a meal! As seen in 5 Great Breakfasts! (http://allthingsmalibu.com/5-great-breakfast-restaurants-in-malibu/)

’s Cafe (http://allthingsmalibu.com/malibu-restaurants/lilys-cafe-malibu/) – If you’re looking for a great burrito, look no further. Lily’s has become incredibly popular ov years for its signature breakfast burrito. By no means is this restaurant a one trick pony. It is hard to miss with anything on the menu, it's all DELICIOUS! If you can, ke sure to call ahead with your order. During the busy hours the wait can be up to 40 minutes plus. As seen in 5 Great Breakfasts! This is a great hike to br ng the family and dog (if he or she is on a leash) to enjoy some of Malibu’s scenery. What makes this particular hike unique are the ruins of two homes that were victi wildfires, one in 1982 and one in 2007.

GO TO THE BEACH (DUH!)

SPEND THE DAY AT ROSENTHAL WINES TASTING ROOM

Rosenthal Wine's Tasting Room is one of our favorite places to visit in Malibu. They provide a beautiful indoor and outdoor setting to to enjoy different wines with at company!

weekday vibe is more of a relaxed, low energy vibe. Less energy does not mean worse energy by any means. On the weekends, the crowds increase significantly m the weekdays (obviously) and the tasting room has similar energy to that of a day club. The whole property is buzzing by the time the afternoon rolls around. Addin he lively weekend vibe, the outdoor patio area plays host to many popular Los Angeles food trucks as well as live music. If you’re looking for more of a mellow vibe, t the tasting room on a weekday. If you want the higher energy day club vibe, visit the tasting room on the weekend.

5 OF THE BEST HIKES IN MALIBU (HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/5-BEST-HIKESN-MALIBU/)

ng is a staple of outdoor life in Malibu. Just like the beaches, the beautiful hiking trails attract people from all over Southern California and beyond with promises of gnificent views combined with pleasant ocean breezes. With the many hikes in Malibu offering different views and levels of difficulty, you can always find the perfect you!

h Summer upon us and more and more people visiting our city for hiking, it got us thinking; What are our favorite hikes? This was no easy task given all of the great es that the city has to offer. However, after some serious contemplation and and difficult decision making, we narrowed down our 5 best hikes in Malibu! Hope you oy!

OLSTICE CANYON (HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/SEE-AND-DO-HIKING/SOLSTICE-CANYONALIBU/)

Solstice Canyon hike is a low-difficulty, flat hike that takes you along a creek through a set of Malibu home ruins. In total, it is 2.6 miles in and out. Hike time can tak ween an hour and two hours. There are various ways to spend a day hiking through this trail and surrounding area. If you are looking for a more intense hike, hang rig he beginning of the trail. This will take you to a loop trail up the mountainside for some great views of the ocean. Feeling adventurous? Hop off the paved path and ta trails that go along the creek and in between the trees. Once you get to the end of the hike there are large rock formations that you can climb up and follow deep into untains. You could easily spend an extra hour on the excursion.

e some time to check out the 2 ruins in the canyon. Both homes were victim to wildfires. The first you will encounter burnt down in 2007. The second is the Robert nch House that burnt down in 1982. It gets its name the “Tropical Terrace” from the surrounding, rather out of place, tropical vegetation. Beyond these ruins the creek s at what used to be a waterfall. stice Canyon is a great hike to bring along the family and dog (if he or she is on a leash) to enjoy some of Malibu’s scenery and history. Beware of snakes! The ATM m encountered 2 snakes on our visit — one a 5-foot rattlesnake!

SCONDIDO FALLS (HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/SEE-AND-DO-HIKING/ESCONDIDO-FALLSALIBU/)

ondido Falls (also known as the Winding Way Hike) is a very popular hike located at Winding Way and Pacific Coast Highway. There is a small, free parking lot but almost guarantee on the weekend you will have to find street parking on PCH.

ce you arrive at Winding Way don’t assume you’re at the wrong spot when you find yourself walking a long (3/4 mile) paved road through a beautiful Malibu ghborhood. Continue passed the homes until you reach the dirt path on the left towards Escondido Canyon Park. Follow the trail down the short hill and it will level o he rest of the hike.

s hike was once known for its flowing creek and beautiful water all. The drought has really affected this Los Angeles staple and is almost entirely dry unless there ha n a recent rain. Not to worry, if you are feeling particularly adventurous, this just makes it easier to climb up the mountain adjacent to the waterfall. If not, the area ounding the waterfall is a great place to sit, relax and enjoy the nature.

trail is 3.8 miles round trip and will take you1.25 hr to 2.5 hr depending on your pace and decision to take on the mountain climb at the end of the trail. A forewarning e are no public restrooms. Happy hiking!

HARMLEE WILDERNESS PARK (HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/SEE-AND-DOKING/CHARMLEE-WILDERNESS-PARK-MALIBU/)

armlee Wilderness Park is located up Encinal Canyon on the northern end of Malibu. The 590-acre park has many trails that add up to around 8 miles. We recommen bbing a map at the trailhead, if they are available, or bringing your own copy from home (they are often out).

armlee has trails for all ages and physical capabilities that range in difficulty from very flat and easy to significant inclines and declines. You can pick one trail and sta an hour, or explore the entire park and spend the whole day. One of the must see trails takes you to the “Ocean Overlook Area”. Here you can enjoy beautiful ocean ws up and down the coast. Another awesome feature of this hike are the Ranch house ruins. Consult the map at the main trailhead to find both the Ocean Overlook a ruins.

e could use one word to describe hiking at Charmlee Wilderness Park it would be variety. There is such a diverse mixture of scenery on each of the different trails. O ute you are surrounded by tall trees, the next you feel like you have been transported to the flat lands of an African Safari, followed by incredible ocean views.

o unique about Charmlee Wilderness Park is that every full moon they host a moonlit hike hosted by a representative from the Santa Monica Mountains Nature serve. – Check out a Charmlee moonlit night hike! (http://allthingsmalibu.com/moonlit-night-hike-at-charmlee-wilderness-park-every-full-moon/)

UERCO CANYON (THE CAMERON NATURE PRESERVE) (HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/SEEND-DO-HIKING/CAMERON-NATURE-PRESERVE-MALIBU/)

Cameron Nature Preserve off of Puerco Canyon Road is a popular trail for hikers, bikers, and equestrians. The Puerco Canyon fire road leads you past several side ds and trails. Most notably, the ruins of an old ranch presumably consumed by a brush fire. (To our amazement there is little documentation of this ranch or its demise he internet.)

M recently did a hike up the trail to an altitude of 1,835 feet—a distance of 7.5 miles up and down. Around each turn we were greeted by gorgeous views of Point Dum Corral Canyon. The great thing about this hike is that the spectacular views are almost instant, so you can turn around for home feeling satisfied if you don’t have th e to keep going. Round trip took us about 3 hours with time spent hiking, enjoying the beautiful views, and exploring the interesting things along the way.

YCAMORE CANYON (HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/SEE-AND-DO-HIKING/SCENIC-ANDVERLOOK-TRAILS-LOOP-MALIBU/)

Sycamore Canyon hike located in the Sycamore Canyon Campgrounds is another great choice for a morning of hiking in Malibu. To get to the trailhead, enter the amore Canyon gates and the parking lot is off to the left. After you park, head the opposite direction of the parking lot (to the right of the gate) through the campgroun ce you reach the end of the campsite, take the Scenic Trail immediately to the left. It will take you down through the dried up creek and up a flight of stairs.

otal, the hike is about 2.7 miles entirely uphill. The ocean views are spectacular as you reach the peak of the mountain. This is a great place to take pictures and pau njoy your surroundings. Those looking for a longer hike can choose to take the Loop Trail an extra 3.5 miles back to the start of the hike. After your hike, take some e to stroll down to the beach and reward yourself for the active morning!

’s Cafe (http://allthingsmalibu.com/eat-sleep/lilys-cafe-pastries-malibu/) – If you’re looking for a great burrito, look no further. (http://allthingsmalibu.com/5-greatakfast-restaurants-in-malibu/)

GO ON A HIKE

There many great hikes in Malibu and you can see a list of them by clicking HERE (http://allthingsmalibu.com/see-and-do/hike-malibu/).

e hike that we specifically recommend is it the Solstice Canyon Hike (http://allthingsmalibu.com/see-and-do-hiking/solstice-canyon-malibu/). This is a great hike to br ng the family and dog (if he or she is on a leash) to enjoy some of Malibu’s scenery. What makes this particular hike unique are the ruins of two homes that were victi wildfires, one in 1982 and one in 2007.

GO TO THE BEACH (DUH!)

visit to Malibu really complete without a trip to the beach? We think not.

Zum ar the largest beach around so it rarely feels like the beach is crowded. This beach also has plenty of parking as well as public bathrooms and showers.

0. DO A LOW TIDE BEACH WALK FROM COUNTY LINE TO BROAD BEACH

VERY IMPORTANT to note that this walk is only accessible during a very low tide. If the tide is too high, certain sections of the beach will not be accessible. Trying k through the water or swimming across can be very dangerous so be very mindful of the tide.

at makes this walk so great is the fact that you pass through so many different beaches. It is like you are getting a little taste of each of the best beaches on the west of Malibu. The notable beaches you pass through include County Line (http://allthingsmalibu.com/see-and-do-surf/county-line-malibu/), Leo Carillo p://allthingsmalibu.com/see-and-do-beaches/leo-carrillo-state-beach/), La Piedra (http://allthingsmalibu.com/see-and-do-beaches/la-piedra-state-beach-malibu/), El cador (http://allthingsmalibu.com/see-and-do-beaches/el-pescador-state-beach-malibu/), Nicholas Beach (http://allthingsmalibu.com/see-and-do-beaches/nicholasyon-county-beach-malibu/), and El Matador. e charity benefitting from the evening that we hold especially dear to us at All Things Malibu is Callie’s Cause (http://calliescause.org/). Moving here from the middle of busy New York City to such a tranquil place like Malibu has had a tremendous effect on Briggs work, but she believes it is time to move on.

ng in Malibu has added “ another layer” to her artwork and she “has evolved so much” in her time here. What she found in Malibu was a sense of isolation and solitu mething that she could not find in the middle of New York City. Briggs believes that “the life of an artist includes both time spent in solitude balanced with time with ot ple, sharing and talking about art, and generating ideas about art and here in Malibu [she has] had 5 years in solitude…after 5 years of that it is time to move on and re ideas with other artists.”

ore she bids her final farewell on June 1st back to the east coast, Briggs is hosting her final art shows in her Malibu studio (http://allthingsmalibu.com/locations/briggs teford-studio/) located at Cosentino’s Nursery (25019 Pacific Coast Highway).

s Thursday, April 21st from 5pm-9pm (http://allthingsmalibu.com/events/art-show-presented-by-the-briggs-whiteford-studio-2016-04-21/) her studio will featu work from French Artist Jill Steenhuis and her son, Sergio Ruffato from 5-9pm. They’re artwork is what is on display in the video. The evening will include great art, e and sunset viewing!

Friday and Saturday, the 22nd and 23rd from 11am-1pm (http://allthingsmalibu.com/events/art-show-presented-by-the-briggs-whiteford-studio-2016-04-22/ Steenhuis will be giving an inspirational talk on art, spirit, and business accompanied with mimosas and coffee!

May 14th from 5pm-9pm (http://allthingsmalibu.com/events/briggs-whiteford-art-studio-presents-rana-wilson/) Briggs will be hosting another artist, Rana Wils m 5-9pm.

m now until June 1st Briggs will be hosting private shows of her own art by appointment only. To make an appointment call her at (914) 841-7052 or email at [email protected].

EMILY SHANE FOUNDATION TO HOLD FUNDRAISER AT CASA ESCOBAR ON THURSDAY, APRIL 14TH (HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/EMILY-SHANEFOUNDATION-TO-HOLD-FUNDRAISER-AT-CASA-ESCOBAR-ON-THURSDAY-APRIL14TH/)

p://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/emily-shane-logo.png) s coming Thursday, April 14th, Casa Escobar Malibu will be playing host to a fundraising event, Wings Over Malibu (http://allthingsmalibu.com/events/wings-ove ibu-the-emily-shane-foundation/), that will be benefitting The Emily Shane Foundation and it’s SEA (Successful Educational Achievement) Program. The fundrais mises to be a great night of food, dancing, drinks, entertainment, and more! Tickets are just $150 a person as well as VIP tables available for $800. p://emilyshane.org/butterfly/)

ou are unaware, the Emily Shane foundation was founded in the memory of Emily Shane, a local Malibu daughter and sister who was murdered by a suicidal driver a tragic age of 13 on the corner of Heathercliff and PCH. The street has since been named after Emily in her honor. Emily was described by those who knew her best meone “was one of those amazing kids who was kind to all. She transcended cliques, advocated for those less fortunate, and was all about helping others. She was th who would ask you to join her at the lunch table if you were sitting alone; who welcomed a new student to the school, who tried to cheer you up if you were sad. Sh embered for her laughter and compassion. She left a positive impression on anyone she met.”

p://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/emily-face.png) Wings Over Malibu fundraiser this week is to help benefit the Foundation’s SEA Program which provides individualized mentoring/tutoring to struggling middle scho dents in the mainstream classroom who risk failure, and could not otherwise afford this much needed after school support in order to succeed academically.

ly’s Mother, Ellen Shane, started the SEA Program following her own experience with Emily. Despite being very intelligent , Emily was “falling through the cracks” a n’t necessarily fit the typical mold to succeed academically. Following her death in 2010, Ellen wanted to do something for children who fit the same sort of profile as ly and came up for the idea of SEA. Since its inception, the SEA Program has been highly successful and continues to grow. Perhaps the best part about this progr hat the only charge for these students to participate in the mentoring sessions that they must complete one good deed per session which they record on emilyshane.o

LOW TIDE BEACH WALK FROM COUNTY LINE TO BROAD BEACH HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/LOW-TIDE-BEACH-WALK-FROM-COUNTY-LINETO-BROAD-BEACH/)

OW TIDE BEACH WALK FROM COUNTY LINE TO BROAD BEACH

ATURED IN 12 OF THE BEST THIGNS TO DO IN MALIBU (http://allthingsmalibu.com/12-of-the-best-things-to-do-in-malibu/)

ach walks are one of the most popular outdoor activities in Malibu. Even on days with very poor weather you will always find a few people enjoying a stroll on popula ches like Zuma and Malibu. And why not? The sand feels great on your feet, the sounds of crashing waves are always very soothing, and marine animals are neve to make a surprise appearance. I recently heard about a particularly great beach walk stretching from County Line all the way to Broad Beach so I decided to give it In my opinion this is the best beach walk in Malibu and I recommend that you give it a try.

VERY IMPORTANT to note that this walk is only accessible during a very low tide. If the tide is too high, certain sections of the beach will not be accessible. Trying k through the water or swimming across can be very dangerous so you definitely won't want to do that.

Tide at 0.2¢ when I started at 11:15am Tide bottomed out at noon. Tide at 0.5¢ when I finished.

a reference, I started my walk at 11:15am when the tide was on its way down at 0.2’. The tide bottomed out out at 0.1’ around noon and when I finished my walk at 5pm the tide was back up to 0.5’. The only issue I faced with water in the way was immediately after County Line beach when you hit the first group of beach houses e water was about a foot deep so I decided to climb over the rocks for about twenty 15 yards rather than get wet. Other than that it was smooth sailing.

ng a running app on my phone that tracks pace and distance, I totaled the distance of the walk at just under 6 miles. It took a total of 2 hours and 25 minutes moving at a pac 4 minutes per mile. For some sort of perspective on my movement, I was walking at a comfortable pace the whole time, stopping periodically to take a picture here and there o had a ten minute stop where I rescued a seal that was stuck under a rock. :)

(http://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/IMG_1286-1.png) ce this is a one way walk, you will want to figure out a situation where you and a walking partner bring two cars, dropping off one at the broad beach end so you can drive ba he other car left at County Line. Another option is to have someone pick you up or turn around halfway through the walk.

e aspect of what makes this walk so great is the fact that you pass through so many different beaches. It is like you are getting a little taste of each of the best beache he west end of Malibu. The notable beaches you pass through include County Line, Leo Carillo, La Piedra, El Pescador, Nicholas Beach, and El Matador.

other reason this walk is great is the sense of seclusion that is felt during certain sections of the beach. Many of the areas you pass through have no public access rby so the beach is completely empty of people. At the beaches mentioned in the previous paragraph you will definitely find some people, especially El Matador, bu ween these crowded areas you will find empty sand for some peace and tranquility.

e last tip before you do this beach walk is to make sure to wear sunscreen! Your are in the sun for 2 and halfs hours + and the sun can definitely take it’s toll. I ortunately got a wicked sunburn. :0 Enjoy and be safe!

ROSENTHAL WINE TASTING ROOM: NAPA IN MALIBU HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/ROSENTHAL-WINE-TASTING-ROOM-NAPA-INMALIBU-2/)

(http://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/rosenthal-logo-large.png) e tasting has become one of the top attractions in Malibu. This fun daytime activity pulls in all different types of crowds including locals, out of towners, the young (at least 2 ourse!) and the old. I mean, what’s not to like about it? When you throw in sunny Southern California weather, good company, some stylish day-drinking attire, and top it all wine, you’re going to end up with a pretty good result. The All Things Malibu team recently took a trip to the Rosenthal Wine Tasting Room and we were not disappointed.

tured in 12 OF THE BEST THINGS TO DO IN MALIBU! (http://allthingsmalibu.com/12-of-the-best-things-to-do-in-malibu/)

(http://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/6329.jpg) ing up to the tasting room we all realized that we have drove past here hundreds, if not thousands of times and noticed the large crowds gathering on the weekends. Upon val, we entered into the beautifully decorated bar room. The room boasts beautiful photography on the walls including a piece of the Berlin Wall on the shelf immediately to r right when you enter the room, as well as indoor tables and a well stocked bar. We were then greeted by one of the managers, Marc Applebaum. Marc was incredibly rismatic and knowledgeable about all the different types of wine.

Shot-2016-03-02-at-11.37.03-AM.png) Inside the bar room!

c got us started with a wine tasting. The wine tasting included four different varieties including red and white. We started off with a refreshing white wine, followed by three erent reds. Marc went on to inform us that all wines marked with the “Rosenthal” label were made from grapes grown on the Rosenthal Estate in Malibu. The other resident e in the tasting room, “Surfrider”, is made from grapes grown in the Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo area. For more about the grapes and other related information about enthal Wines visit their website www.rosenthalestatewines.com (http://www.rosenthalestatewines.com/).

r our tasting in the bar, we took our wine outside to the large outdoor patio area. Their outdoor patio area is a perfect setting for wine tasting! This patio area is stock h plenty of tables, benches and couches to accommodate their incredibly busy weekend crowds. We decided that the patio is the perfect size; large enough to be mfortable during the busy crowds but still small enough to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of the tasting room.

le on the topic of atmosphere, the weekday and weekend atmospheres are quite different. The weekday vibe is more of a relaxed, low energy vibe. Less energy do mean worse energy by any means. On the weekends, the crowds increase significantly from the weekdays (obviously) and the tasting room has similar energy to tha day club. The whole property is buzzing by the time the afternoon rolls around. Adding to the lively weekend vibe, the outdoor patio area plays host to many popula Angeles food trucks as well as live music. If you’re looking for more of a mellow vibe, visit the tasting room on a weekday. If you want the higher energy day club vi t the tasting room on the weekend.

g time Malibu local and sole owner of Glamifornia Style Lounge, Terah Tidy, is redefining the typical beauty salon experience. Her vision is refreshingly unique and gs an artistic energy to her retail space. What it mainly encapsulates is a combination of art, fashion, beauty, and wellness. Emphasis on those key elements is wha arates this beauty experience from the rest of the competition.

mifornia Style Lounge is not your ordinary beauty salon. Think of it as more of an art gallery and beauty salon fused together. When Terah set out to create this style nge, she saw something wrong with the typical salon experience. She thought the process of getting your hair done was becoming too mechanical and was missing stic culture that that goes hand in hand with beauty. So when she opened the style lounge back in December of 2015, she made sure that artistic celebration was a k of her business.

ecifically, Terah celebrates the collaboration of artists to produce something unique to her vision. This becomes evident when you step foot into the Style Lounge and the art displayed on the walls. The current artwork is beautiful photography that clearly was a calculated effort on the part of the photographer, set designer, make u st, fashion designer, and many more artists to create pieces that reflect the bohemian chic vibe of the Style Lounge. Terah says collaborations like this are the true s he Glamifornia Style Lounge. And just like other art galleries, the style lounge rotates the artwork periodically. Most recently the Lounge featured artwork from an ero nter who’s risqué pieces perfectly complemented the boho chic vibe.

p://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/IMG_4204.jpg)

ng with artwork, Terah puts as heavy emphasis on the lounge aspect of the Glamifornia Style Lounge. Terah has cultivated an environment where women can come socialize. The Lounge is always on top of the latest trends in fashion, beauty, and all things related and the conversations inside the lounge are always buzzing. Th nge also features a wellness bar so you can enjoy a healthy beverage while you are receiving style treatments or just chatting it up with the Glamifornia team. The gan of the Lounge stands true, “Come for the style, stay for the lounge.”

ourse, the Style Lounge offers all the services of a normal beauty salon and much more. What the Style Lounge does differently in terms of their beauty treatments is they cater to you and your defined style in hair, makeup, fashion, art, and wellness. Your personal style can be created by one of their master hair artists or you can e adventures in beauty with cuts, color, and style by interns and glam school grads. The choice is yours. The Lounge is also very aware that many people just do no e that much time for beauty treatments. They welcome anyone who only can stop in for 20, 30, or 45 minutes for a quick treatment. Just call for an appointment or wa nd give them a visit.

view our first spot, The Point Dume Nature Preserve, click here! (http://allthingsmalibu.com/best-places-to-watch-the-sunrisesunset-in-malibu-point-dume-nature-preserve/)

ENCINAL CANYON ROAD

p://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1121.png)

intersection of Encinal Canyon Road and Pacific Coast Highway is located on the far west end of Malibu. The road slithers its way up and through the canyon fairly ckly so great views from the road become apparent almost immediately. There are plenty of spots along the road to watch both the sunrise and sunset from out areas. As the road twist and turns, the views to the east (sunrise) and to the west (sunset) alternate visibility.

as just a mile up the road from where the sunrise video was taken. To get there, you drive just about two or three minutes up Encinal Canyon Road from PCH and pu r to the second dirt turnout location on the right. From here you can enjoy the sun come up over the ocean from inside your car (it might be cold out since its so early morning), from on top of your car like I did, or with some sort of seating that you bring yourself.

sunset time lapse was taken from just a thirty second drive from where Encinal Canyon Road meets PCH. When you first turn onto the road from PCH there is a lon turnout spot on the left side of the road. From here you are perched high enough up to watch the sun set right over the ocean. Again, I recommend that you watch fro de your car, on top of your car, or on some seating that you bring yourself.

se two spots are by no means the only two places to catch the sunrise or sunset from Encinal Canyon. There are plenty of pull over zones where you can stop for a ck second and enjoy the view. One place particularly great to watch either the sunrise or sunset is from Charmlee Wilderness Park (http://allthingsmalibu.com/see-an hiking/charmlee-wilderness-park-malibu/), located just a few miles up the road. A quick 20 minute hike from the parking lot leads you to the edge of the preserve whe can see breathtaking views of either sunrise or sunset.

tching Tip: Note that the official sunrise time is when the first part of the sun begins to come up from the horizon, not when the whole sun has risen. For the sunset, cial time is when the sun is completely below the horizon. These may seem like common sense but actually confuses more people than you would think. Make sur n accordingly!

BEST PLACES TO WATCH THE SUNRISE/SUNSET IN MALIBU | POINT DUME NATURE PRESERVE (HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/BEST-PLACES-TO-WATCHTHE-SUNRISESUNSET-IN-MALIBU-POINT-DUME-NATURE-PRESERVE/)

ibu offers some of the best views in the whole world to watch the magnificence of the sunrise and the sunset. With a little bit of searching you can find some really cial places to take in the skies in all of their glory.

thought it would be a fun idea to capture time lapse videos of what we think are some of the best spots around to watch the sunrise and sunset and share them with o ience.

ve decided to bring them to you one by one to make sure we don’t take anything away from one individual spot. First on our list is from our own neighborhood, the nt Dume Nature Preserve.

POINT DUME NATURE PRESERVE

Point Dume Nature Preserve is a small series of dirt trails ascending up to a cliff that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The Nature Preserve is the actual “Point” in Poin me. One side of the cliff faces the east where you can catch the sunrise and opposite of that you have the west facing side where you can catch the sunset. There are tiple places throughout the preserve to enjoy both the sunrise and sunset. From the peak of the cliff you can see in either direction.

favorite spot to catch the sun coming up is from a wooden balcony that hangs off the east facing side. From here you can see the sun rise up over the Pacific and ch it light up the coast from Malibu to Palos Verdes. Our sunrise time-lapse is filmed from this spot.

favorite spot to to watch the sun going down is from an overhanging rock that extends from the side of the west facing side of the cliff. From here you can see the su down over the ocean as well as views all the way down Malibu’s Coast. Our time lapse sunset was shot from the peak of the cliff for camera stability.

ou didn’t already know, one of the best outdoor activities in Malibu happens every full moon.

ce a month on the evening of the full moon, a group of adventurous hikers meet at Charmlee Wilderness Park at 5pm for a night hike under the glowing moon. (Meetin e will change after Daylights Saving on March 13)

loop hike around the park totals a distance of about 2 to 3 miles while hiking time can range from 2-3 hours depending on the trails and stops.

hike itself is not difficult at all. Most of the hike is level and the parts that do have incline or decline are easy to maneuver. If anything, the only tricky part is watchin r step once it gets dark, although the moon shines bright enough for this not to really be an issue. In fact, the hike leader recommends not to use flashlights.

armlee is very family friendly, good for the young ones as well as the older folks. All are welcome to join to the hike and there is no charge to participate. The only rge is the $4 parking fee that must be payed in cash. If you forget to bring cash, there is an area to park free on Encinal Canyon Road just outside the front gates of t k. From there it is less than a 5 minute walk to the beginning of the hike. (http://allthingsmalibu.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Screenshot6-01-25-21.14.39.png)

hike is led by Sally Garcia, a representative from the Santa Monica Mountain Recreation Conservation Authority.

y clearly has a lot of knowledge of Charmlee Wilderness Park and the general Santa Monica Mountain area. Every 15 to 20 minutes or so Sally ps the group to let everyone in the back to catch up. While doing so, she lets the kids (usually at the front of the group) answer some wildlife stions and follows those with some fun facts about Charmlee wildlife and the Santa Monica Mountains.

Malibu Pier also features one of Malibu's most popular places to eat, Malibu Farm (http://allthingsmalibu.com/malibuaurants/malibu-farm/). Malibu Farm has two locations on the Pier, one at the end (the cafe) and one at the base of the pier restaurant). Both serve delicious food, however feature different menus. Take your pick, you can't go wrong with either.

EAT AT ONE OF THE ICONIC MALIBU RESTAURANTS HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/WPONTENT/UPLOADS/2015/12/MALIBU-SEAFOODGN.JPG)

ou decided not to eat at the pier, Malibu other restaurants that are part of the fabric of the city. Some of se restaurants have been here for as long as people can remember, some are insanely popular, some both. Here are just three that we recommend you try out when you visit.

ibu Seafood (http://allthingsmalibu.com/malibu-restaurants/malibu-seafood/) - This seafood joint ated across from Dan Blocker Beach (http://allthingsmalibu.com/see-and-do-beaches/dan-blocker-statech-malibu/) has become a Pacific Coast Highway landmark for its unmistakable square sign featuring a e red lobster. adise Cove Beach Cafe (http://allthingsmalibu.com/malibu-restaurants/paradise-cove-beach-cafe/) - This restaurant sits right on the beach at Paradise Cove ach Club, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There you will find locals and tourists alike. The menu boosts quite a few ons to chose from, the portions are on the large size and if you want a recommendation go for the tacos. Perhaps the best part ut this restaurant is that you can be seated outside, directly on the sand. There aren't a lot of better sceneries to have a meal!

seen in 5 Great Breakfasts! (http://allthingsmalibu.com/5-great-breakfast-restaurants-in-malibu/)

A HIKE UP PUERCO CANYON | ALL THINGS MALIBU HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/A-HIKE-UP-PUERCO-CANYON-ALL-THINGSMALIBU/) PUERCO CANYON/CAMERON PRESERVE/COASTAL SLOPE TRAIL

ay we take you on a hike through the Cameron Nature Preserve off of Puerco Canyon Road—a popular trail for hikers, bikers, and equestrians. The Puerco Canyon fire roa ds you past several side roads and trails. Most notably, the ruins of an old ranch presumably consumed by a brush fire. (To my amazement there is little documentation of thi ch or its demise on the internet.) We hiked up the trail to an altitude of 1,835 feet—a distance of 7.5 miles up and down. Around each turn we were greeted by gorgeous view oint Dume and Coral Canyon. Great thing about this hike is that the great views are almost instant, so you can turn around for home satisfied if you don’t have the time. Rou took us about 3 hours with time spent hiking, enjoying the beautiful views, and exploring the interesting things along the way.

previously mentioned, there are many small trails that lead off of the Puerco Canyon Fire Road. One we found most interested was labeled with a newer-looking sign “Coastal Slope Trail”. It led through a large piece of flat land, on through the brush and across the mountain. Once we got back to the office, we decided it was worth me research—and there was a lot to be discovered.

Coastal Slope Trail has been a long term project to connect 15 public spaces throughout the Santa Monica Mountains from Point Mugu Lagoon to Topanga State P h a 70-mile-long trail. This particular stretch is a newer addition, conceived when James Cameron sold his 24 parcel area of land to the Mountains Recreation and nservation Authority for $12 million in 2014. Eventually, the MRCA hopes to introduce a overnight group camp ground to the area.

he peak of the hike we spotted an old structure off the fire road along a small trail. We made an interesting discovery of a small old building and a set of solar panels. electrical wires wrapped around iron posts and the door inside was bolted shut. We enlisted Ryan, ATM assistant operations manager, to do a little investigating in t ed out hole in the roof, to no avail. We are still completely clueless of what purpose this communications-looking building once served. Our descent took about 45 utes and we treated ourselves to breakfast at Ollo (New Coogies) as a reward for our busy morning.

MALIBU WINE SAFARI (HTTP://ALLTHINGSMALIBU.COM/MALIBU-WINE-SAFARI/)

Malibu Wine Safaris tured in the 12 of the Best Things to do in Malibu! (http://allthingsmalibu.com/12-of-the-best-things-to-do-in-malibu/)

ked in the beautiful hills of Malibu lives one of the best-kept secrets in all of Los Angeles County. Located on a 1,000 plus acre vineyard and ranch property, the Mal e Safari provides a unique experience distinct from any other wine tasting venue.

ibu Wine Safaris takes you on a ride throughout the property on their custom designed, stadium seated vehicles to enjoy the magnificent scenery, interact with their exotic mals, and of course enjoy their wine which is made from grapes from local vineyards. Some of the animals you can expect to see are water buffalo, bison, zebras, camels, acas, Stanley the giraffe, and many more.
