But no report leaves cops unable to return property if they find it. Toronto Police officers are using social media to overcome this dilemma and reunite victims of theft with their GPSs, laptops, power tools and other items. “This is just one of the many things being thought of when it come to using social media as an investigative tool,” Toronto Police Const. Scott Mills said Sunday. Officers recently recovered vast amounts of stolen goods in separate investigations across the city and are using Youtube and Facebook to reunite people with their possessions. “We’ve got everything from electronics to jewelry to board games,” Det.-Const. Jessy Kapitany said of the property she and her fellow 55 Division officers have found. Some of the items were stolen as far back as five years ago. It was a drug investigation that led to the discovery of the missing goods, Kapitany said. About 250 stolen items were found in several commercial properties, allegedly accepted in lieu of cash by suspected drug dealers. Drug users will steal anything they can get their hands on and quickly sell it to get a fix. Officers from 54 and 14 Divisions have also recently recovered a large quantity of stolen property, much of it taken in smash-and grabs in underground parking garages in Flemingdon Park and the Dundas-Spadina.
