ThinkForward Finance Manager Job Description 2 years full time fixed term contract (with strong likelihood of extension). Part time applicants will be considered. Salary: £39-46,000 per annum (more for an exceptional candidate) Start Date: Immediate Deadline for applications: 25 October 2016

Overview of the Organisation ThinkForward runs a breakthrough programme which intervenes early to ensure that young people make a successful transition from school to work. ThinkForward provides young people who are at risk in their transition from school to work with support for 5 years, from age 13 to 18. They access information, guidance and high quality one-to-one coaching, group interventions and workplace experiences. ThinkForward recently completed one of the UK’s first successful Social Impact Bonds and has been instrumental in developing the social investment market; we anticipate future opportunities in emerging charity funding mechanisms. It has recently become an independent charity, after being founded and incubated by Impetus-Private Equity Foundation. We have a growing central team to support our Coaching staff, and this role will be central to our operational effectiveness.

Overview and purpose of the role This broad based role requires a bright, energetic and driven leader who can help make ThinkForward a great proposition for donors and employees alike. The Finance Manager will be responsible for ensuring financial stability, managing risks and developing our organizational capability. The role will include:    

Shaping ThinkForward’s future by providing challenge to ThinkForward’s team leaders, ensuring that organisational strategy is financially sound and risks are monitored and managed Communicating as a business partner to manage and meet the expectations of funders, boards and other stakeholders Ensuring ThinkForward is compliant with relevant laws and regulations, with hands on responsibility for financial processing, budgeting and management accounting Managing the Office Coordinator to ensure ThinkForward is an appealing place to work

Key responsibilities Strategy and leadership:  Develop budget and accounting records, financial modelling, cash flow analysis etc.  Provide financial input into the business strategy and investment processes  Review reports and analyse projections of income against actual figures and suggest methods of improving the planning process  Work closely with all team leaders to support best practice and target setting  Set up of new legal entities as required Annual/Year end:  Prepare budgets and forecasts, and monitor performance against budget throughout the year.  Perform year end processes, including filing of the appropriate year end returns, and statutory accounts in line with UK GAAP and SORP



Prepare supporting information and be the lead contact for auditors to ensure audit is completed smoothly and to timetable

Monthly:  Maintain control environment and oversee Office Coordinator to complete month end reconciliations: bank, credit card, fundraising and online giving receipts etc.  Month end processes (accruals, prepayments, accrued income, salaries, trial balance)  Develop our control procedures e.g. Authority limits, signatories; oversee the Office Manager in weekly and monthly processes  Cash management and cash-flow forecasting  Prepare management accounts and explain significant variances. Prepare Board and Committee papers and manage the Finance and Audit Committee  Monitor outstanding commitments and free reserves  Ensure that there is effective processing of financial transactions, including monthly payroll, in conjunction with the Office Coordinator Tax duties:  Ensure the accurate and timely filing of VAT and other returns to HMRC  Maintain relationships with tax and other advisers  Work with advisors to prepare, file and settle applicable year-end tax returns Team support/other duties:  Line Management of the Office Coordinator whose role also covers facility and supply management, HR processes and IT support  Supplier management and negotiations as appropriate  Respond to information requests from and due diligence by donors. Assist with funding applications and donor reporting Person specification ThinkForward operates a staff competency framework to inform our recruitment and performance management of staff. Partner with, persuade and influence senior managers and Board of Trustees Experienced project manager, able to meet multiple, often tight deadlines Enthusiastic about working adaptably in a fast-changing environment Provide financial leadership and strategic thinking as well as execution Enthusiastic about working in a close-knit team with strong collaborative skills Results driven; assertive and tenacious Methodical with excellent attention to detail Dedicated, trustworthy; demonstrates empathy with ThinkForward’s objectives Curious and open to innovative finance concepts; resourceful Qualified (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong financial acumen and thorough knowledge of budgetary control Experience and confidence to monitor, review and influence the spending of budget holders at all levels Thorough knowledge of appropriate financial controls and procedures Budgeting and forecasting experience; ability to identify issues and problems early Advanced Excel skills and (preferably) experience of using SAGE
